“Love you brother see you soon”. That hit me hard. For anyone who watched Kobe and Vince growing up, you could see there was this rivalry and bond they had with each other. Mutual respect for each other. Both were the two most popular players in the league during the early 2000’s. Obviously Kobe took his game to another level but still they seemed so connected to each other. And now Kobe passes away on Vince’s birthday. It’s just too sad for any kid who grew up watching these guys.

This is the most insightful of all the league tributes. Kobe had become a very peaceful, loving and gentle man since retirement... We don't need any reminder about his intensity and drive, if you do then you didn't know him... but we were just starting to get to know the man under his NBA persona... and we were just starting to love him even more.

In my lifetime, and I've gotten to watch Jordan play, Kobe was the most complete basketball player I've seen. 6'6 and can handle the ball like a point guard. You sagged off him and he'd drain the 3. You played him close, he would go right around you and finish at the rim. You put a smaller guy on him and he'd post him up. There wasn't a way for a team to defend him. On top of all that, he was a great defender. I would never forget when he was still very young, playing in an All Star game, he was constantly picking the brain of Gary Payton on how to defend certain situations. After I saw that, I became a fan of his, even being a Warriors' fan.
