    In this video I explain how the ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) Part 2 test works, the part 2 is to test you ability to drive to a high standard so you can then pass on these skills to your learners. The footage was filmed in Redhill which is one of the part 2 test centres in the south, the other being Guildford test centre.
    Format of the test:
    - Lasts 1 hour
    - 5 show me tell me questions (www.gov.uk/gov...)
    - 2 reversing manoeuvres (forward bay park, reverse bay park, parallel park, pull up on the right and reverse 2 car lengths)
    - possibly an emergency stop (1/3 tests)
    - 20 minutes of independent driving (4/5 test follow sat nav, 1/5 test follow road signs).
    To pass you are allowed no more than 6 driver faults and no serious or dangerous faults.
    You only have 3 attempts to pass, so make sure you are 100% ready before attempting it, so make sure you know the required standard and being able to drive to it consistently.
    I create videos with tips and tricks to help you along side your driving lessons when learning to drive and ultimately to pass your UK driving test!
    Even if you have passed your driving test you never stop learning, see what you can learn from my videos.

    The ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) part 2 test requires a high standard of driving, and as such a concrete knowledge of the 'rules' and procedures in the Highway Code, Driving: The Essential Skills and Know Your Traffic Signs. The theory of this should have all be revised when taking your part 1 test.
    Remember, you are not looking to drive like a learner to how your instructor taught you 30 years ago, you need to drive like an experienced driver demonstrating that concrete knowledge of all the DVSA publications listed above.
    If you have any questions about anything mentioned on this video please leave a comment. You want to go into the part 2 test knowing EXACTLY what the criteria is, you can then pass this onto you learner drivers.
    Make sure you have also checked out the gov.uk website to further clarify exactly how the part 2 test works
    www.gov.uk/adi-part-2-test
    Preparation is the key, fail to prepare = prepare to fail.

    Hi, I wanted to let you know that I passed my ADI part 2. So happy! Thank you for your brilliant help. When I was told to pull up on my test I found some of the areas I was told to pull up over were quite sudden and not an area I would have stopped at. Still, I probably was too nervous.I’m ready to get my pink license but not sure if I should go on a franchise.

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  3 года назад +1

      Well done on passing your part 2! Glad my videos helped.
      On a test, including L-test, the examiners will ask you to pull up on roads you would not tend to, not that would be a dangerous road, but possibly inconveniencing other traffic, especially as you left the car there. They do this to make sure you are move off and stop safely in 'flowing traffic'.
      If my learners get nervous of doing this I say pretend you are just quickly dropping off a passenger, you are not staying there. Also it is the examiner decision to ask you to pull up on the left, so if anyone gets annoyed it is the examiner responsibility.

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  3 года назад +2

      Have you done 40 hours of part 3 training with an ADI? As that is what you need to go onto the pink licence.
      That ADI / driving school should then be able to sponsor you on the pink licence, if it is with a driving school it is likely they will only sponsor you if you take out a franchise.
      Of course remember you don't have to do a pink licence, you could do lessons for free to get practice and then pay a local trainer to sit in the back of some of your lessons and give you feedback.

      @@UKDrivingTest Yes. Done the training with BSM so not sure what would be best. They have offered me a good deal and probably for the first 2 years it will be a good option for me. Experience and support will secure work.

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  3 года назад +1

      ok, yes it can be a tricky decision.
      As you say on the franchise you will get the support and a car, so all quite a nice easy introduction to being a driving instructor, so you can then focus on delivering your lessons and developing your skills. But then disadvantage is the 2 year contract.
      I personally did a franchise when I started, it was pretty vital as it gave my the experienced and support to get me started. But it was not a 2 year franchise, it was 12 months,
      I think the BSM franchise is 2 years as it is a cheaper weekly fee than others, for example in 2012 I was paying RED £200 a week on the 12 month franchise, but I believe the 2 year BSM franchise is £169 (or is it £159?) per month.
      I did not want to say at first but I am on a franchise will the AA, you may know AA | BSM is the same company. I don't work for them however, just on a franchise, so just giving my personal opinions, you need to do what is right for you.
      I assume you did the BSM VR course? If so that is more tailored towards doing a franchise as the training is quite intensive and no practice with real pupils, all role play.
      Are you on the Facebook group? perhaps you could put a post on it and as for other trainees opinions?

