Fun fact: *Jiangdong* region means "east of Yangtze"; historically, it's also called Jiangzuo "left of Yangtze", because in ancient China south is up. It's also called Jiangbiao (exterior of Yangtze), as the central plains are assumed to be centre of civilization, anything south of the Yangtze is considered exterior. The region became particularly populated and prosperous during the late Han dynasty, and China's economic centre is shifting towards Jiangdong even till today. (especially so in the last decades)

The cherry blossoms were sprinkling pink petals from their trees out into farmlands as the people of China were currently in a very tumultuous time period as the warlords who had fought the Yellow Turbans now vied for power in all of China and thus the casualties in such battles could only be described as staggering. But not everyone knew all of that in the lands of China, nay, rather there was one individual who had set out far from his home in search of the men in Yellow who attacked his home on the coast. Sin Sun-Ki was not dressed in his normal guard armor as he once had when the Yellow men had attacked, rather he was wearing chainmail over his simple hunting clothes, which were grey with some red highlights on the sleeve. His head was covered in a simple headwrap, almost like a do-rag, and his only weapons he carried was his Korean Recurve with several arrows, including some of the deadly ones that could pierce men, and a simple sword that was strapped to his side next to the quiver of arrows. Currently, he was on a Korean boat, a panokseon, which was a large Korean boat used mainly for naval warfare with many weapons but currently had him and some trade on it instead. The Three Kingdoms of Korea had been in relative peace so many things meant for war were being used for anything else than war. The boat rocked gently beneath him as it pushed its way by oar upstream through the lands of China, looking for a friendly port down this south as Sin Sun-Ki looked for a town to disembark and found out who had attacked him and see if he could defeat them to prevent more Koreans from being attacked. He had managed to learn some Chinese before he came, though he was not a perfectionist on it, and so he was hoping to keep talk terse and short. The sooner he can defeat these men in yellow, the sooner he can go back to his home in time hopefully for the next harvest. And then there was a call and he was awoken from his thoughts, standing on the deck in his armor and clothing, and he looked up to see a flourishing town on the bank of the river. Jiangling, recently having been taken by the Tiger of Jiandong and his army. It had been besieged and there had been some damage but while Sin Sun-Ki got closer with his ship, the damage had been repaired it seems. The large ship soon came sliding into the port on the side of the town as Sin Sun-Ki quickly disembarked with himself and a pack of supplies while trying to listen and catch whatever he heard being spoken around him as best as he could given his limited Chinese. He heard a lot of things: trade agreements, battles in far away places, talks of politics and who would be Emperor, talks of bandit attacks or of raids on caravans. Most of it was not his main focus or concern but rather was just everyday stuff he figured for the people to speak about when he then heard one snippet. “The Yellow Turban Rebellion have formed a new capital for their seat of power. I hope the Tiger can deal with the rabble.” Yellow Turban Rebellion? Sounds like those who might’ve attacked his place but he needed more information before he could definitively begin his quest. And so what better place than to go to a nearby inn and settle down for the day as having travelled many days over seas can create a needed desire for flat land beneath ones feet. He slowly opened an inns door as he rented himself a room upstairs before heading up. No one was currently within the inn but that was alright for him since he would prefer to be alone for the moment as he then settled down in his room and began to look over his weapons. He slowly unstrung his bow and watched as he slowly allowed it back into its C-shape as he put the string around it like he always did while he then began to clean and sharpen his sword. The day those men in yellow attacked had cause quite a stir in his town and he had vowed to himself to defeat whomever had sent them no matter the cost.

I just got this game (1/30/2022) and I just amazed with how efficiently youre moving the camera and focusing on units, etc. I'll be watching through this series you made literally because I have no idea what I'm doing and the names are hard to rememeber because I only speak English
This game looks absolutely amazing. I can’t wait until I can get my PC and play. Your gameplay is saving me while I wait lol and I’m learning a lot. Keep up the work man, you’ve earned a sub!
I'm literally on the edge of my seat waiting for this game to come out. Anyway just a few things to point out. 1. Lu Fan served under Sun Quan historically so I'm 95% sure he is not a spy, 2. Lu Su historically was the 2nd commander in chief of the Wu military forces after Zhou Yu's death so please do not release him and 3. From the little I've learned over the years with pronunciation of the names Sun Ce ( Soon Suh) Sun Quan ( Soon Ch-wan) and Sun Ren you got correct, also someone below commented it's Liu Biao ( Li-ew Bee-yao). Anyway nice job as always.
