I reacted live to the 《Azure Waters》: Bronya & Seele's story from Honkai Impact 3rd. It honestly makes me want to cry, this is so sad and every character I know is messed up in this universe.
That being said, interesting that so many elements are still the same between the two!
Thank you as always for recommending me cool things to watch and react!

Some clarifications seem to be in order. In HSR Bronya and Seele were never together at the orphanage. They determine trough their conversation that they were both at the same one but at different times and they never overlapped.
Cocolia in HI3rd runs an orphanage. She has no children of her own. Bronya is a child assassin and a very good one at that, so what you're seeing here is one of her rare failure's. Cocolia for reasons that are only shown towards the end of Part 1 of the game's story (I think, if they're hinted at or shown elsewhere someone please correct me) takes her into the orphanage. Seele does take Bronya's place in the experiment - she ends up stranded in the Sea of Quanta - a dimension that is outside the normal universe. Then Bronya threatens her own life to get Cocolia to allow her to try and get Seele back. She finds her but can't bring her out and the exposure to the Sea causes her physical injuries, chiefly brain damage that leaves her without access to most of her emotions. Some places will say all of her emotions but she's been show to be plenty able to be annoyed with Kiana so I'm going with most :).
And like others have said - strongly recommended you read the manga Azure Waters. It's fairly short (I think it's about a dozen chapters) and explains all of this and more in detail.

Blonde hair woman is not their birth mother, she adopted all the kids. Also, Bronya was trying to assassinate her, but failed and was forcefully adopted.

Fun fact: Azure Water is canon in both GGZ (Houkai Gauken 2nd) and Honkai Impact 3rd, The backstory of how seele and bronya met.
The white hair character is Sin. She doesn't do anything in Honkai impact 3rd, but she is one of the characters in GGZ.

There's one mission, I think Himeko's Chronicles one, where Sin brings reinforcements, but she starts to run as soon as the caverns start collapsing. Otherwise, yeah, I don't think she appears.

@@BNuts I think she got mentioned by Roza and Lily in chapter 11 or so (the one where you go help Cocolia get the gem of desire) but yeah, I want justice for Sin Mal. And yeah I know this is 4 months old thread, I don't care.

Cocolia used to be an officer in the Russian military, however Russia was devastated in the _Second Eruption_ . This is when she met Alexandra Zaychik when she was pregnant with Bronya. Bronya herself was raised by mercenaries, and specialized in sniping, and was known as the Wolf of the Urals. Cocolia was a target, but captured Bronya and took her to her orphanage in Scandinavia. The orphanage was also an operation that Cocolia ran as a leader of Anti-Entropy, which had split from Schicksal prior. The orphanage is where Bronya, Seele Vollerei, Rozaliya, and Liliya lived together.
Sin Mal was another girl living there, and she had a lot of pride and hated people like Seele who were shy and scared. Sin Mal bullied Seele a lot, and Bronya protected her. The orphanage also tested its children for Honkai compatibility, which was the metal shaping exercise you saw. Sin couldn't stand Bronya being better than her, so she pushed the latter down the stairs and stomped on her legs so she wouldn't be able to walk, and Sin would be chosen for the experiments -- all while Seele hid, paralyzed with fear.
The X-10 experiments had to do with the Sea of Quanta, where the Sovereign of Anti-Entropy, Welt Yang, was trapped. Seele decided she wanted to be the one protecting this time, and told Cocolia she wanted to take Bronya's place. She showed Cocolia her stigma, a sign of Honkai adaptability. Cocolia accepted, and at first the experiment was going well, but then it failed, and Seele was completely quantized, losing her physical form.
At this point, the stigma being inside her jumped into control. She manifested partially back in the real world, but not enough to be recognizable. Due to the Honkai energy readings, Cocolia thought they were under attack, and ordered her forces to counter. Just as she was about to reach Bronya, Seele disappeared. As soon as she found out what happened, Bronya went to Cocolia, and forced her to repeat the experiment on her so she could go be with Seele.
Within the Sea of Quanta, Bronya found Seele trapped. She was unable to leave, but if Bronya stayed too long, she would also be trapped. Seele gave her a lesser copy of the Herrscher of Reason's ability, _Rebuild_ , and sent her back to the real world with the promise that Bronya would come back to rescue Seele. _Rebuild_ allowed Bronya to construct a support mech for herself, called Project Bunny 19C.
But in the real world, her body was badly corrupted by the Honkai energy flowing through it. Bronya lost the use of her legs and her ability to emote properly. Cocolia gave her prosthetics for her legs, and a biochip implanted into her brain to help her control both her legs and Project Bunny. Bronya became an agent of Anti-Entropy after that, with the personal mission to find a way to rescue Seele.

