In the late '70s I read a book with literally 'no author' as the publisher tells the story - a guy drove to his house handed him the manuscript and drove off without leaving any contact info. The novel was published under the title 'Defiance' and I swear it was the book the 'Red Dawn' movie was based on although I understand there was a book called 'Red Dawn' - so I dunno. I can't find heads or tails of that book in several internet searches so I figure it was a small batch published and never revised. I gave my only copy of 'Defiance' to a friend to read and forgot about it for years and had since moved and lost contact. Iconic movie that probably too many of us still fantasize about - not the girls - the 'invasion'!
CORRECTIONS UPDATE: It must have been before Amazon and eBay since I searched for the book titled 'Defiance' by Oliver Lange. He is the 'author' (not publisher) but admitted the manuscript was handed to him. It was also published in 1984 - same year as 'Red Dawn' movie - so I didn't read it in the '70s as I thought. It's out of print but still available 'used' on eBay and Amazon.
Will check out the "Red dawn". Seems quite well made camouflage clothing for a movie. I often wonder how come that in nowadays militaries (apart from the germans in ww2 and soviets and russians) don't utilize reversible camo more often?
The US had the frog skin reversible pattern as well as the Mitchell reversible pattern, I think the big reason is SOP. Different command units making different rules on how the uniform could be worn and what pattern should be worn etc etc, it would start to muddy the waters. Also in modern combat with body armor, riggers belts, things that would be hard to impossible to make reversible to match both camo patterns. They could do what the USMC did with making Coyote Brown a standard color across both Marpat variants however that’s still two separate uniform patterns.
Didn't know that- in regards to the US camo patterns, thanks. Right now it looks like that tape in various colors to ID friend or foe is needed, since so many militaries use multi-cam. The gear doesn't cover legs and arms- but I agree about coyote brown- it blends quite will with camo- saw it myself in exercises.@@loganbaileysfunwithtrains606