Probably too late, but for all that is good in the world, do NOT get rid of Lu Su. He's an extremely talented officer and served the Sun family for generations.
Hurrah for a new series of total war let's plays, have a congratulatory thumbs up good sir! Same faction I'm going to start out with as well, will be interesting to see how the campaigns will differ.
Just to give a few tips on how I would perceive mandarin pronunciation. Liu Bei would be pronounced similar to "Lee-ew Bae". Lu Bu would be pronounced like "Lee Boo" or "Lure-Bu" minus the "re". Cao Cao would be more like a quick but almost silent "ch" sound when pronouncing the Cs. Yuan Shao would be pronounced like "You-and Shao". Guan Yu would be pronounced as "Goo-un You" with the "un" from 'understand'. Zhang-Fei would be pronounced like young are saying Junk but replace the k with a g. Liu Biao would be pronounced like "Lee-ew Bee-ow". Sun Ce would be pronounced like "Soon cher" from the word Archer and again with the quick and almost silent "ch" sound and minus the 'r'. Sun Quan would be pronounced like "Soon Choo-and" minus the 'd'. Huang Shao or any named character with Huang as their name would sound like "Who-ung" with the "un" from Understand. This is what I know so far. Feel free for anyone to correct me if I got something wrong. A lot of these names may sound different based on Chinese dialects.
Got pretty close myself as a Finn. So Portuguese, German and Finnish do all just fine but English speakers have problems? :D To be honest, English is a bit of a mess as a language.
wait, now that ive killed hundreds of you on my own, let me get on my horse a bit to charge you, my horse that somehow didn't move an inch of where i left it" total war logic xDDDD, love it
The moment Dong's retreat to Chang'an, the coalitions army divided into two faction, Yuan Shao and Yuan Shu. Cao Cao, Zhang Miao, Liu Biao, etc was under Yuan Shao Sun Jian, Gongsun Zan, Lu Bu (after 194), etc was under Yuan Shu
You asked if you can see which formations a Strategist unlocks. Near the top right of their character panel are three buttons. The leftmost button opens a detailed effects panel that should show every impact a character has on the army or campaign.
For all those whining about incorrect pronunciation of character names... Mandarin is totally different to middle Chinese, yet alone ancient Chinese. Just compare Cao Cao or Sun Ce in Mandarin to Cantonese (try Baidu translate) - totally different. It's like if Italians complained about English not pronouncing Caesar as "che-sa-re", according to modern Italian pronunciation, which is different to the original Latin anyway.
17:28 a thing i see a lot is people not using the demand surrender option, cause in jianling they tend to surrender(at least for me) so pls try using that option first to avoid uneccesary death and loss.
Eventhough I suppose like in history books, when the generals asking for a duel, no one will just randomly attack their soldiers, just for respect. Anyway, is funny to just attack them randomly while the duel is going on xD
Annals of the Sun Clan, Concerning the General Who Destroys Barbarians, by Court Historian Ban Qian Chapter 1: As the Administrator of Changsha Sun Jian was a man who tolerated no rebels against the dynasty which he held the greatest loyalty to, the Han. With swift strikes and unrelenting ferocity, Sun Jian continued the work which the Guandong Coalition neglected by vanquishing the lackeys of Dong Zhuo in the Southlands. Many of these minor villains failed to release that it was not the strength of a man, but that of a tiger, that they were contend with. Repeated pleas to the usurper, ruling from his tyrannical throne in Changan, went unheard. Though the evil plaguing the Emperor had little to fear, he had already experienced the might of Sun Jian. "Better the rubes of the South than the heroes of the North!", he would exclaim before continuing his ways, relieved that the warlord was so distant from his lands. However, Sun Jian, styled Wentai, knew that a tiger must crouch before leaping upon its prey. "Tolerate not the impetuousness of a gluttonous oaf, but follow my sword with your own into his gut! May his entrails be a gift to Emperor Xian no later than he will come of age." It is with that prudent spirit that he remained at his post, dreaming for the day that he would liberate the Han from Dong Zhuo's ways, and forgiving those that had been forced to cooperate with him. Intrigues do not only haunt those that plan them, however. To the north, the presumed 'Pacifist Lord' continues correspondence with Yuan Shao. "I know that Sun Jian has the Imperial Seal," Yuan Shao, styled Benchu, wrote. "Won't you honor your relation to the Imperial Line and take it from him? His intentions can not be any better than Dong Zhuo's!" The seeds of evil find fertile ground when watered with pride. So it has been before, and so shall it be again, from the meager farm of a peasant to great and lofty courts. It would only be another occasion when the Prefect of Changsha would have to suffer the plots of rivals. But a tiger does not deal in such things, and our lord Sun Jian made even peers of his day question whether he was truly a man, or a noble beast charmed to resemble one...
