Lyrics:
Mama was queen of the mambo
papa was king of the congo
deep down in the jungle
I start banging my first bongo
every monkey like to be
in my place instead of me
cause I'm the king of bongo, baby
I'm the king of bongo bong
I went to the big town
where there is a lot of sound
from the jungle to the city
looking for a bigger crown
so I played my boogie
for the people of big city
but they don't go crazy
when I banging on my boogie
I'm the
King of the bongo king of the bongo bong
hear me when I come, baby
king of the bongo, king of the bongo bong
Nobody like to be
in my place instead of me
'cause nobody go crazy
when I banging on my boogie
I'm a king without a crown
hanging loose in the big town
but I'm the king of bongo, baby
I'm the king of bongo bong
King of the bongo king of the bongo bong
hear me when I come, baby
king of the bongo, king of the bongo bong
hear me when I come
They say that I'm a clown
making too much dirty sound
they say there is no place
for little monkey in this town
nobody like to be
in my place instead of me
'cause nobody go crazy
when I banging on my boogie
I'm the
King of the bongo king of the bongo bong
hear me when I come, baby
king of the bongo, king of the bongo bong
hear me when I come
Banging on my bongo
all that swing belongs to me
I'm so happy there's nobody
in my place instead of me
I'm a king without a crown
hanging loose in a big town
I'm the king of bongo baby
I'm the king of bongo bong
King of the bongo king of the bongo bong
hear me when I come, baby
king of the bongo, king of the bongo bong
hear me when I come
Mama was queen of the mambo
papa was king of the congo
deep down in the jungle
I start banging my first bongo
every monkey like to be
in my place instead of me
'cause I'm the king of bongo, baby
I'm the king of bongo bong
hear me when I come
hear me when I come, baby
king of the bongo, king of the bongo bong
hear me when I come.

i remember those days when i was unemployed, out of work and frankly no money in bank. I bought these 6 donuts for $1 and discovered this song while eating them.. Those days, i will never forget...
lol man!
the good old days
what year?
Haha little moments i cant forget.. the life is based on this hommie.. :D
6 donuts for a $1, ...........those were the days, hey ? Love Manu !
This songs about a man who loves the drums had some success and moved to the big city only to realise nobody wanted to listen, yet kept playing for passion. We can all take a lesson from that
Wait, what?
I thought this song is just an autobiography of a monkey. Didn't knew it had deeper meanings
@@deathstroke7316 damn just realized myself
Including the lesson that says PAY HIM.
this is about colonialism .
This man has a Grest BONGO!
Wow the memories I have of this song. I was in Rome, Italy in '99 and the underground club scene were playing a lot of Manu Chau. That's where I first heard Bongo Bong, high on Moroccan gold hashish
That's a nice history, you're cool
omg this is gold your history too
Sounds epic 🤙

Memories forever, so cool!
I was a little child, this was 2010s and our family traveled across country. We went to various places, and every time we were at highway, my parents used to turn on Manu Chao songs. I love that times, no school, no responsibility and no stress at all(
Za, śeee
I was never born at 2010's😅
Let's pray for people who's still looking for this song
2024 where y'all at ?
Im here brotha
I am in a depressed state due to huge stress at work and in private, everything is changing so fast around me and I feel lost. Then my SO played a remix of this gem and I immedeatly had to pull up the original. It is so unbelievably relaxing... It just flows and takes the stress with it.... Thank you from the deepnes of my heart, this song relived some mayor pain for me...

Before my mom died we would all circle around her computer and dance to this song because we loved it so much, still hits :.(
Damn brother im so sorry to hear that man,rip to your mama bro 🙏💯😢
My mother just recently passed from ALS. I know exactly the feeling of music and memories! Sharing my love with you

