Well informative videos usually get less views. It’s similar to how healthier foods usually don’t taste as good. In order to get views, you need to bite some bullets
You should make more like this. These tips are extremely helpful to a lot of people. Personally I know about most of these, but I still had fun watching them
Been a year since I first started Hollow Knight I got it on Christmas 2021, but also got Sekiro Shadows Die Twice then Dark Souls after. So they took up my time instead of hollow knight. Eventually after seeing a meme about nightmare grimm on Reddit, I decided to play it again I remember exactly how some days went. Especially against bosses like Grimm. I remember watching this video when exploring Greenpath and was having a blast. Few months after that, I radiant every boss. This video really helped me get this far, so thank you so much
So I know the game as been out a while but I just started playing last week and I’m going for the platinum PlayStation trophy. It’s videos like this that have helped me get everything done up to the pantheons so quickly. Great content, this video deserves more love than it got
I like how you touch on the nail arts, especially cyclone slash. I am of the opinion, along with pretty much everyone else, that nail arts, particularly the cyclone slash, are pretty useless in the open world and even most bosses. I’ve discovered recently however, against the pantheons with all four bindings, the nail arts are your BEST tools. Without them, I NEVER would’ve beaten the Collector, Markoth, Oblobbobles (no idea how to spell those things), or even Grey Prince Zote. I have never realized how useful they really are when you’re stripped to practically nothing, and while I haven’t beaten the Pantheon of Hallownest yet, they will certainly be key to defeating the most annoyingly difficult bosses.
Agreed Nail Arts and especially cyclone slash are pretty much mandatory for all bindings. In the open world I do sometimes use cyclone slash against the hopper enemies in kingdoms edge, but yeah it's strengths don't shine in normal gameplay.
Update: I’ve been able to use these tips in beating the fifth pantheon, then the first four pantheons with all bindings, and I’m still aiming to improve (going for radiant hall of gods, already have gotten all ascended a while ago)! Amazing video :)
I just beat P5 for the first time yesterday! I play on PS4 and got the platinum trophy for this game finally. Many of these tips allowed me to step up my game. Thanks so much! I would love to hear your thoughts on something like "Charms that only advanced players realize are great." For example: I had always overlooked Steady Body. Once I practiced with steady body I realized that it actually allowed me to more consistently capitalize on other amazing charms like Quick Slash. In this example quick slash often increases hits per damage window by allowing you to get additional hits in (also generating more soul).. Steady Body took this increase and increased it further. I noticed that often quick slash increased hits per damage window by one or two hits. usually about 33 to 50 percent. Steady Body increased this often times by an additional hit AND avoided the annoying damage taken from knock back sometimes. Removing knock back really helped me in fights where you spend more time in the air like with the radiance.
I'm glad my video helped you out. For the mean time I'm not planning on making more videos, but I do have ideas on making a charms video and a detailed guide on how to beat p5 all bindings. These probably won't be made till mid - late 2022.
FYI, you don't have to pogo Failed Champion. If you stagger him in the middle, it's easy to get *behind* him and reset the stagger timer. If you have nail extensions, you will want to up slash. If you're fast, you can do 3 heals, 3 dream nails, or some combination. If you're just learning this, try just once or twice. If he staggers against the wall, pogo him, get on the wall, and slide down. You can safely up slash to reset the timer. If you get the glitch where he staggers above the ground, you can still do this trick.
Very impressive considering this is your first video and this is a small channel. I’m gonna assume you have previous video-making experience lol but the editing and pacing of the videos is perfect. good job
Stumbled upon this video accidentally twice, once half a year ago not knowing much about HK, and today for the second time, after 100%-ing the game (just starting pantheons now). Quick casting stuck with me all that time ago and helped with Hornet 2 and Grimm. Thanks
What you could do if using the quick cast is swap the buttons for quick cast and focus. I don't know if it this also applies to keyboard controls but spamming spells was so much easier to do on a controller after making this simple change.
Having spells on a shoulder button makes it possible to use your nail and jump while doing spells. Having quick cast on "A" would mean you would need to hop your thumb over, which could make nail > spell > nail harder
When you start to realize that HK has a hidden skill ceiling it gets really interesting, like I started to appreciate Nailmasters Glory and Steady body.
