I knew Jim Creiton back in the early 70'. We used to play high schools for beer and pizza money. I'm really proud of him and his little brother Ian. He was so small back then we called him "peanuts".
I *loved* this song as a kid, and hadn't thought about it in years until I heard it on the radio yesterday. Now I can't get it out of my head, and have spent the morning researching Saga online. I wish this song was available on the iTunes store!
WOW!!! I never realized this song was as popular as it is. I love this song and I'm happy that you guys love it ,too.I always caught shit for loving and playing their music never understood why. never, ever got it. My son (he's 3) looses his f'n mind when he hears this song. up & down on the couch... down the hallway...he's a trip.anyway.tube on. thanx again : )
hey melodic, i have been a fan of your fathers band since the 80's. i was the kid that turned everyone in my town on to saga.. i am proud to say, so tell your pop i have enjoyed his band for a long time, thanks bro, johnny from jersey....
Still a hot song - I never get tired of these guys. I wish they had been really huge in the States. But thank God for the days when MTV had a far more diverse and truly global playlist than they do now...
i love this song i remember from 1981 or 1982, the best decade of music i was lucky to grow up during the 1980's thats a life time memory i will never forget even a great song like this was one of my favs!!!!! todays music is so sorry ass
Probaly one of the best gigs Saga ever did!!! After this gig and Security everything bégan to get smaller and smaller and smaller... Holy shit, they still could fill places like that one! SAGA 4 EVER!
@sLdGlD This is just such a well crafted number. Look at how the flow of the music just draws the energy out of the crowd. The melodies , the breaks , the opening elevation into an explosion. This is what every songwriter wishes to achieve. Well done Saga
I met Ian from the band in the early 80's after a Sunday baseball game . At that time i didn't know who he was. I happened to be at Marty Moran's place , the drummer from Goddo , i didn't know who he was either. Really nice poeple and a great memory from my early days in Toronto.
Great song. Never got to see them live either. Loved the music video for this. Haven't seen it in ages then I saw it here and it's been taken down. :-(
Great song... great band... fan 4 ever!! But it really sucked that they cancelled a gig in Helmond (NL) in Nov. 2007, which took me a 3 hrs. drive. So thanxxx for that guys... NOT!!! :(((
Man - editing is everything. If you have no ear for music - can't determine WHY things sound good - then you might miss the keys to SAGA's impact: voice + keyboards + guitar: ya, Sadler has an amazing voice (no shit), and the tune is well crafted - but if you have a modicum of guitar knowledge, you hear how Crichton has to frigin' fight for every note (square wave vrs modular) and it's an exercise in talent versus horsepower. Yeah Ian -
Someone else already mentioned it, but...most singers tend to start vocals softly, slowly and build and find their spot, but he just starts full speed, launched out of a cannon at 1:31.
Can you please, please beg your dad and the rest of the band to let videos like this stay on youtube? Too many older bands are getting really awful about taking all their videos off this place - to be honest it's AWESOME advertising, especially for older or little known bands (Everyone in Canada knows Saga, but most of my American friends have no clue!)
And he still has it thirty years later! Seen a recent version of "The Runaway" (perhaps his most challenging vocal part) and he still hit ALL of the high notes.
Strange the nature of success. Growing up in Toronto during Saga's heyday the band's music was definitely popular radio fare. My impression was that Saga was a modest success, certainly not as sought after as Rush or Max Webster, despite the proficiency of its players. Years later I was astounded to learn of Saga's mass appeal in Germany, the market that elevated David Hasselhoff to the ranks of pop stardom no less. Strange indeed.
@mfitz1969 Hey, works for me too. You can get a DX7 for $350 on craigslist! At the time, this band used to prepare their shows a day or more in advance for the set up; they were ahead of the time .
GothMog. This isn't Awful. It is great. It is TIGHT AS HELL, and voice and instruments sound fantastic. THIS BAND ROCKS!!! Saga is SWEET and very good. Great Singing, Bass, Drums, Synth, Guitar, and MESSAGE!!! Get your head out of the dirt!!!
In this day of modern music, I figured the DX-7 was dead. Owned one in the 80's(hated it). I'm a true Roland fan, but the main keys don't sound the same like they were made on the DX-7? Anyone on what the keys were recorded on the album?
The intro/theme was originally performed on Yamaha CS-80 using a string-type sound with a quick attack. This huge, horribly unreliable beast left their live rig in1983. Filling in here is a more percussive Marimba type sound on Yamaha DX-7. Normally I wouldn't approve of playing CS-80 parts on DX-7 but I think it works here. The sound really cuts through live, where the CS-80 could get muddy. I'm also not one of those that believesa a band should try to slavishly repeat their old sound.
I took a girl to a SAGA concert that I did not even like, just to hear them play, they were the opening act, but blew the main band off the stage..Of course they didn't spout this enviormental crap!!!!! Man that song still ROCKS!!! Semper Fi SAGA!!!!
Is the crowd dead or something? either that or they are singing in a VERY soft voice... Please tell me if they are singing in a soft voice, eitherwise I will assume that (maybe both - dead and singing softly?) Anyway, the crowd should be have a lot more energy and scream: "Tonight we're on the loose!"; at least that is my personal opinion
So they went to New York soon after and I'm assuming were successful at saving the planet -- 28 years later and we're still here. Thank you, Saga!
Carlton Reese 😂😂😂
One of the greatest bands to come out of Canada!
Completly underestimated band !! Really Time less, powerfull and unique , and Live as brilliant as recored in the studio !
Man that guy has a fantastic, powerful voice!
I knew Jim Creiton back in the early 70'. We used to play high schools for beer and pizza money. I'm really proud of him and his little brother Ian. He was so small back then we called him "peanuts".
these guys were one of the most underrated band!! they ruled!!!
I *loved* this song as a kid, and hadn't thought about it in years until I heard it on the radio yesterday. Now I can't get it out of my head, and have spent the morning researching Saga online. I wish this song was available on the iTunes store!
What can I say, simple one of the best Rock tunes of the 80's. Great band, they just didn't give'em enough credit...
Such high energy music, I love it.
Wow, I guess everyone raising their hands at this concert kept the planet going all this time and we never even knew lol thank you saga!
hey melodic, i have been a fan of your fathers band since the 80's. i was the kid that turned everyone in my town on to saga.. i am proud to say, so tell your pop i have enjoyed his band for a long time, thanks bro, johnny from jersey....

