Hello, dear readers and subscribers. It is time for another top list. This time, we have a closer look at landscape painting today, looking beyond the traditional big names and including some new, exciting painters. However, who did we miss? Cool survey, thanks! KIEFER! So glad he made it in, shame poor old Richter didn't 😂. These are my heroes since the 80s. But I guess that's because in my work I've always questioned the limits of painting. Illusory space, oil on canvas, versus materialism, real space etc. That was the Kiefer epiphany.
Thanks for the very interesting video. Just one little suggestion: If the names of the artists appeared a little longer they would be easier to retain. Thanks again!
Can you talk about horror surrealism/ dark/ macabre/ ecc (paintings)? Where can you work as a Surrealistic horror painter? Are there any macabre art galleries? Is this a specific field in art? And can you work as an artist like that?
I can't agree with this list at all, simply due to the omission of Erin Hanson. Can you please tell me why she is not involved in the list? Or is it because she is becoming more well known?
🙏🏻🙏🏻muchas gracias por sus videos,,,me ayudan a mejorar como.artista y como conocimiento necesario del arte ,,,un saludo desde Cuba, espero por sus publicaciones.. thanks.❤️
When you were showing Peter Doug’s work, specifically Trinidad, you showed a Winslow Homer watercolor called “Flower Garden and Bungalow, Bermuda” I recognized it, as Homers watercolors are a great favorite of mine. Can you edit this out?
Thank you so much for pointing out this mistake. Somehow, this image found its way to the editor and it entered the video, my apologies. Well spotted! Unfortunately, as soon as a video has been uploaded to RUclips, I can't make any additional edits. As a result, I have mentioned the mistake in the pinned comment. Thank you again!

@@contemporaryartissueI do think that if someone has pointed out your error you should correct it properly. Otherwise it and your sarcastic tone to this commenter spoils your otherwise so far impeccable integrity.
Thank you for the wonderful exposé and happy to see some Belgian names, I'd argue Lucas Arruda would deserve a spot in the list since many of the mentioned names have "similar" styles. A wonderful list nonetheless.
The pleasure is all mine, and I am more than happy to include some of my compatriots. Yes, Lucas Arrude is definitely another terrific contemporary landscape painter. I have included him in a more extensive list: www.contemporaryartissue.com/the-best-contemporary-landscape-painting-a-complete-survey/ Have a great day!
I struggle with landscape painting, often something always seems missing or unfinished about them in my eyes. My problem, that I accept but I have never really been able to put my finger on what it is I feel I am missing. Maybe it is what Marcel Duchamp said, not particularly about just landscape painting but I'll say it, it's just optics. That said, I have only seen works by Peter Doig and Keifer. The Peter Doig paintings I've seen were mesmerising and Keifer's go without saying, they are so multilayered, in both materials and vision, it doesn't really matter what the subject is, I just get lost in them. That said, one should never judge an art work one has never seen in the flesh so to speak.
Hi Keith, thank you for sharing your most interesting thoughts here. I can see what you mean, it can indeed be a visual spectacle. However, I have seen the works of all 10 artists from this list and was thoroughly convinced of them when standing in front of them. Hopefully, if you have the chance to see them in the flesh, they might convince you as well. Thank you for tuning in and have a great day!
There are no Asian artists in this video, but I do feature them every now and then. Of course, as I am based in Europe, Western artists are more likely to be featured in my personally curated lists. I was however strongly considering the landscapes by Leiko Ikemura for this list, but I have featured her in practically any listicle on figurative painting so far so I decided for a refreshing take focusing on this topic. Thank you for tuning in!
Yes, you're absolutely right. As I am based in Belgium, I predominantly encounter artists who exhibit here. I am also a big fan of Leiko Ikemura's landscapes, of whom I had the pleasure to see her work in Antwerp. Feel free to share which Asian landscape painters you recommend. Have a great day!
Great artists, thanks for this information. However, I think none of them comes close to artists like Caspar David Friedrich, van Gogh, or Böcklin. These guys are just another league.
Not very inspiring to me. Except for Kiefer, who's not really a landscapist but uses landscape, they do not show true feel for nature, no sublimation or sublime ÷ very dry and lacking color sense. Here and there... reminiscence of Gauguin and who knows who..?😊 Just my opinion 😊
The pleasure is all mine... Yes, only two out of ten this time. Sometimes there are more men-as is the case here-and sometimes there are more women-as with our videos on textile art, the top ten young painters today, top performance artists, et cetera. CAI has no political agenda, only an artistic one!

Hi Greg, the pleasure is absolutely all mine. Glad to hear you enjoyed watching the video. Have a great day!
Really loved all of these artists. Thanks for covering the lesser known ones.
Thank you for focusing on “lesser known” successful artists of today. Most publications only want to focus on Hockney, Thiebald and Richter.
Heidcamp is definitely taking some cues from Hockney - in both the compositional style and colour palettes.

Great reviews, thanks.
Thank you so much, the pleasure is all mine.
Wow--- only on the second featured artist but had to comment...Daniel Heidkamp is a modern mix of Van Gogh, Seraut, Hockney and Cezanne!
What are the most popular paint brands for galleried artists?
Thank you always

I love Peter Doig, but I believe you included a Winslow Homer watercolor in his section.
yes, Doig spawned a whole movement of Canadian canoe paintings. ;)
Good stuff.
Thank you!
Australia and NZ have great landscape painters.......😊
Indeed. I would put Idris Murphy on this list

Yes, seems that many landscapes are just pretty pictures. These two artists evoke something deeper.

These works should not be called landscapes. I would suggest dreamscapes or hallucinations.
