    In my opinion, you should not regard boil off directly as a factor if efficiency, since only water gets boiled off and you raise gravity at the same time as the volume shrinks. Just my 2ct.

    Hi Bradley! Very informative video on how to improve efficiency.
    The increased sugar value after clarifying the wort has to do with the homogeneity of the sample. If the wort is still unclear, it affects the density and thus the sugar (extract content). The measurement should be taken after pumping out cloudy wort. When the wort is well mixed and homogeneous, you will receive consistent gravity measurement values.
    Let us know what you think.

Currently, I'm in the market for Brewtools B40 + some additional stuff, and I'm doing my homework to figure out what to buy (or not) and why. Then your channel is an invaluable resource for this purpose. Helps me a lot. If we ever meet in person, I'll buy you some beers (a lot of beers) You definitely deserve it :-) Again .. Thank you!

    Bradley, I am enjoying your videos and potentially ready to get into a B80 type setup. I am new to the brew house so I’m doing a lot of research right now. It would be nice to see maybe a 2 to 3 part series on the planning, recipe creation using Brewfather. As you said it is all about building a good routine and logging what works and what needs work. It might be a little overkill for the seasoned brew masters, but it might help out a newbie like my self. Water treatment, testing, PH when, were, how it all starts to add up…
    1 - understand your equipment - what you need to know to dial in your kit ie B80.
    2 - Brew day planning - recipe creation, stocking what you’ll need for the day grain to water treatment items, Brewfather entry and brew log setups.
    3 Brew the planned beer with testing and log entries.
    4 fermentation’s process and tasting of finished product..
    I know this is simple to write out and most certainly hard to film and produce, but everyone can benefit from seeing the behind the brew day items that take place in order to get a good brew day routine in place!

    Hello friend.
    I'M the owner of a b150 on a small commercial brewery here in Portugal. I used to have 3 vessel system, and brew with great efficiency. However I have been struggling with the b150, efficiency way to low arround 65% on a 20kilos grain bill. Grain is well crushed, i do recirculation with the new manyfold. Never tried lifting the basket and vorlauf again, will give it a try. But i find that there is a lot of sugar in the grain after the sparge, i sparge with 80°c hot water, but without much luck. Do you have any tips I could use? Can you take a lot at my brewfather maybe? Thanks again

    Hi Bradly, thanks a lot, for all of your informatative videos. I really appreciate that! Since English is unfortunately not my first language and the Imperial system is very foreign to me, I don't understand what malt / water ratio you feel is optimal for the B80. Would you be so kind and tell me your base ratio, from which you start? Thank you so much.

    H Bradley, very impressive videos I love the time you have taken with lighting and scripting - very professional. I'm interested in the BrewTools infrastructure (B80/F80) and are coming to it new. Would you consider a full end to end "recipe design to drinking" video series with the latest BrewTools equipment and accessories (many upgrades since you started and brew setup optimisations) using your favourite equipment from other companies to fill the BrewTools gaps? Appreciate the effort involved.

    I have a B40 with a steam hat and condenser. I have not touched the boil off rate in Brewfather as it is pretty much spot on. What i do notice is that OG is the same before and after boil. Is this because the boil off rate is so low?
    When you calculate losses, do you fill up and then circulate through the counterflow chiller before pumping out?

    • @PortlyGentleman
      @PortlyGentleman  3 года назад +2

      If you’re trying to figure out the volume of the kettle that’s not necessary.. if you’re trying to figure out the complete losses within your system absolutely make sure everything has water in it .

    • @GdrageV
      @GdrageV 3 года назад

      @@PortlyGentleman trying to figure out total loss. I’ve added, based on your setup, more valves and bends 😄 I measured 4.2 liters loss…?…? When I drain the rest I never get back the 15 liters I put in, I only get 14.2 liters. So somwhere in the system 0.8 liters is left. I guess in the CF chillers as I did not take it of, I only blew the water out.

    Hey Bradley, I'm interested in how you use CO2 to push your wort to the fermenter. I have a slight uphill climb and that's where I see the most loss of wort volume. Frustrating.

    • @PortlyGentleman
      @PortlyGentleman  3 года назад +1

      It definitely works extremely well I highly recommend it. all you really need is a Brewtools gas post. A couple of tri-clamps and the gaskets. as well as a T if you don’t already have one.

  • @axlns81
    @axlns81 3 года назад +1

    Thanks for the video! Very useful, my brewhouse effeciency on B40pro is less than 70%, I think because of quite big chiller/tubing losses (around 4.5liters), thanks for your suggestion to purge chiller/tubing with CO2, going to try it next brew (in fact I already tried it on last brew, but I end up with too much wort to fit into my grainfather conical :) )
    I have few questions, would appreciate if you'll find time to answer
    1) do you rotate sparge manifold (brewtools one) while sparging? myself I keep rotating it every few seconds, its not too convinient (and its hot), but I think it should give better efficiency because of more even sparge?
    2) vorlauf, do you do it before or after sparging?
    Thanks!

    • @PortlyGentleman
      @PortlyGentleman  3 года назад +1

      You should definitely be able to get that efficiency up. being able to scale back your losses is going to help with that immensely. I do rotate mine on occasion I’m not sure that it does any good. it does keep me occupied and that’s important lol .
      Vorlauf If you’re going to do one you definitely want to do that before you Sparge. Let me know how your next break goes?
