In this video, expenses and income for growing super Raya has been given to compare them with each other so that we can understand the actual status of expenses and income for both of these crops. Pakistan imports 70% of its edible oil from abroad. This portion consists of 80% from Indonesia and 20% from Malaysia. But during current prevailing global conditions, Indonesia has banned its edible oil export to other countries that is a big blow to the imports of edible oil by Pakistan. In this scenario, prices of palm oil are increasing not only in Pakistan but all over the world. We should adopt ways to grow more edible oil producing crops in our beloved country Pakistan to deal with this shortage.
Expenses and income for growing wheat and canola crops have been given to compare them with each other so that we can understand the actual status of expenses and income for both of these crops. It includes the cost of seed, fertilizers, pesticides and other expenses and at the end, total expenditures and our profit.
Raya is heat tolerant and relatively hardy crop with respect to insects, diseases and cultivation practices. It is relatively easy crop and farmers of rain fed areas, having fellow land during September, light soil regions such as Thal area, farmers of rain fed area and new or raw handed farmer should prefer Raya cultivation. However, those farmers who want to plant maize or other spring crop after this, then AARI canola is best option under the prevailing conditions of non-availability of imported seeds of mustard and canola. Professional growers who are well aware and also can manage insects and shattering behavior of canola, who are not in hurry to plant next crop and farmers of cool soil and climatic conditions should prefer super or sandal canola.
AARI canola is a relatively short durational variety. Under the scenario of changing climate it has become very difficult to plant it in early September. It may be cultivated at the end of September, harvested in February and spring maize or cotton crop may easily be planted well in time. Yield potential of this variety is 20-25 maunds per acre. It is advised that it may be sown during 2nd fortnight of September. Fertilizer, irrigation, weed control, harvesting, cost of production has also been summarized in this video.