Will be interesting how people view generals/advisors. As a person who knows three kingdoms quite a bit. Knowing historically who will be with which faction, may shift your decision making. i.e. I would never have thought Lu Fan to be a spy and Lu Su was quite a figurehead in the Wu Kingdom under Sun Quan.

Try a Hannibal tactic like the one Hannibal used at the battle of cannae. You lead enemy forces into a U shape and keep dropping your troops back, the cavalry come up the sides with mercenaries and encircle the enemy then finish.
That's pretty much the same tactic the Greeks used against the Persians at Marathon, long before Cannae. Weaken center and let it bend back while placing the power on the flanks, ready to crash in on them once lured into the trap.
Damn this game looks so epic! Sun Jian and Wu has always been my favorites in Dynasty warriors (Sun ce being my absolute favorite character) This makes me really want to play this game.
Because I am so interested in the recent shogun 2 campaign.. this will help fill the need to watch! It’s kinda hilarious to me, shogun 2 generals are paper and in this.. generals don’t even need an army lol
While the campaign map looks innovative and new mechanics make this total war different to previous ones and make it for more compelling game play i am still skeptical about fights. So far the units seem to blob up like in rome 2 and warhammer ( 24:44 ) also units just swing randomly in the air and a model thats at the back line dies randomly lol and it still lacks the intensity and realism of fights in shogun 2, the units pathing seems to be a little off too, bows have incredible range which might cause people to simply spam them as their accuracy is rather good too. Although i like how now when you spread the unit it shows the entire box instead of each individual model and whats up with the blue projectiles? Is it possible to turn it off kinda like in warhammer 2?
"+10 satisfaction from the concubine..." Sounds legit to me :D Also, the UI in this game is an actual masterpiece. I'd play it only for that, even if the rest sucks. Oo
I was like 'testudo' eveyrtime you were saying turtle. love the romans and love rome 1/2 total war. then I realised I cant really correct you on that though :-P "When in rome, do as the romans" when in 3 kingdoms though I guess do as the chinse do. ha ha carry on..... :-P
Your video is exellent Lionheart. Maybe you can improve your experience playing TTW: 3 Kingdoms by reading the book, that's help you alot. Very well done 💗
I think you should only be using the shield formations when you are defending against ranged units not attacking a base as the towers have infinite ammo
Thank God it looks like they balanced duels. The whole army breaking from the generals death in a duel is a little ridiculous. A general shouldn’t be a win token or else Lu Bu would never lose a battle. Looks amazing definitely picking this one up.
I've been playing this game for decades. I remember when it was called Romance of the 3 kingdoms on sega I think. Dynasty Warriors was a good spin off of this but nothing beats this game. Your series will determine if Im going to drop $50+ on this game or not. I most likely will
Considering that many of the warlords descended from important families (Sun Jian from Sun Tzu, Kong Rong from Confucius as examples) it is surprising that as far as I'm aware only Cao Cao quotes the report of them. I wonder why.
So hyped for this game, sadly my Pc won't be able to run it, so im stuck with Let's Plays like yours for the next half year, wich isn't such a bad trade. Keep thos 3K campaigns coming.
might want to switch the archers in Sun Jian's retinue over to axe infantry when possible, seeing as you have a strategist in that army and give the strategist another unit of archers so you can eventually have 4 archers and 2 units of trebuchets under him.

Probably too late, but for all that is good in the world, do NOT get rid of Lu Su. He's an extremely talented officer and served the Sun family for generations.
