  • Economic Genius Joe Biden has figured out the cause of the catastrophic inflation in the US since he took office. Those of us foolish enough to believe it had anything to do with printing an extra Ten Thousand Billion Dollars must hang our heads in shame, because the TRUE culprit is PRICE-GOUGING CORPORATIONS… like those damned price-gouging, fat-cat farmers!

I once rented a tool for a car repair. It took me about 15 minutes - with the right tool - and I returned the tool. The rent guy saw me and didn't realize I had left and returned so soon. When I told him I was done and returning the tool, he said there would be no charge since I returned it so quick. I said he had to charge me because if he didn't make a profit, he would quit renting tools and I wouldn't be able to get one the next time I had to do a repair.

I used to be the Buyer's Assistant at a small family owned supermarket chain and we would use 30% markup. So if our cost on a can of peas was $.27 then I'd multiply it by 1.3 or $.351 so I'd put $.39 on the price sheet. Or maybe $.34 of we wanted to move them. If it was on sale I might use 1.28 markup. After overhead (rent, utilities, labor, etc.) 😮our average net profit was probably $.02 per dollar. That's probably where that came from.
Biden was running for Senate so long, he measures success by how much money he got allocated to a cause. Never worried whether that solved anything. Never worried about where the money came from. Only concern was making that dollar amount as big as possible so he can give speeches about how much money he secured for his constituents or his state. As President, he seems confused whenever people complain about how much he's spending because in his mind, the more the better.
Clearly he doesn't understand deficits or inflation.

The curse of Keynes - The equation that we've lived by for 80 years includes Government spending ("G". in the equation) as a major factor in defining the GNP/GDP (the calculations between Gross "National vs. Domestic Product are slightly different, but "G" remains in both equations.) So per democrats in general, and Republicans largely, alas, if you want economic growth, just spend more government money, whether we have it or not. Paul Volker was not what I would consider a reliable conservative, but in partnership with Ronald Reagan, he took us through a couple of years of economic pain to kill the stagflation under Jimmy Carter. (And to be fair, it started under Nixon, particularly when he got us out of Bretton Woods, and also imposed wage and price controls. Because nothing sounds more conservative than wage and price controls. The curse and joy of getting old, AND having a now more than 40-year old vintage degree in economics, you get to both have lived through these times, and understand why they happen.)

Not everyone wants prices low. If you sell 100 of something with a $50 profit on each you make $5000. If you sold the same item for much cheaper but only cleared $1 profit, you'd need to sell 5,000 to make the SAME money. But it's 50 times the work. If you sold 3000 of them, you'd make much LESS money and still be doing much more work.
