Damn. What's funny is that I knew that about velcro, and still got misled by the clue enough to think it might have been Kevlar (nylon, dacron, rayon, etc would have come out in the 30s). Never even thought about velcro. Well done jeopardy, got me again.
The contest who was in second going into Final Jeopardy should’ve wagered only $2000, on the assumption the returning champion would wager enough to double second place plus one, and second place could only win if the incumbent got it wrong. Betting it all was a weird miscalculation.
I've noticed many contestants don't really study how to wager correctly. There is a youtube channel called The Final Wager where he covers proper wagering
@@robertpsotka3525 No, that'll only work if you're correct about the leader's strategy. What if the leader also wages a low number, or even $0? If you get the answer right and the leader is wrong, you'll still not overtake them. You have to at the very least wager the difference between you and the leader, plus one dollar. In this case, $4801. The more you bet, the better, in case the leader is right, but has bet defensively. In this case, I think the best wager would have been $7999. If she gets the answer right, she'll win if the leader is wrong, or if they wagered less than $3199. If she's wrong, she's guaranteed to keep second place.
Got it, partially because of a Jeopardy clue from 20+ years ago that has stayed with me (about how the word velcro comes from a mashup of velour and crochet).
You pick up knowledge from the stupidest places. I knew Velcro had to be it because I remembered Letterman’s salute to Velcro on Late Night, and they had a company rep there who said it was invented around that time.
I called my local station affiliate, WJLA in DC, and they get the episodes a few days early. They confirmed that Ken Jennings will be taking over the show starting Monday but could not confirm how many episodes he would host. So yes, Ken will return next week.
😆 - The People at WJLA are intentionally giving you false information as they don't have time for adults behaving like little school children 🙄 - " Is Ken hosting next week ! ! " - Absolutely 💯 Pathetic.
Look at yesterday’s comments under Final Jeopardy. Retro & Jokey say the same thing in the comment section day after day. I guess they believe that if they write it over & over it will come true. They are Ken Jennings fanboys. That doesn’t make it correct.
I watch these Final Jeopardy things on my phone and home computer. I always *SMASH* that Like button, and finally subbed tonight thanks to Mayim's funny plea at the end of this one. Very clever, Jeopardy! (Oh, and I didn't get Velcro either - should have known it though.)
Pantyhose were damn useful to US G.I.s in WWII Europe. Local ladies wanted it, the G.I.s were issued it. Along with chocolate and cigarettes. However they came to an understanding, ain't none of our business. But it basically worked out.
Just sad how many peoples comments have the correct response in them. I also get sick every time the contestants are wrong and I have to hear Mayim…Unfortunately that is not correct. Ken only please!
Did anybody else see all the children’s fan mail sent to Ken? It is spreading all over Twitter right now. Even they have the taste to want him to become the host.
The word 'high' in high fashion indicated that it was used in fashion but not high fashion. Oddly worded question because the answer was so easy. They all over thought the question.
That was not a well written question. Velcro has tons of uses, and is not generally associated with aerospace (which is a vague term in and of itself). Velcro is still used plenty in shoes for children, so that seems like a fashion application to me.
I guessed velcro correctly because I remember reading an article years ago that it was used to hold rocket parts together because of its superior reliability! But I get your point about that not being common knowledge.
The man in the middle actually would’ve won if the returning champ bet everything but that was an understandable call on her part she had to bet over 6,000 bucks. Bottom line I hope the Mets win it all this time, they got to. And they will be World Series 2022 champs this year…! I hope.
Oh, I got it right! Velcro was the first thing that came to mind. Kept trying to talk myself out of it but couldn't think of anything else. Does this mean I'm the new Jeopardy champion since they all got it wrong??? :)
May be an unpopular opinion but I think Mayim has gotten better. I still would prefer Ken to do the hosting, but I don’t find her unwatchable like I used to. She seems more comfortable in the role.
I personally think she has regressed. I feel like if she truly got better, she would have developed a rhythm, cut down on the forced humor between the clues, prepared enough to be less reliant on the cards and teleprompters, and figured out insightful things to say during the contestant interviews. Mike Richards actually was much better than her as a host but not a good person or professional worker.
Retro Radio Fan & Jokey might be the loudest in the room but most people prefer Mayim. Look at yesterdays comment section for Final Jeopardy. They both write the same comment day after day. Fanboys.
Respectfully, if Mayim was more popular, her episodes would be getting more viewers. I read the article in The Sun today that reported that Ken was receiving double the viewership, backed up by Nielsen figures. I agree that the commenters here can be annoying, but the numbers support that Ken is massively more popular among the fanbase.
This is just an echo chamber for Ken fan boys. Come on be honest. Mayim was on the Kelly Clarkson show today and guess what? Talking about Jeopardy she got MASSIVE applause from the audience. Unsolicited. So your statement that Kennings has more support is just another untruth. You can go into those polls & vote 1,2,3 times. I know because I went back in & sure enough one person could vote 50 times. Those polls are worthless.
@@susansmith4112 I hate to be the one to tell you this, but midday and late night shows have electric signs and cue card people that hold directions for how the audience should react to certain things.

I wondered what they are teaching in social studies these days. The clue said Axis capital. The sportscaster said Berlin. Mattea said Rome. The only Axis capital left was Tokyo, but the other girl didn’t ring in!
Was kinda hoping the front runner would also have bet stupidly big, and the guy whose answer was “I’m going to lose” would have actually won.

In Carbon Creek, to be exact.
