If the leather of vintage Coach is similar to Hermes, I definitely don't think I'll ever feel the need to buy Hermes! The price difference and difficulty of getting the bag would deter me.

I purchased a used 9966 after watching Josh James’ videos and I looove it. The quality on the leather is unbeatable. I do wish the strap went longer so I could use as a crossbody. But, it’s still one of my favorite bags I own.
Coach just reissued some of it’s 90’s bags to it’s originals line! They look amazing! So funny because I just picked up a vintage geometric crossbody and they brought it back lol!
Just Jennifer Me too! Just learned something new today from Coachcrazes video, some of the new pieces are stamped “original glove tanned leather”. Not sure if that means they are using the leather from way back when or not but I need to see them in person lol!
Jennifer since both bags are silver hardware you can definitely use the Hermes strap on your 9966. There's a channel on YT talking about switching out the straps
Coach reissued this bag, it's call the Emery Crossbody. Pebble leather, gold hardware, a slip pocket in the front and a zip pocket in the back. Love it! 💕

Great video! I love Coach's vintage leather! There's just nothing better. I just received my third Willis yesterday in Mahogany (already have black and British tan) They are phenomenal bags! I've been wanting an Hermes Evelyn for quite some time but I think I just need to get my hands on a 9966 first.
Do you think a regular iPad would fit in the 9966? I prefer lined bags, but I really need a new crossbody that can (sometimes) have a device shoved in for short times. My current weekend carry, a PS1-inspired Coach Bleecker Brooklyn Messenger bag from 2014 has a broken turnlock.
Frankly I do prefer the vtg. Coach. The quality has been proven over and over through the years (the vtg that is..) and they always look brand new even after having been put through the wringer with use sometimes. The leather is gorgeous, soft and the colours perfect. The manufacturing is superb. I own several Hermes bags and the fact that I have to shelter and baby them from rain, snow and so forth after having paid so much for them makes me kind of mad sometimes. The same goes for my Chanel (s)... Ever since you and Josh posted the videos I've been looking around and I have gotten several incredibly gorgeous 70's and 80's Coach bags, pristine and perfect in spite of their age. Can't wait for the restoration videos on yours!
I have all the things I need to try and refurbish my dirtiest vintage Coach bag...now I just need the courage to do it! Dunking it in a sink full of soapy water will be the hardest part! I'll make myself do it soon. :)
Great review between these two bags! Have you experienced color transfer or flaking from the raw leather inside the Coach bag onto your SLGs? I think I might have this bag in near new condition in my closet! I'm going to go check on that! Also, I'm wondering about your cute black & white shirt. Is it made by Rails?
Thank you! No, I have not seen any color transfer from the interior of either bag. I use my LV damier azur sunglasses case all the time, and it is my color transfer "test piece". So far, it is still fine! :)

Jennifer, do you think that the leather cleaner/moisturizer that they sell pretty much anywhere (Kiwi is the name, I think), is ok for Coach bags, or should I order the Coach brand?
I have seen the Eme bag online but have not had the chance to see and feel it in person. I will have to do that as soon as possible. It appears to be a bit thinner than vintage leather, but hard to tell from a photo. The Eme leather is pebbled, too...unlike the vintage 9966.
I bought (and returned) the larger Emery. Lovely design, fabulous pebbled leather that felt thick. Loved the two external pockets - 1 slip and a zip. But it is a VERY structured bag, didn’t open as wide, and not as wide at the bottom as the Legacy Top Zip 9966. Made it hard to fit my stuff. :(
I returned my Emery bag, the leather (pebbled) felt like it was coated with plastic and it was extremely stiff. It can’t compare to the vintage leather imo.

I bought the Emery. Shape is the same, but it is a heavily structured pebbled leather. Not smooshy at all.
