KEF LS50 Wireless is a great pair of speakers for the people who like to stream their music and to get rid of many components from typical Hifi system but it will not or can not replace the system of pure analog set up of hardcore audiophiles and music lovers but it is the future of music listening for most people except for the guys like me with pure love of analog playback.
I got my ls50 on sale a year ago. paired with an elac amp and and an svs sub for a complete desktop setup, and all i can say is DAMN. Never in my life have i been so intrigued to listen to music that ive never listened to. I listen to music to hear the sound, and god is it UHHHMMAAAZZZINGGGG!!!!!
You'll eventually want more and spend 3 times as much lmao. It happens to everyone. I had my LS50's for 3 years tho until I wanted an upgrade so they were worth it. Had some solid sessions with them
For anyone with interest for the KEF LS50s, if you add a Peachtree Decco125 and the KEF R400b, the system you get will be enough to satisfy 99% of most audiophiles out there. I’ve been doing this for over 30 years, having spent a lot of money with many set ups and wished I had found this one years ago. I have stopped buying and selling for quite a time now and have really started to enjoy my hobby the way it first was when I got into it. I’ve owned systems costing upwards of $30,000+ and one day woke up and asked my self why I was so unhappy. Answer, the connection to music was gone, only striving for the best and most expensive equipment. I have sold off much of this stuff and stated over with the basic system I list above. Throw in a modest turntable,, and a Bluetooth connection to the internet music providers and you too can be as happy as I. I hope this might save some of you a bit of time and money in your pursuit of music enjoyment.
Tharbambar, I appreciate your videos, they will be of great help to those starting off in this hobby and hopefully keep them for making expensive errors going forward. Good sound doesn’t need be complicated or expensive, unless your goal is to impress others with overpriced audio gear.
Thank you for sharing your experience.
I have had kef ls50w for 3 months . I dont like it and want to try ls50 passive. Do I also need a receiver with Peachtree Decco125 ?
Thank you :)
Thank you for sharing.
Having owned the LS50 Wireless (twice) and still owning the LS50 passives paired with Rega Elex-r, RME ADI-2 FS and Auralic Aries mini I have the exact same experience as stated in the video clip. To me, listening to the LS50 Wireless is a fantastic sound experience, whereas the passives convey a more musical experience. Good video, and glad to hear someone who dare speak their own mind!
Good bless you Tharbamar for being honest! I almost blindfoldedly sold my passives based on rave reviews of the wireless. But my second hearing of the actives definitelly sounded less transparent or maybe even more laidback with missing mids magic of the passives. I decided to call everything off. I’m just gonna have to make the effort to find a more competent amp to maximize LS50 goodness.
I have both versions and use them as my computer audio systems. I drive the passive LS50 with an Avantone Pro CLA200 A/B studio power amplifier (200 wpc) and a Topping D90 dac. I also use an SVS SB2000 subwoofer with both speakers. Maybe I’m not enough of an audiophile to pick up any differences in sound between the two systems. I can say they both sound great for music and games. I’m going to sell the wireless because KEF warranties the internal electronics for only 1 year. Lots of owners have needed service on the amps and I’m concerned about problems after that 1 year time frame is over.
I think the difference came from the amplifier you use with LS50 is A/B class but LS50 wireless use D-class build in amp. Because both loundspeaker use the same driver it’s impossible to different the sound especially the mid and high. For the bass may be different because of weigh or volume side of the cabinet..(just my opinion)
All that I can tell you is that I’ve been waiting for this review for the last two weeks. Please take that as a complement😇😄😜
Nice review :) just bought a pair of the actives used, really like them. Do you use a sub? I can't have a sub due to neighbours, so the actives seemed like a better option for me
LS50s are on sale for 899 CDN at visions electronics, super pleased bought a pair
Hey man its been at least 9 months now that you've owned your KEF LS50s... are you still happy with them? would you recommend them/buy them again? I'm a fellow Canadian debating grabbing myself a pair for a couple months now to upgrade from my KEF Q100s.
Also what are you powering your LS50s with?
ls50 give a very analytical dry, dead sound, like glass sound. In addition, they need a very good expensive amplifier. LS 50w has a more natural sound, more bass, the sound is much more serious and more natural than the passive version. Disagree radically with this video.
Completely agree. The powered are much better
The real estate is not more inside the wireless, The wireless is full of electronics.
Are the LS 50 wireless ii worth the price for near field? And is the SPL high enough for a near field application for high energy electronic music?
Yes it will work for near field, SPL should be more than enough unless you want to play extremely loud but you will need a sub. Thanks
With all due respect, Mr. “T,” I simply don’t understand the logic of comparing the two without telling your large, appreciative audience *what* system is powering your passive speakers from the *start* of the review, as that will nearly completely define the sound. I am glad you made the review, but I will have to note down each of the components you show in the photo late in the video to begin to understand the system powering the passives, then re-view your video again, to understand how *your particular system* compares to the LS50 Wireless; I will not be able to afford a 5K$ system any time soon, so getting the Wireless Active system on sale for 1600+tax is the best sound I can afford, for the time being. Peace Be With You, T
Please see video description for details, thanks
Great review. By the way, class D amplifiers are not digital amps "no such thing"
Well actually just saw the whole video really appreciate your comments! You Do not usually hear that from most reviewers! Honesty!✌️👍👌😎
Thanks for the review, great channel!
