Greatest ever period. Like others King of his Era in his prime. Saw him take a dollar bill off the top of a wooden backboard at the CYP High School Allstars Tournament in Port Chester NY just outside NYC at halftime. Later met him when GM for the Magic. Asked him if he remembered that tournament and he said yes and taking dollar bills off the blackboards...there's Michael but there's Dr. J...in his prime I would pick him over Jordan in a pick-up game any day
Many a Sunday I jumped of the couch in our little apartment, onto the coffee table and screamed at the top of my lungs "THE DOCTOR!!!! " as he went to the hole and did a Tomahawk Dunk and postured someone.
My first ever favorite NBA team was the 76'ers with the Doctor. I wasn't even interested in basketball before that. I'd heard about him in the ABA but seeing is believing.
I remember playing in the schoolyard at PS127 in East Elmhurst Queen and copying the dunks of Doctor J. Thehoop was an inverted garbage can and was about 6 feet. high so it made the dunking easier.
I try not to have too many regrets, but a glaring one is that I never witnessed him play in an ABA/NBA game in person, that will haunt me forever. I live in Atlanta, as he does, and I hope to be given the pleasure of just shaking his hand and meeting him one day, before he's gone, or I'm gone, that would ease the regret of not seeing him play in person some, a class individual, to say the least...
It happened, God is good, I got to meet Julius "Dr.J" Erving today, June 25, 2018, it was the thrill of a lifetime. He was as classy as I thought he would be, and we talked a little about The Big 3, where he's a coach, I'll definitely be watching more games from that league now...
I played a pickup game against him not knowing who he was. Later in life I had to go to Boston for a black tie dinner and he was coming from practice and he saw me and said, I remember you I busted you for 44 points back in Springfield. Everybody broke out laughing laughing 😂. I will never forget that moment. That was my 15 minutes of fame.

My favourite player of all time
Kurt Adams i love dr.j fancy moves to the basket he like to palm the basketball
@@lloydkline7245 yes indeed brother . GREAT PLAYER
Always love you, Dr!!!
Cool that they put Philly's Grover Washington music in the video. Classy.
Without a doubt the greatest of the greats!
When you are recognized by your peers as "THE DOCTOR". Take a step back all you regulars.
Mannnn Dr. J was doing moves that we’ve never ever seen before, he is arguably the greatest Small Forward to ever have played the game
My regret is that I wanted to see what the ABA champions NY Nets could have done in the NBA has they kept Dr J
My first ever favorite NBA team was the 76'ers with the Doctor. I wasn't even interested in basketball before that. I'd heard about him in the ABA but seeing is believing.
I remember that Dr J dunk on Bill Walton it was a poster in my bed room and we had it on a tape Julia's the Dr Erving the Doc will dunk on anybody
Too bad they lost that series ....
For me personally he's the best.
This guy Dr. J was my first sports hero. The entire fast-break flashy game of the 80s was spawned from him. He made everyone want to play basketball.
Love the cool red, white and blue ball the ABA used. Julius was king back then.
My very favorite athlete of all time. Did it all with grace, even when he was dunking on damn near everyone lol. I love DR. J!!
349 dislikes they must be Celtics fans.. Dr.J was just smooth. Real class true trailbrazer.
I remember playing in the schoolyard at PS127 in East Elmhurst Queen and copying the dunks of Doctor J. Thehoop was an inverted garbage can and was about 6 feet. high so it made the dunking easier.
3 the
I enjoyed his game alot. Then there is the name at the top for real- Kareem. compare numbers and other aspects. Many great players.
Paul Fullilove When you get toasted by someone of his caliber, it's not embarrassing, just get in line with the rest of the cats who can claim the same thing...
S. Chris T. UI hi uuhuyuuuhhhjuuuiu
Now I have nothing but much love and great respect for Julius Erving aka the doctor him and his brother Marvin like family from prospect School South Baptist Church the projects Campbell Park and everybody in Hempstead one big family but there was another person that I adored also his name was Al Williams all New York I believe that was two years running and the greatest high school basketball game I ever saw was when Roosevelt and Hempstead both 8 and 0at that time Julius didn't even start they and players that averaged at least six 6 and up players that look like they should have been in the NBA but as fate would have it the rough riders got roughed up and they lost second Time around we lost by 7 I believe in overtime at Roosevelt high 🏫
