Brought tears to my eyes when he got that championship, nobody ever deserved it more. If you read this Julius, thank you for being the classiest role model a young child like i was, and every Philadelphia kid was, could ever look up to. You really have no idea how hugely loved this individual was here in Philly!

Dr J was not just the ultimate talent but also a man who elevated and transcended the sport he played. I have the greatest respect and affection for Dr J, because of his spectacular talent, his class and his cool. He was the great innovator and stylist--athleticism and flash to the utmost. I'm glad the program made a point of saying it was Dr J who invented moves and transformed the game, the player who was the inspiration and model for Michael Jordan.

People don't realise how different he was for his time. When the Sixers got him my first reaction was "Why us?" It was him, then the rest of people playing basketball. It was too hard to believe we got "that guy". He had an artistry about him you see everywhere now. Not then. He was like a mythical figure because you only saw clips of him during a sports show doing things you've never seen. ABA games didn't get much tv coverage because it was perceived as minor league. George McGinnis and that release on the way down. Zinkoff. Dancing Barry. 1 2 345 Sixers 10 9 8 76ers. He had two children with other women while he was married. The dunk I'll always remember is the one in the NBA vs ABA All star game. He took off from a half step behind the free throw line, glided toward the rim and flushed it! To everyone's amazement! Nobody's ever done that since. Not in a game...

Saw him take a dollar bill off the top of a wooden backboard at the CYP High School Allstars Tournament in Port Chester NY just outside NYC at halftime. Later met him when GM for the Magic. Asked him if he remembered that tournament and he said yes and taking dollar bills off the blackboards...there's Michael but there's Dr. J...in his prime I would pick him over Jordan in a pick-up game any day

I try not to have too many regrets, but a glaring one is that I never witnessed him play in an ABA/NBA game in person, that will haunt me forever. I live in Atlanta, as he does, and I hope to be given the pleasure of just shaking his hand and meeting him one day, before he's gone, or I'm gone, that would ease the regret of not seeing him play in person some, a class individual, to say the least...

Now I have nothing but much love and great respect for Julius Erving aka the doctor him and his brother Marvin like family from prospect School South Baptist Church the projects Campbell Park and everybody in Hempstead one big family but there was another person that I adored also his name was Al Williams all New York I believe that was two years running and the greatest high school basketball game I ever saw was when Roosevelt and Hempstead both 8 and 0at that time Julius didn't even start they and players that averaged at least six 6 and up players that look like they should have been in the NBA but as fate would have it the rough riders got roughed up and they lost second Time around we lost by 7 I believe in overtime at Roosevelt high 🏫