I was working in Turnkey Soundhouse (RIP) in London when I first heard this back in 2005-ish. Never heard ut again until now (21/3/2022). Big smile on my dial!
This song was like a warm blanket coming down after a heavy night of partying for me and my friends. We would be still high and this just sounded amazing. The good o’l days. Miss those times but glad to not have them back.
It was about 11 years since i heard this song.
Then, tonight i got drunk, and somehow got this song in my head...
I was glad that it happened.
about a month ago a single neuron worth of memory hit me and i remembered dancing to this song from when i was like 6 years old. found the cd deep in my attic storage today, finally found the song. now i am on a trip of nostalgia
Same here. My parents had it on a world music cd we used to listen to on road trips. 15 years later in college a friend put it on randomly. Tripped me out
yes this was vibe when i was like 5 so much nistolgia
Are you sure that was just a single one? I would think that wouldn't be enough to arrive to the specific memory you describe. A single neuron wouldn't even save you in a flight or fight situation either. The most, it would have you at some kind of a big bang place and from there you could branch into anywhere. From a single neuron to arrive to what you describe you would have to jump from non existence into when you were 6 years old means that you are stuck in somekind of a memory time-loop where your mind can only think of this experience but that would mean that you are on life support in a hospital and that you couldn't have wrote this down.
This is *EXACTLY * what happened to me .. all I could remember a few words of the French part and it took several ridiculous Google searches to find it lol. But how weird that out of nowhere the thought just hit me involuntarily.. and then it happened to more than one person 😳
This song speaks to artists, and it says keep going, and to know your worth and just do your thing even if no one appreciates it and it’s honestly the best message there is, one that needs to be heard by many! Don’t ever let it get to you, you must know why you’re doing it and it’s not for anyone else than yourself, because it make YOU happy and people will see that sooner or later and you’ll make others happy too without even trying.
Not only about artists, about every one of us.
Keep doing your thing if it makes you happy it doesn't have to make sense to others, cause that's what is all about to love who you are and what you do,to be the "king" of your life.❤
Gosh, I've been hearing this song when I was a child! How could I forget this masterpiece
I used to listen to this as a kid on a CD, I think it was called "World Music". Nice blue disk with amazing music. Really opened me up to many genres of music that I still enjoy to this day
"they say that I'm a clown making two much dirty sound, they say there's no place for little monkey in this town" real asf
I remember 6 year old me was listening to a compressed version on an old Sony Ericsson back in i guess 2008, such fond memories of giving it a listen to my friends and schoolmates, laying under blanket at night and doing the same, on the lowest volume and hiding the speaker under palm, and walking around town and sitting on a bench or on fence and pulling Ericsson out of pocket to swiftly navigate through menus and play it another time
Did once for the last time before i discovered it again, now in early spring of 2021, it was such a blast remembering it and understanding the painfully known words for real now
This song hopefully will accompany me for another life time
Omg lmfao after 15 years I finally find this song !!!!! This is the best day EVERRRRRR 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
J'écoutais cette chanson lorsque j'avais 16 ans, et ça fais tellement de bien depuis tout ce temps qui c'est écoulé. Génial !!!
i was kids when i hear this song with my mom ( probabily 5 years ) and i listen again today ! again and again. manu chao thank you very much for this mélodie !! 👌👍
I heard this song at a very young age in 2003. It sounded in my mind up to this day in 2023.. life is so amazing. I thank God for life. Life is something to think about. It's something just lent to us by someone we don't understand at all. God. God is good. How we be kids and now adults and then elders.. then death? Of which some people dies at a young age. But in all aspects, we all go eventually. Then we ask.. why? Why do we come here? Why do we go? Who started this? And why? For what? God have mercy on me. Jesus Christ i give you my life.
I knew there was music in this world that not everyone knows about, this is a treasure❤️
Can't believe it,I've listened to this song when I was nine years old and now finally found it.
priceless...

Me too me too hahaha!
I was backpacking somewhere in the Aussy bush by the Murray River. And hanging out with my French backpacker mates in their camper van there, is when I first heard this song. They played it alot woow this takes me back!
Ten years ago in September yeah this season, early spring time, doing seasonal work picking fruit on nearby farms.
I'm really enjoying sharing these memories, seeing others stories here. It's Spring again 🌸

We were at the beach, end of summer 2022. my parents are divorced so little treats with us four, including my sister, are special. Manu Chao popped up in my youtube recommended a few weeks prio, loved it because it felt so nostalgic.