Azure Waters is the story of how Bronya and Seele met and also explains why Bronya has a giant, floating mech that she can control and why she can’t express her emotions. As for Seele it just explains the “Other” a bit and how she she ended up in the Sea of Quanta during the game. Cocolia is still also a complete and utter jerk here though to a much lesser degree where she actually cares about everyone in the Orphanage. As for Bronya’s mother, she is seen a couple times in the Second Eruption manga and is finally met in some flashbacks during the Moon’s Origin and Finality.

Welcome to the world of Honkai, glad you are enjoying.
At the start, Mihoyo spread their sources too thin with story oriented events and manga. Added that their narrative style is similar to the "Unreliable Narrator" style, since it tells only what the characters know rather that what it is, It tends to be slightly confusing at first; and even to this day people are trying to piece everything together. 7 years in the making and we still don't know what exactly happened in "The Tragedy of Binding", 50 thousand years ago.
I loved how Genshin brought this to light for new players to discover this wonderful story and more so now with Star Rail. Currently soon v7.2 and with the new "season" of Honkai Impact part 2 to come in v7.3, its the perfect time to get to know how it all started, ended, and moved forward.
For literal years I have watched countless reactions to this and looking forward to yours. Once more, Welcome to Hoyoverse, Trailblazer. Your initiation starts here

This video is short recap of "Azure Waters" manga. Big part of Honkai Impact 3rd story is hidden in manga. Game starts after "3rd impact", and 2 other happen behind scenes in manga.
BTW, Azure Waters take place in Siberia USSR. Cocolia is EX KGB agent, a member of scientific organization, owner of an orphanage, where she is experimenting on children.
Bronya is a kid soldier who failed Cocolia's assasination, and Seele was kidnapped by terrorists, both ended up in Cocolia's orphanage.
X-10 experiment was about reaching Sea of Quanta, a place between dimensions. It was successful with Seele, so she turned into bunch of blue butterflies, entered quantum state and disappeared from reality. It's funny how they are using all of this in HSR without explanation of anything.
Bronya made Cocolia take her into experiment too to reach Sea of Quanta and find Seele, but it failed and she lost part of her brain, so now Bronya can't feel complicated emotions and use her legs without exoskeleton.

I mean yes, but I think the reason she can't use her legs is because Sin broke her legs and they didn't get fully healed, then when she was trying to find Seele in the SoQ she was in longer then the limit that scientist set thus the honkai infection spread through her legs (and brain but that is not important for what I'm trying to say) So yes it is partialy because x-10 but that would not happen if Sin didn't play "super fun stair slide" with Bronya. I mean many things wouldn't happen if that was the case, for instance it could be bronya who was stuck in SoQ and not Seele, because Seele wouldn't know about the experiment without reason to talk with Sin. Well thanks to anyone who read my ranting.

@@stonyplace1651 yep, everything started with Sin pushing Bronya from stairs. Without that event Seele would probably not break down mentally as well.

@@0kaiKai But I mean there was reason for that too, well it depends if it is canon too cuz azure waters is canon for ggz an hi3 however I'm not sure if Sin's backstory manga is too, so correct if I'm wrong. Still, Sin just wanted to be "human" 😭
      Still fucked up though.

@@stonyplace1651 we don't have any backstory for Sin in HI3 media, AFAIK. And her special eye isn't explained either. That's why she is hated so much.
