Using 'twin and earth' cable was a late 80s 'solid core' trend. As opposed to Woolworths bellwire it was an improvement. I think the owner was a 1980s tinkerer.
I had a pair of these for years, I upgraded to JBLs and stored them in my garage, When I needed the space I advertised them for £50 and sold them straight away. The buyer asked to hear them, so I connected them up and realised how good they were. Always regretted selling them.
Hi Matt, regarding locked voice coils, it could also be that the pole piece got unglued and is jamming against the voice coil. This had happen on a pair of Cabasse 14" bass drivers that I repaired. I even made a special jig to repair the issue and had new voice coils custom made to match as best as possible the original ones.
I made a jig to to help reassemble the magnet / motor structure. Very useful. The magnets haven't shifted so its not pinching the former. Cooked voice coil windings 😢
Someone has really overdriven these and naturally all drivers don't pop at the same time. So it makes me think that who ever abused these didn't care at all about the sound. I mean at some point only part of the drivers were working and they just kept abusing them. Absolutely insane situation.

How sad, hate to see classic speakers end up this way. However they were probably enjoyed during their day 😀
Sad tail....I guess at least you may be able to rebuild a pair of tweeters out of it...
Yeah repairing those would be like triggers broom.
