I didn't mention the title but the Liars Paradox is pretty interesting. The face off with Gator makes you wonder about what happened to his mother. If Roy's first wife disappeared that seems like a way to drive a wedge between Gator and Roy. A lot has happened so I'm excited to see where things go from here. Let me know what you think.
This episode establishes the main theme of this season: perception of reality. One person’s reality is the same as another but can be very different based on their perception. Wayne’s shock changing his perception of reality, Loranne’s view on debt collection, Dot constantly insisting on a different story than what has happened and Roy changing the reality of the shooting are great examples.
I don't think Munch wants Pancakes! What Munch realized is that the enemy of his enemy is his friend. In the first scene, just before Munch abducted Dot, she was making pancakes....Munch realized that he needs to seek out Dot to help him get Tillman. That's what he means by wanting Pancakes.
Man I'm grateful for this channel and your excellent videos. It's great to have a place to nerd out on shows that I love but not a lot of my friends are watching. 🙂Not sure if you talked about Fargo Season 5 and Wizard of Oz connections? Dot/ Dorothy. Judy Gumm Garland was born in Minnesota. Black and White transition to color in episode 1 seemed pretty Ozish. If you did please send me the link!! I'm sure there are others. Not sure what they mean though.🤔 Thank you.
I wonder if the 3 lines in the symbol are a reference to Roy's wives. the first with the half circle under the line could mean "under ground" while the half circle above the 3d is "above ground" and the one in the middle is connected to the first via the line that Munch has created. Munch has created a path from Linda's ghost to Dot.
Quick theory of the symbol Munch leaves on the bedroom wall: i think at least the sticks part of the symbol are the three crosses during Jesus' crucifixion. Perhaps Munch, having taken on the rich guys' spiritual debt during that ceremony 500 years ago, is now in spiritual lineage with one or both of the thieves crucified with Jesus. This could invoke the same themes of carrying debt, deservedly or not.
Joe Keery just brings that nail bat along with him everywhere, he almost quit Free Guy when Ryan Reynolds told him he couldn’t use it, (true story that I made up)
The powerful mum is in the same room w/Roy in the trailer for next week. That says that Dot/Nadine’s backstory comes out. It had to as Dot can’t keep thing going w/o help & lying to everyone. I hope the male cop gets to save her. the lady cop will be compromised by her loser, golf loving, hubby’s debt & will face a moral decision between her job & protecting her loser/hubby. I kinda don’t see him surviving the season.
Theory on the ruins on the wall... it's Tillman's family. The three vertical lines are Tillman's kids, the horizontal line is the father (Roy), & the diagonal line is the Mrs. (connected to the Twins... but NOT Gator!).
I need help understanding what happened in the opening. I don't like scenes shot in the dark. So, Gator and three henchmen enter the house. One guy gets hit with the sledgehammer. Another gets hit by the attic stairs, followed by a blow to the head with the toilet cover. I don't know what happened to the third guy. Were there gun shots at some point? How many people died, and did they leave one guy in the burning house? Did they get the guy under the attic stairs out? I really had trouble following what was going on in the dark.
No one died. When they get back to ND you see them all get out of the van. I guess the one who got hit by the sledgehammer was just unconscious. They dragged him out when they left. The other one was the woman. Dot wrapped her up with the shower curtain and threw her down the stairs. The only shots were when she fired into the staircase that didn't hit anyone.
You know your TV has brightness and contrast options and most allow you to save different settings themes for easy transfer for what's necessary. They attacked at night, there's no point if you light it up, defeats the entire purpose of attacking at night and Dot to even things up since she's outnumbered and half the size of 3 of 4 coming would make sure every light was out for real People kill me crying about authenticity Are they supposed to film that scene under stage lights? It would have absolutely destroyed the illusion and taken anyone with a brain completely outta the show, from the opening scene. I'm sorry it's dark at night but we didn't invent nature
Seems like this series is obsessed with showing men as Alpha criminals or Beta extremes. Why is Wayne favorite character? He hid in the attic with his daughter while his wife defended their home against multiple intruders.
I mentioned that last week. She left Roy about 9 years ago and Scotty is 9. It would require Wayne not really thinking too hard about the pregnancy/birth, but it's certainly possible.
Definitely not a fan of the supernatural part of the storyline. I could look away with S2's flying saucer and the bowling alley in S3, but a 500 year old sin eater? This dude apparently finds the way to eternal life and he still needs to kidnap people for money to pay the bills? Makes no sense.
Agreed. I know Fargo likes exaggerated characters but the characterizations have been getting progressively more implausible, cartoon-like, during the course of this season. Went back to season 1 and it's like comparing a masterpiece to daytime tv. It's a shame, the actors are mainly good.
Great review, Mr. Peppers. Power is turned off, yet the husband receives a serious electrical shock, and the house catches fire. Did i catch a hole in the writing? It could have and should have shown only partial power, which was turned off if that's the escape pod.
So, my interpretation of the symbol on the wall could be wrong, but I see the 3 crosses of Jesus and the two thieves. The half circles and the line could represent Jesus' salvation through his own sacrifice, but also his judgement since one thief accepted Christ as his Savior and the other didn't. Of course, the theme of this scene being about debts, Christians believe that Jesus' death on the cross paid the debts of all our sins.
I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks this season is super unrealistic. A woman that weighs….hmmm let’s say 100 pounds soaking wet is beating up grown ass men with no weapons. This will be my last season watching this show….
The child named Scotty, Dot sitting on the couch knitting, the kidnapper at the screen door, the guy wanting pancakes are a few that stood out to me...
I really wanted to like this season, but each season seems a bit worse than the previous one. Season 1 was the best, I think. Season 2 was pretty good, but things went downhill from there.
I just rewatched Season 1. It is very good. Looking forward to rewatching the others to see how I will rank them. This season, the show is still setting things up, but it is at a fork/road. I hope it keeps getting better.
I dont understand why they had to make this Munch character a five hundred year old sin eater ..that took me out ..the story starts out interesting, I'm invested, then they throw in this weird supernatural shit 🙄
I consider Fargo seasons 1 and 2 to be in the top ten of TV productions of all time. So, I am so disappointed with what Noah Hawley has given us in Season 5. Where is the Fargo humor? The acting, other than Juno Temple, is second rate. Jon Hamm cannot pull off that role - he is cringe worthy. And every scene with the sin-eater is revolting. I was so looking forward to this season, and now each new episode just gets worse. Bummer.

Dots a terrible person. Their is no excuse for putting the people you supposedly love in danger. Not only does she refuse to be honest with rhem about the threat that has come to their home twice now, they're are only threatened bc of her but she actually manipulates them into thinking what they're seeing and experiencing isn't actually happening. This is true of the vast majority in the Fargo universe. She's much more like Jerry Lundegaard than his wife in the Coen film, their marriage is a complete inverse of the Lundegaard one (it's Wayne who is naive and helpless, he has the rich family who dislikes his wife etc). Noah Hawley gives us compelling villains though, even when they're terrible.

@@PetePeppers1 Season 3 is my favourite, Varga is the best villain in the whole series. Any guesses on how season 5 will connect to the others?
Munch's freedom speech felt like pure Fargo. To finish it off asking for pancakes from the petrified woman was the cherry on top.

Roy (King) and the Queen of debt speak like they're on a different planet, which royalty kind of are and Munch's monologue reaffirms.