OMG dude you don't attack while 2 generals are dueling lol. That is the unspoken rule of chilvary during these warring periods. =))
I remember that I heard he may be the descendant of sun tsz who wrote the art of war
5:46 +10 satisfaction on a concubine... I see what you did there CA!
;)
Shame the satisfaction is totally wasted on the faction leader, but the stat boost is good anyway
Hurrah for a new series of total war let's plays, have a congratulatory thumbs up good sir! Same faction I'm going to start out with as well, will be interesting to see how the campaigns will differ.
Huang Gai should definitely have a unique model
The tigers of jiandong are on the march let all those before him fall beneath his claws and teeth
I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING SO LONG FOR A THREE KINGDOMS SERIES! THANK YOU FOR THIS!
12:27 bug, says Huang Gai has been defeated but hes our general
It's crazy all of the characters for those trees like resolve are just regular things , wood , fire, water etc
I think they are the 5 elements and the traits are associated with them.
Interesting, myself as a portuguese native speaker, these chinese phonemes seems easy to say
Omg who cares. He doesn't speak mandarin.
@@megawave8759 German here, I basically used the correct pronuciation instinctively 😅
Got pretty close myself as a Finn.
So Portuguese, German and Finnish do all just fine but English speakers have problems? :D To be honest, English is a bit of a mess as a language.
Cao Cao is more closely pronounced “Sao-Sao” in English.
wait, now that ive killed hundreds of you on my own, let me get on my horse a bit to charge you, my horse that somehow didn't move an inch of where i left it" total war logic xDDDD, love it
0786RICARDO for china war horse. They covered their eyes, so those horses do not fear, they trained to obey orders and stand still.
@@jimmyluu89 horses are horses. I'll be good to see that happening in real life
The moment Dong's retreat to Chang'an, the coalitions army divided into two faction, Yuan Shao and Yuan Shu.
Cao Cao, Zhang Miao, Liu Biao, etc was under Yuan Shao
Sun Jian, Gongsun Zan, Lu Bu (after 194), etc was under Yuan Shu
Recent Lord: Liu Biao.
Lionheart: “Spy. Spy!” 😂😂😂
One of my 3rd favourite total wars
You asked if you can see which formations a Strategist unlocks. Near the top right of their character panel are three buttons. The leftmost button opens a detailed effects panel that should show every impact a character has on the army or campaign.
Then I watch a few more seconds of the video and you figured it out. I'm a dufus lol.
@@JessicaAriadne no worries thanks all the same! :)
Lu Su was Grand Commander of Wu after Zhou Yu, Lu Fan was one of Sun Ce best friends. Definitely loyal.
I hear the Co-General is a pretty well-Huang Gai
I'm so jacked for this I'm actually making a comment. Hour long episodes all the time.
Jesus i just love thoses new intros and the one for this TW is just too good xD
Could you do some slow zoom in on the piles of corpses that fell in battle? That would be sooo cool.
Trivia : Sun Jian is direct descendant of Sun Tzu, writer of Art of War.
Shang Xiang or Sun Ren for this game is simply amazing!
Your pronunciations are mostly on point, well done. Looks you were well prepared.
17:28 a thing i see a lot is people not using the demand surrender option, cause in jianling they tend to surrender(at least for me) so pls try using that option first to avoid uneccesary death and loss.
bro ive never actually just watched them fight ;earned alot of this thank you
Great start man, not sure who I will be starting with myself
I give you advice: you can use your archers to burn the towers :)
Lionheart after losing half of his troops: "At least I got the lumber camp!😀"
You don't need to dismount if the enemy spears aren't facing you and braced. I didn't realize how much you could game diplomacy. That's sick!
Pretty sure spears still do more damage to horses in combat.
"Liu Biao" is pronounced as (phonetically) "Li-ew Bee-yao". Hope this helps!
Eventhough I suppose like in history books, when the generals asking for a duel, no one will just randomly attack their soldiers, just for respect. Anyway, is funny to just attack them randomly while the duel is going on xD
So much new great things on this game! I LOVE IT !
Annals of the Sun Clan, Concerning the General Who Destroys Barbarians, by Court Historian Ban Qian
Chapter 1: As the Administrator of Changsha
Sun Jian was a man who tolerated no rebels against the dynasty which he held the greatest loyalty to, the Han.
His intentions can not be any better than Dong Zhuo's!"
