Solid presentation of critical info. Wireless thermometers have been the bane of my existence in the context of accuracy and convenience mix. Quite curious to see what else information-wise unfolds on these. Thanks!
I got a meater for Christmas years ago but it never showed up. I eventually got my money back. I have a thermapen that I love. This might be right up my alley
Finally. I’m glad to see they are not including an ambient sensor. The ambient temperature on the MEATER is so god awful. They could get rid of that and drop the price $30, and it would be much better value for the money. I like the four different internal readings
temperatures so you don’t have to arse around with your phone all the time. Or maybe a deluxe version of the gateway based on the signals unit might come out sometime to make it truly standalone
My problem is only one external temp probe...I like to have at least 4 sensors if not more for my grill..front, back, side, and near smoke exit. Would also like for top shelf..this us more important because I can always stick a probe into meat..
They make other products you can use to do that. They weren’t trying to address your entire grill as much as they were trying to address a wireless meat probe and the temp directly adjacent to your meat, in order to fill a void ala what meater and others do by putting an ambient probe in the back end. As mentioned in the vid, a single all-in-one isn’t as good as multiple dedicated items so they went the route of giving you both. If you want to measure 4 points (or more) on your grill at any given time, get a signals or a smoke and buy some extra air temp probes. They have lots of products that accept wired air probes with varying cost and number of ports. Those, however, are not what THIS product was most specifically designed for.
Now all we need is a wireless ambient temperature sensor and more importantly a wireless billows with a built in and user exchangeable/serviceable rechargeable battery pack. Fingers crossed 🤞
So if the gateway is sending the data to the cloud, then this will only function if you're connected to WiFi on one way or another? So if you were boondock camping, this would be a no-go?
Does their app have predictive technology like the Combustion probe does? I have the Combustion and like that feature a lot...but the reliability of the Combustion is pretty bad...constantly disconnecting even with phone literally right next to it. And as mentioned...the ambient reading is just useless so a wasted feature. I had the Meater and it was just garbage...very inaccurate.
I’d like to guess that probe with gateway is going to be 189.99 and the probe alone is going to be 127.99 I have no reason for this, just seems like a good estimate
As much as I love my Thermapen thermometer, this just looks like an advertorial for Thermoworks? There's no 'hands on' experience or testing, I've got a system with a five sensor probe that is temp certified by the maker. This isn't new, my old Thermapen has the same,
If you think you will successfully compete in this field without ambient temp info , you are delusional. Although ambient accuracy on Meater , for example , is only iffy in the first few minutes of t 25:35 he cook , after that it's largely reliable, and based on videos testing the other leading brands , I believe the same is true of them . Requiring a separate component for ambient measurement is a non starter as far as I'm concerned.
All three are "radio frequencies", but Bluetooth and WiFi both send at higher actual frequencies than RF, which is part of the reason they penetrate less and need more power to transmit. RF frequencies can be measured in MHz, but Bluetooth and WiFi are both GHz. So the analogy is only flawed if you're being pedantic about what RF means.
Not just that, they all operate in the same band of frequencies (Ultra High Frequency or UHF). The only difference is that the lower end of that band has slightly better performance for certain criteria and the higher end is better in others. Generally I think the low end winds up having better range on the ground and is more tolerant of obstacles.
Video starts at the 14 minute mark
Thank you!
Seriously? I'd say get this guy to the top, but he already is
Wow! Excellent and informative presentation. Thank you. Can't wait for the RFX.

Since the base and gateway will sit out by the grill is it waterproof in case it starts.raining during your cook?

Phones definitely operate on RF; it’s at a different frequency. You will go higher frequency for penetration or lower frequency for distance
100% correct

Well that would explain the Harry Soo promos and repairs of his Mk1 at the shop a little while ago. Still no mention on their site though

Great question. I’ll have to check on that once it’s released.
It also has Bluetooth connectivity to the phone for cooking offline
When will they be available to purchase ??
Over the summer hopefully
Says coming 7/31
Pre-order open, ships in September.
@@logikgr ordered my starter kit and and One extra probe. They say it should ship 9/10.
You are right, wireless technology. Is difficult to use. I hope this is the answer to competition.
How are you doing today I love your videos 💞
Thanks. I appreciate that so much.

@@Girlscangrill I’ve been thinking about this some more.
$289.99 with gateway seems more realistic.
Sticking with probe cost
But you get free jelly beans so....
@@Gapines23 worth it!
Available for pre-order now on their website. $159 for probe and gateway which also includes an ambient temp sensor. Decent price I think.

Alton brown got old. Nice guy though.
You are getting old too
1 hour for the probe battery transmission at 1 second? That’s horrible!
@@coreywalker2020 getting a read every second isn’t really needed, but it’s offered. Here’s the variance.
Transmissions
1s: 1 Hour
5s: 7 Hours
10s: 10 Hours
30s: 25 Hours
60s: 50 Hours
Corey you don't use probes for seconds readings
As you approach your desired temp, polling rate can be increased to ensure you pull from heat at just the right time.
Maybe for high heat searing to not over cook and get it nearly perfect - but than around an hour should be plenty