Crichton is such a bad ass player!!!
@sLdGlD This is just such a well crafted number. Look at how the flow of the music just draws the energy out of the crowd. The melodies , the breaks , the opening elevation into an explosion. This is what every songwriter wishes to achieve. Well done Saga
I fucking LOVE this song, this will be my jogging song!!!!!!!
I met Ian from the band in the early 80's after a Sunday baseball game . At that time i didn't know who he was. I happened to be at Marty Moran's place , the drummer from Goddo , i didn't know who he was either. Really nice poeple and a great memory from my early days in Toronto.

Wow never got to see these guys live, I missed out
underrated awesome musicians at least in the US anyway. Love em
this is my all time favoite.. im soo happy you posted this.. they sound AWSOME live.
YYYEEEAHHHHH !! FINally SAGA to be found at the web!!!!!! Waited way to mnay years for them!
it's amazing how michael has kept his vocals dead on. typical singers seem to lose it decades later.
Even his ProgJect tour from April 2022, his voice is dynamic as ever.
IT IS NOW ON ITUNES!
I just loved saga from the start...!
WOOOOOOOOOOW!!
I haven't seen a place fucking EXPLODE like that in a while when the song opens! Wish iw as there! :O
This song kicks some serious ass!
first heared this song at the op surfing contest at huntington beach in the 1980;s
Great fuckin song 😎

I loved this song growing up in the 80's. Its a shame this group never made it big in the US. I thought they were great.
Woo hoo! You've made my day! I just bought it. :-)
Push it is only on the German release and on the US the Song Thin Ice
in de jaren 80 mijn helden
Someone else already mentioned it, but...most singers tend to start vocals softly, slowly and build and find their spot, but he just starts full speed, launched out of a cannon at 1:31.
great song :)
The button being off drove me nuts. But it is great they have the same sound.
Brilliant Stuff
I spotted two Yamaha DX-7 synthesizers used by the keyboardist.
Brutal!!! Freakin' SMOKIN'!
kickass baby

Killer..I like his voice !
Yo Saga rocked back in da day....
Possibly Moog synthesizers that were seen in the original music video.
The 80s spoiled us. Proof.
As I’ve stated on other great 80s tunes.
**POSTPONED ** 08.11.07 - New Collosium, San Juan Puerto Rico :-(
greetings from germany : sagaplanet
Michael Sadler at 4.23.....best singer/frontman ever!!
This version has the BEST audio. I'm thinking of DLing this just for the audio... just sayin.
The original video was on youtube but was taken down a few months ago :( can't find it anywhere else !
Wow, does he ever have a voice!
And he still has it thirty years later! Seen a recent version of "The Runaway" (perhaps his most challenging vocal part) and he still hit ALL of the high notes.
mullets and digital synths! ;) 1992!

Ian was spot on like always though!
this rocks

Voice is clear
Saga knows how to made great Music and Lyrics...- not just 3 chords in 1 Song
This song has just 2 chords but, I agree... 😉
I didn't live in the eighties .. :'(

At the time, this band used to prepare their shows a day or more in advance for the set up; they were ahead of the time .
PPg Wave 2.0, micro/poly/multimoog, yamaha CS80,
Hairs poppin' outta the chest is classic though.

@FalconFBDT64
Wow, you are only 23 and into this stuff. Rock on, bro. Spread that energy cause today's music has cancer.
Is that .BUCKAROO BANZAI. ???¿???
sure looks like it
I noticed this band has a hell of a time getting the audience to sing song parts
Yeah, seriously!
Does Saga tour in the US?
4:15-4:44 = Best part :)
with all due respect, Rush and The Guess Who would have something to say about that...
if you have such hatred why are you even here?
Pity no one is pogo-ing - that REALLY would have torn it up!
It that
BUCKAROO
who is the hot guitarist..does anybody know
I took a girl to a SAGA concert that I did not even like, just to hear them play, they were the opening act, but blew the main band off the stage..Of course they didn't spout this enviormental crap!!!!! Man that song still ROCKS!!! Semper Fi SAGA!!!!

It's just a bad mix / no crowd mic. They're singing at the top of their lungs
RUSH, TRIUMPH, then SAGA. Then........?
Rush get's top billing, THEN Saga.