Awesome!
Wooow. I haven’t heard this in such a long time. My father used to listen to this all the time. The sound has become so familiar to me. Amazing to rediscover this ❤️
i remember when i was 18 i just got my driving license, went to the garage, jump in the car, played this one, turned up the volume, windows down. i can say i was feeling like the king of the bongo
My dad used to listen to this song very often before he left the family. It's funny looking back on the things your parents listened to, and draw conclusions to what they must have felt back then, listening to those lyrics.
The french part of the lyrics say
"I don't love you anymore my beloved
I don't love you always
...
Sometimes I would like to die so much I wanted to believe
Sometimes I'd like to die for not having anything
Sometimes I'd like to die and never see you again"
I don't know if your father know french but is pretty interesting, very often the lyrics of songs are importants...
Ah Manu Chao !!

I've been diagnosed with schizophrenia two years ago. I thought it was normal for people to hear voices and see things that nobody else would see. I've entered hospital yesterday. I'm all alone in a room full of my thoughts. All I have is this song which reminds me of the new friends I made myself on the beach before I enter the hospital. They are everything I could have dreamt of. I know I'm not alone, and I know I have to go through this to get better. I don't care about how hard this can be, I only think about the final exit, where I'll be able to think by myself and enjoy life as it really is. :) I'm so grateful for this song to make me feel better. Please, don't stop listening to music. It is, according to me, the only way to feel surrounded. Life isn't easy, being seen as crazy isn't easy either. Sometimes you have to go through your worst phase to find your inner peace. Please don't give up. Let's try to enjoy life together.
Wow, thats a tough story. Makes my own problems feel so little in comparison. Stay strong! I wish you the best. :)
@@joshi5944 thanks a lot for your support ! Please do not minimize your problems, what you are feeling is real, no matter how small it can be :) stay strong my friend !

Я в хорошем кайфе.Пятый раз ставлю снова)).Ещё и ностальгия).👏👏👏👏👏
I FINALLY FOUND THIS SONG IM 20 NOW I LISTENED TO THIS WHEN I WAS 11
The ending of the song always strikes me somehow, because it's happy sounding song but the french lyrics are not:
Je ne t’aime plus mon amour
Je ne t’aime plus tous les jours
Je ne t’aime plus mon amour
Je ne t’aime plus tous les jours
Parfois j’aimerais mourir, tellement j’ai voulu croire
In english:
I don’t love you anymore, my love
I will never love you again
I don’t love you anymore, my love
I will never love you again
Sometimes I’d like to die, I really wanted to believe
Sometimes I’d like to die, so I’d have nothing
Sometimes I’d like to die, to never see you again
Sometimes I’d like to die, because there’s no hope
Sometimes I’d like to die, to never see you again
Sometimes I’d like to die, to forget everything
They are two different songs: "Bongo Bong" and "Je Ne T'aime Plus"
lesslandsaddicted i know but as you can hear they are combined here, as Je ne t'aime plus as an ending.
This is just a more happy way of saying "We're breaking up".
Pale Emperor thanks 😊

I love how for some reason this song fills people with nostalgic memories, and it's not different for me, I remember my dad used to listen to this while I'd follow him around the house fixing things, those times when my parents were still there and I was just a little sh!t, it's so bittersweet to remember these things

The first time I heard this song, it was winter, last year. I was with my best friend, the one girl I have known for my whole life, who has become a part of my own soul, the one person I may love the most in the world... we were lying on a grilled floor scattered with automn leaves, at night, on a natural stone balcony above the lake, in the park of our childhood, and we were gazing at the sky peacefully despite the cold of the showing winter
Je ne t’aime plus mon amour
Je ne t’aime plus tous les jours
Je ne t’aime plus mon amour

Funny how sometimes you can remember exactly where you were when you first heard a song. I was on a overnight road trip from Columbia MO to Pensacola FL with some friends. We were somewhere south of Memphis and had just lost the radio station broadcasting Coast to Coast AM so we popped in a mix CD. This track just grabbed me and never let go.
Nice
I was 15 in 2008 on a bus in Vienna Austira with my soccer team and this song was playing over the speakers. My team was hyper, speaking loud while I was vibing to this song while looking out the window at the scenery. I wrote down the lyrics and RUclips searched it when I got home to the US. Wow what a memory.
Nice story, I had a hard time finding the song because I heard it as a child and I didn't know English, I only knew that the song said bongo hahaha