True, I’m to the point where I’m trying to learn to better utilize nail + spell combos. I’d say (in my opinion at least) I’m already pretty adept and spacing and dodging. Have barely started messing with nail arts, man the timing on the cyclone slash is tricky, but if you pull it off it’s so rewarding. When I started getting comfortable after being able to clear the base game fairly easily, the pantheons threw me for a loop lol. Good reminder there’s always more to learn.
Wow Great Video, I just try to use all things and not just the normal nail like in my first 112% playtrough, really helped me out, also I will have to learn using the quick cast button…
small curiosity about using the dream nail in the part about the false knight or failed champion is that you can continue using it even after the boss is already dead
Me personally when I fight watcher knights I just pogo at the edge of their horse so it triggers them to do a double slash 3 times and then they roll to get that extra damage in
I feel like HK on the Xbox doesn’t take my inputs as accurately as it should be. Even with cable the controller doesn’t seem to deliver enough precision to match the game. Am I the only one? Or has anyone else experienced the same?
I haven't played the Xbox version, but you're issue may be with whatever display you're playing on. If you're playing on a TV, make sure you're running "Game Mode", it can usually be found in the TV settings. If you have you're Xbox connected to some other device (like a receiver) then that external device is connected to your TV's HDMI port, instead try connecting the Xbox directly to the TV's HDMI port. A lot of receivers and other devices will add processing to the image which also can add lag. Make sure you're playing natively on the console and not streaming it, as it can cause input lag.
I use a Switch Pro Controller with the default controls. I did all of the 112% and achievements on the Nintendo Switch version of Hollow Knight years ago. But now I use the same controller but on PC. Most 2D platformers I would use the D-pad, but I found that the smoothness on a control stick makes Pogo-ing and moving very natural for me specifically with Hollow Knight. I also like the Switch Pro Controllers Digital Triggers for quick dash inputs instead of using a controller with slower analog inputs
You have a good point, I would have to test it out in Hollow Knight sometime. Though using quick cast would still help for grounded spells, and it would be obtuse to use the focus button for spells on the ground, and quick cast for spells in the air only.
great tuturial, but is p5 difficult? Because is my final achivement to platinum, I can beat pure vessel consistently but I can't do p1 with charmless binding and I want the lifeblood, any tips on completing pantheons with bidings
P5 is pretty difficult for your first time beating it. If you have access to an ok PC, you can practice Hollow Knight on PC with a bindings mod which lets you use any bindings you want in the hall of gods. If you don't have a way to practice on PC, just try to do 1 binding at a time. If you're struggling with the charmless binding, I am assuming that is because you are probably always playing with a charm like sharp shadow or steady body, which changes your core movement. You need to get used to beating bosses without those charms.
@@gaghhuh2943 When you press dash, you release the nail button pretty much immediately. For a split second both buttons will be presssed, but no longer then that. Below I will try to illistrate, the 2nd row is to illistrate the difference in time when pressing and releasing buttons Hold Y --> Press ZR --> Release Y
However the quick cast one is wrong. It barely changes anything and when there are like 12 buttons used without QC it's already annoying and using 13 buttons is a nightmare. Also I don't see replies in my notifs
Glad you enjoyed the video even if you have already done everything in HK. I play on controller so using quick cast (my R button) wasn't too hard to get used to, but I could see how it could be difficult to implement for keyboard controls. Quick Cast is a little bit faster even if by just a little bit, but anytime time on my inputs is worth it to me. Descending Dark gives 0.4 seconds of invincibility without stalwart shell. It seems like a very small amount of time on paper, but in practice it's plenty long enough to dodge enemy attacks and patterns. That in combination with descending darks coming out just a little faster with quick cast has saved me so many times with Abs Rad's light attacks, Grey Prince Zote's random patterns, etc.
I forgot about that when I was making this video. I wasn't focusing on charms too much, just the movement and combat fundamentals, but if I ever do a charms video in the future, I will be sure to include that.