    Hi, I love your videos. Love the way you explain things. Keeping it simple and straight forward. I’ve my part 2 exam coming up soon. The only thing which I’m not feeling really at ease is following the road signs. I think I will be too much focusing on the road/speed/ lane discipline/gap from front car that I may miss road signs. I know it’s not a major in L test but is it a problem in adi 2 test if you keep on missing signs on independent driving. Love for you to make a video on that! Thanks

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  Год назад +1

      The L test and part 2 are similar in many ways, including its not a problem if you miss a sign and need to ask or if you go the wrong way, as long as it's done safely.
      However it is of course a vital skill as an instructor to be able to multi task and be able to read the signs whilst being aware of other hazards, the speed etc etc.

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  11 месяцев назад

      If the examiner says "don't worry about blocking the driveway" then don't worry, sometimes they ask you to block a driveway to demonstrate an angled start, i.e. pulling away from behind a parked vehicle.
      If they ask "I would like you to find a safe place to pull up on the left" then that's different, they are assessing your understanding of a safe place, so avoid blocking a driveway, at least 10 meters from junctions, not close to a blind bend or hill etc.

    On the first pull up on the left. You didn't signal because no one would benefit from your signal. If you were to signal after doing your mirror checks. Will this count against you ?

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  Год назад +1

      For a L test, it would not count against you as long as the signal was mistimed or misleading.
      For a part 2, as it’s marked at a higher standard, some examiners might fault you quoting the Highway Code says to signal of necessary when pulling up on the left, however this depends on the examiners view and discretion. But regardless you should be following the Highway Code.

    A good instructional video. At 5:43 it appears that the vehicle is travelling a bit too quick past lines of parked cars. If little Johnny, who is too short to be seen, chases his escapee ball out into the road(I was that boy once) - it appears doubtful you could stop in time, just based purely on the speed things appear to be going by in the camera. Part 2 ADI exam. No1 driving rule. Always driving at a speed where you are able to STOP in the distance you can see to be clear ahead - AND TO THE SIDES (BOTH SIDES). People completely forget that less obvious hidden zone masked by obstructions. It has saved me an accident countless times in 40 years driving. Hope this helps someone and saves lives - like mine was saved by an alert driver when I was 9 or 10 years old.

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  2 года назад

      I generally go with if you can keep 3 foot from the parked vehicle then drive up to 30mph, if you can only keep 2 foot drive up to 20mph, if you can only keep 1 foot drive up to 10mph. If you can't keep 1 foot don't go through.
      In this scenario I was about 2 feet from the parked vehicles and was doing 18mph, as per speedo.
      I was also assess the road and you could see fairly well around the parked vehicles, and there was no activity around any of them. If view around the parked vehicle was restricted, such as a parked van, or if there was more actively in the area, such as pedestrians on the footpath then I would have adjusted my speed accordingly.
      It is a good point you make, as it is true many drivers do not look for, anticipate, the hazards they CAN'T see, often only reacting when they see it, by which time it could be too late.

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  Год назад

      You can use any technology on a modern car, often it is encouraged! Such as speed limiters and cruise control which examiner love to see used.
      HOWEVER, you MUST NOT rely on the tech. for example:
      - reversing camera / parking sensors, don't just stare at them, still do all round observations into blindspot areas.
      - speed limiter / cruise control, don't assume it will keep you at correct speed, hill might make you go too fast.
      - traffic sign cameras/ sensors, don't assume it will read the signs correctly and always display correct speed limit on your dashboard.
      - blind spot sensors, don't assume the sensors will sense something, you will still need to check your blindspot or do a sideways glance as normal.

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  2 года назад

      ADI Part 2:
      The test of your driving ability which forms part of the process to become an approved driving instructor (ADI). It lasts 1 hour and includes 2 manoeuvres and possibly an emergency stop. As you will be a fully qualified driver when taking it you might be asked to go onto motorways. Also as you are training to be a instructor the test is marked to a HIGHER standard than the learners test.
      Extended Driving Test:
      A test a provisional licence holder needs to take following the decision of a judge, perhaps they use to have a licence but got banned for dangerous driving of some sort. Not everyone who loses their licence needs to take this test, it depends on what the judge decides. It is mark at the SAME standard as the learner test, however it lasts 70 minutes (standard L test lasts 40 mins). It will still be one reversing manoeuvre and possibly an emergency stop, as per normal L test. It is just more demanding as it is quite a long time to drive and the examiner may make the route quite varied to really see if you are a calm and competent driver.