The seeds of evil find fertile ground when watered with pride.
I think this game is the one I’m most excited about. Already got my preorder :)
Such a great game I need it ! I study military history but I'm new to Total war, cant believe I've never played it before! So I'm learning from you lool Great vid
39:30 "This has been the worst trade deal in the history of trade deals, maybe ever"
I just finally got Warhammer II recently after not playing a TW game since Napoleon and I am addicted to it but seeing these videos I think I am going to have to grab this one as well.
Its 'an awesome game dude.If you like warhammer, you are gonna love this one.

way to pull a Jon Snow in your first battle with Sun Jian lol.
His name is Jon
always love your total war videos campaign
The Han Army looks like angry red ants scurrying about when you really zoom out.
I just watched the tiger play through, I immediately recognized the starting supporting general. Long live the impeccable Huang Gai
Finally!! Love your series man!
Keep the content goooooin
Lol Lu Su disregard diplomacy is really funny, he is known for the most diplomatic person around Wu.
He is the guy that has to serve as the mediator between Zhuge Liang and Zhou Yu, knowing that the latter is plotting to kill Kongming
Your attempts at pronouncing Mandarin names is very pleasing :P
Try a Hannibal tactic like the one Hannibal used at the battle of cannae. You lead enemy forces into a U shape and keep dropping your troops back, the cavalry come up the sides with mercenaries and encircle the enemy then finish.
That's pretty much the same tactic the Greeks used against the Persians at Marathon, long before Cannae.
Weaken center and let it bend back while placing the power on the flanks, ready to crash in on them once lured into the trap.
the battle is quite historical accurate. in older time it's very common that the general always duel before the actual battle
Damn this game looks so epic!
Sun Jian and Wu has always been my favorites in Dynasty warriors (Sun ce being my absolute favorite character)
This makes me really want to play this game.
"+10 satisfaction from the concubine..."
Sounds legit to me :D
Also, the UI in this game is an actual masterpiece. I'd play it only for that, even if the rest sucks. Oo
Lu Fan's always been a loyal bro to Sun Jian IRL so no worries about him betraying you man ;)
Looks like duels have improved a lot since the last wave of gameplay videos >> Looking good
The Sentinel is actually good at choke points
Wait... so you send your leader into combat against an entire ... what, 300 guys? I’m over it.
I was like 'testudo' eveyrtime you were saying turtle. love the romans and love rome 1/2 total war. then I realised I cant really correct you on that though :-P
"When in rome, do as the romans"
when in 3 kingdoms though I guess do as the chinse do. ha ha
carry on..... :-P
I love how Sun Jian insists on speaking Chinese while the adviser displays great patience with him
Your video is exellent Lionheart. Maybe you can improve your experience playing TTW: 3 Kingdoms by reading the book, that's help you alot. Very well done 💗
i love the story of dynasty warriors so much
No point giving Sun Jian the concubine. You don't have to worry about satisfaction for the faction leader.
My favourite character from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, hail the Tiger of Jiangdong! Decendent of the great Sun Tzu!
I can't wait for this game!
I think you should only be using the shield formations when you are defending against ranged units not attacking a base as the towers have infinite ammo
The Tiger will be my first playthrough
I'm going Cao Cao.
lol poor huang gai. wins the duel but the game be like"huang gai was defeated" in that first battle XD
Am I the only one who got mad chills hearing that intro?
Its great to see a new campaign from you. Keep it up and let the Lion Roar once more
Thank God it looks like they balanced duels.
I most likely will
So, did you get Three Kingdoms?
The graphics the art style dam this game looks amazing
Probably going to run like shit on most peoples PC's lmao
Considering that many of the warlords descended from important families (Sun Jian from Sun Tzu, Kong Rong from Confucius as examples) it is surprising that as far as I'm aware only Cao Cao quotes the report of them. I wonder why.
The campaign music is amazing. I can't wait for this game.
So hyped for this game, sadly my Pc won't be able to run it, so im stuck with Let's Plays like yours for the next half year, wich isn't such a bad trade. Keep thos 3K campaigns coming.
You also have a horse you can give huang gai.
might want to switch the archers in Sun Jian's retinue over to axe infantry when possible, seeing as you have a strategist in that army and give the strategist another unit of archers so you can eventually have 4 archers and 2 units of trebuchets under him.
