A lot of Armchair "Brickies" posting negative comments on here, probably never laid a Brick in their lives ..........Ive been a Bricklayer for over 30 Years and believe Me, this Man is a very decent Bricklayer, plus He has a conscience, unlike a lot of Builders......I`d be happy to Work along side of Him ...........Top Job Mate, keep the Videos coming .
While I do not disagree with you, he did plumb the brick on course one @5:50 which I am sure was just nerves from the camera 😎 I've been a Brickie for 35 years now as well. In all the years on the tools the best days were when I worked for myself as the sense of achievement and the knowledge that "I did that "is second to none".
That sound of trowel on bricks is why I got hocked on bricklaying honestly it still makes me feel good, plus when people walk by watching you for a few days, telling you how nice it looks, sometimes saying work of art always keeps the trowel moving for me. You've got a nice way of doing your vids really enjoy em. Top class
Been bricklaying all my life , I’m 62. Nothing wrong with this job at all. Very nice on the eye. This lad tries hard and gets it right. Believe you me, I’ve worked on sites where there’s rough work and this wall is well decent. Love the vids mate.
Hey. I have seen that you are long time work in this proffesion. Could you tell something about health? I heard a few times that this proffesion destroys a lot physical health as back/legs.
just read all the comments, 90% agree very nice work mate, ye there are some technical issues but in the real world perfection is very rare, if we price for perfection, maybe e don't get the job, everyone is restricted by price and profit unfortunately, as a 59 yr old ex bricklayer, this man's work is excellent
Beautiful sharp looking curved wall that compliments the house a garden, that’s what you pay a skilled craftsmen for , awesome 👏 tip my hat to you, love the videos.thank you👍
I went to start an extension about thirty years ago .I couldn't believe my eyes I was speechless . someone told him wet concrete finds its own level .I got back in the van and went home .he got a bit stroppy .
Was just reading some of the criticising comments about your wall, I thought it looked tidy , someone said the perps varied in size but my thoughts are that maybe the bricks vary in size, maybe they don’t but you seem like you take pride in your work so I like to give the benefit of the doubt rather than criticise!
Neat job mate 👍.... I've found that flemish bond is more suited to radial /serpentine walling as the half bat between the stretchers allows you to navigate the radius better whilst also allowing the perps / cross joints to be more uniform in width.... 👍
That wee wall will be good for 15 2 20 years no problems. No need for expansion joints and drainage won't be a problem. Watched most of Dean's videos and he is a very skilled brickie. Noticed a lot of negative comments but you can tell he cares and is very passionate about making a tidy job.
I think you are a good bricky, a lot lot lot better than me and I enjoy your vids, I'm not trying to be a keyboard warrior here ...... the brick on edge wont last more than 3 to 5 years as it will suffer from flailing which is expansion of water in the brick during frost , lbc's are the worst for this, it's not text bs you can see many examples. I would waterproof them with the same clear solution used to inject a doc. Sorry to be so honest, it's great to see such craftsmanship...
1 . Why have you used a cheap common for a retaining wall ? Should be a stronger brick 2 . Why have you used a lightweight block at the back ? Should be heavy duty concrete 3 . Why no weeps holes ?
Hi mate Long story had to put customers preferences before my ego and knowledge . The bricks are match to house ,i advised blue engineering to brick on edge but customer didn’t want . Weep holes wore inserted ,also the shrubbery is dry bush ,just soaks up so much moisture throughout the year . If you look we left 300mm between back of wall and earth and filled he with hard core Blocks on the back , don’t want to go into it too much but the previous builder turn the client over for 12 1/2 thousand pound and they literally run out of budget so we use what materials were there to help out , this is why we put 300 mil of hard-core between the Earth and block to help drain the water away to give the block more life. Well observed though mate 👌 Thinking about it now I should’ve really mentioned it on the video but I didn’t want to talk about the previous builder too much
Class mate, not enough good tradesmen round out way in Essex. I find it easier to peg a few batons along the trench, then get the laser level out and mark my footing height of off the laser line (usually measuring down off the laser line). Found it to be a bit quicker and more accurate than oppose to using a level. can get it to the mil if you’ve got ocd like me 😂😂 Lovely work though 👌🏻
what area do you work in? You do good work. I am 73. Enjoy your videos. My Dad was a bricklayer back in 30's and 40's He said the bricklayers wore shirt and tie, plus the better ones did the corners and would get a sixpence more a week.
I think the wall looks very nice even though I do agree with some of the negative comments. Having said that I think you come across as pretty good chap who I could easily work with. Everyone can learn something new every day and that includes me and I have been a Bricklayer for 45 years now and I am saddened at the poor standard of most brickwork today. There is no such thing as perfection but, there no harm in trying to achieve 100%.
I have a question......well two actually and its a genuine question not a critisism; on the perp joints why do you only spread a tiny amount an the front face and the back, why leave a void in the middle and I know it isn't because the mortar fills the middle when you lay the brick because there is insufficient mortar to do that? And why are some laid frog up and some frog down?