Hi, thx for the review. I'm not quite sure about the cabinet deepness. You have to take into account the plate amps (the active amplification) for each speaker - each amplifier has its own power supply. So the internal volume on the active speakers might be even smaller than the passive. The deeper bass (on lower volumes) is the work of the DSP
Actually it's bigger, you can see the schematics here bit.ly/2GRGzr1,
it extends to the back about over an inch for amps & DAC etc., acoustically having chamber behind the speaker cabinet can help a bit in bass response but mostly bass is coming from class-d amp.
@@Tharbamar hello tharbamar? I watched your review on the ls 50 comparison, with q acoustics 3020 speaker. My question is, how does the ls50 compare, to the q acoustics 3020 volume spl wise?.
Hi Daniel, Q3020 will play a little louder at same volume control set but It has much less Bass response in my room compare to LS50, thanks
@@Tharbamar ok, i see the sensitivity on the ls 50 specs is lower, so I understand that. but giving the ls50 full wattage, does it have the potential to get louder, at reference volumes, vs q acoustics at reference volumes?
It will be depending on what type of music but Yes if the amp is stable down to 4Ω load with good power supply otherwise it will run out of composure.
With the right amp, like a Line Magnetic 508ia, there’s no need to go back and forth to find that the LS50 is quite a bit better than the active version.
I agreed.
I have to disagree with you on this one. ls50 has more higher frequency extension and sounds more airy or open, but more fatiguing and analytical than the ls50w. ls50w is much fuller and natural and better bass. The wireless can easily best the passive one with most $1000 amp. Also the class D amp is not equal to "digital".
Man there is any chance that u can. Review the Buchardt speakers? ?
Another excellent review from you. Thanks!
Looks like the only people who prefer the passive versions are the ones who already own them, or those folks who have 20g’s in front end gear. Interesting.
what's better sVs prime pinnacle tower or an ls50 speakers
Hello, Does the Kef LS50W have a subwoofer output? How can I hook up two subwoofers to these KEF LS50W speakers? Could this system handle dual subwoofers? Thanks.
It only has one sub out, may be you can use Y rca splitters.
@@Tharbamar Thanks. I will most probably get the LS50 and not the wireless. Read too many complaints on the LS50W.
What is your honest opinion on using a Parasound A21+ Amplifier and P6 pre- amplifier with these Kef LS50 speakers and dual SVS SB-2000 subwoofers?
Hello, right now these speaker can be get it at lower price, base on you experience., which one better to go Kef LS50 or Kef R300 ?
R300 heaps better
Depends on your purpose. If for a desk and near field listening, the LS50 will outperform R300. If for a room, go with the R300.
I'm skeptical, but curious. I'll give them a shot. @@9XThunder
really surprised I could tell B was better.
Did you try with any other amps, or just Halo and San?
Also had Halo P5 & Crown XLS 1502 combo in between, which is very much like Active LS50 Sound. My next stop might be Tubes.
love your reviews my friend! super informative
I agree with your impressions! from the sound demos the actives sound more Digital ; less natural than the Passives.
the LS50 passive version is better. I also have both and end up keeping the passive version. It goes very well with Classe and Mcintosh amplifiers.
The active version sounds very hi-fi (good imaging, sharper treble, and tighter bass), but lack the organic lush and realistic presentation of the passive version
Great choice, I sold my Active last week and kept the Passive LS50 as well.
" with Classe and Mcintosh amplifiers" this is the case. Someone who buy active version dont want to overprice pay for separate high-end amp + speakers + cables + dac/cd. How much cost Msintosh amp to make LS50 alive? :) Yes you can do passive sound as good as wireless or even better, but it cost money...
I’m going to get klipsch RF-3 this all seems to be a little bit romper room. Have monitor audio 100 gold and they have no soul so to speak! Back to Crutchfield they go which is great by the way! I believe you have the big JBL‘s which seem awesome. I know people have to deal with this size speaker but if you can definitely worth it to move up in size. I have a feeling that the new reference series is going to have an amplifier and dac in the very near future as an upmarket product from the LS series!
Very informative review! Thank you.
great review ... can you please review Peachtree amps Nova 1500 with ls50 and share ur opinion
I have something in the work it's not as powerful as Nova 150 but it's Class D amp as well.
Hilarious! Love your review, bro.
Incorrect. The active version does much more than just simulate a loudness button. The drivers are time aligned, also crossover frequency is perfectly stable...... This is better for imaging. Passive crossovers have a margin of error, but what's worse is that the crossover points are unstable as heat rises. Basically they change with amplitude.
So in order to run the non wireless types, you will need to get an Amp, a Dac and a Stremer ?
Yes.
How it compares to bowers and wilkins 606
Please see my review of 607 speakers, thanks
@@Tharbamar can u please make a video to compare sound quality between the kef ls50 wireless and b&w 607
@@Tharbamar do u know any good budget amp to go with 607
Just watched the whole video great job very informative still going with the klipsch!😜
intresting . video . very good video . thank u
Before doing all the test could you please install some acoustic foam in that room? Gosh its very echoing there
My bad I was using on camera microphone.
Invest in a proper mic please. Listening on max but sounds like you're underwater.
I am really enjoying your videos. I would love to try out the wireless version.Check out my system videos.
