I loved Boy and the Heron /How do you live! Saw in theaters. Did not outdo the Ghiblis I love from childhood but had so many layers, I think it will be great to revisit as the years go by. My other favorite film I saw this year was Licorice Pizza (2021). just a pure delight. not action or superheroes but so fun, at least if you have any fondness for 1970s southern California.
Cool lists! I think my favorite film that I saw for the first time this year was the Swedish sci-fi movie Aniara, from 2018. That thing infected my brain big time. Loved Furiosa as well, and of course Deadpool & Wolverine.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice & On the Waterfront are my top two of the year.
