Thank you for posting this. It's over the top, and amazing the trains can even get over a roadbed in that condition. I don't think it was always in this condition. I rode it from Quito almost to Duran in 1979, the other direction going down. Several miles from Duran we stopped for a while until some busses came to pick us up. Apparently the Plantation workers went on strike and pulled up the tracks, so that was the end of the ride, and unfortunately no trains went back up hill. I don't remember so much of this, as um yes it was 45 years ago. What a shame they are not going to keep it running because it truly is a unique treasure! Que lindos esos memorias, pues. Tuves mucho suerte hacer ese viaje. Gracias
Yes it was surprising that the train could still run with the track so bad. It is a great shame that after relaying the track and overhauling the locomotives operations ceased in 2020. One can only hope that it will reopen soon before to much damage is done.
The tour company in UK arranged with the railway management, I expect they were glad for the income La compañía de viajes en el Reino Unido hizo los arreglos con la administración del ferrocarril, supongo que estaban contentos con los ingresos.