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  Год назад

      Basically as long as the car is road legal and would pass an MOT it would be acceptable.
      Only cars which would not be accepted is with poor / no rear view visibility, such as panelled vans and some convertibles, this is because firstly the examiner needs to see behind form the passengers seat using an interior mirror, also they need to assess you ability to make rear view observations when driving and reversing.
      Given the above tinted windows should not be an issue, providing you can still see out of them from inside the car, also providing they are only tinted on rear / back windows as per the law.
      Dual controls are only a legal requirement for tests if the car is a hire car. Duals are not even legally needed for learner test, or for driving lessons, but of course they are strongly advisable for learners, but you are not a learner.

      The part 2 is basically your ability to demonstrates your part 1 knowledge, so everything you learn in your part 1 should be transferred into your driving, for example block gear changing, avoid coasting, mirrors, blindspots etc etc. But mainly it is all about showing EXCELLENT observations skills, looking far ahead, as far as you eye can see and scanning and planning constantly, not just at dynamic (moving) hazards, which generally experienced drivers are pretty good at, but also fixed hazards such as road signs, traffic lights, road markings etc. things that experienced drivers tend to be less good at due to becoming over reliant on local knowledge, so not 'reading the road' and planning.
      Also a big thing is you should be driving like an experienced driver, NOT a learner, so if on a motorway get up to 70mph and overtake when safe to do so, make as much progress as safe to on rural roads as well. All this will 'make up' for keeping to the speed limits in the urban roads.
      The books you should base your part 1 & part 2 on are: The Highway Code, Know Your Traffic Signs and Driving: The Essential Skills. Hopefully you have a copy of all three?
      Also look at these:
      Driving examiners guidelines (DT1): www.gov.uk/guidance/guidance-for-driving-examiners-carrying-out-driving-tests-dt1
      Driving examiner guidance for ADI tests (ADI1):
      www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-for-driving-examiners-carrying-out-instructor-tests-adi1
      National Standards (You should be doing everything in this document, it basically reflects the info in other DVSA books):

    Extremely difficult to pass

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  Год назад +2

      If you put the effort in to prepare, it is not, pass rate is around 70% i believe.
      Preparation including theory revision to understand the standard (books and gov.uk website), lessons with a good trainer and lots of independent learning / practice, ensuring you ALWAYS driving to the standard, NOT just during your lessons or on the test.
      The people that struggle tend to be those who try to pass with the bear minimum effort or who have the wrong approach and think it is just a test to pass, rather than ensuring your have correct attitude towards road safety.

      It is also worth noting on your part 2 you WILL NOT be asked to parallel park between two cars, it will just be behind one, as such the road they use will be with 'light to medium traffic', so a mildly 'main' road in a quiet residential area at the busiest.

    I’m confused? If you are trying to demonstrate that you have a high level of driving skill and understanding of the Highway Code, why would you park up on the right as this contradicts the Highway Code? What would happen if you said to the examiner that in the interest of yours, mine and all road users safety that you will not do it as you wish to adhere to rule 239 of the HC? Would they ask you to do another manoeuvre instead? Surely they couldn’t fail you for following the advice of the HC?

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  3 года назад

      However I do of course understand what you are saying, but I also understand the DVSA view, sometimes pulling up on the right is needed, like forward bay parking is needed, so best to teach a learner to do it safely.
      If you refused to do it on test? Well never had that situation so can't comment on what would happen, but I suspect the test would not be legitimate, therefore you would fail, you could try to appeal the result but you will get no where.

    • @JennyL.I
      @JennyL.I 2 года назад

      You can park on the right hand side if there is a recognised parking space. So why on earth would you say to examiner 'I'm not doing that?'.
      Also, HC says 'do not' park against the flow of traffic'. In this case, it is not law, it is good practice.
