    Ok I saw a nice legionary fortress and I'm wondering why we don't have that in the game ? I really wanted the legionary marching camp that I read so much about with the walkable walls that were filled with the dirt from the trenches they dug around the camp and the gate that can match 10 men side by side out of the gate and the 3 story towers where archers and slingers would keep enemies away from the wall. Ca come on help us here! This game has so much potential and we the fans expect to be wow'd. Please respond

      ***** I know, but it's good that they don't just care about making a game and selling it and that they have a genuine interest in educating as well. I don't know if you watched them but they got the people over at Extra Credit to make a series of videos about the Punic Wars, just for educational purposes.

      ***** They've released like 7 patches man. It's not like they're ignoring the issues in favor of creating dlc. They also just released the Baktria faction to play as free dlc.

      ***** Don't blame CA, they've got Sega as their publisher. They first wanted to release it in 2014 and since they had extra budget, it would probably not have been such a mess. However, for some reason (hint: greedy publisher), they shifted it back 5 months. Now they are adding all the stuff with the patches that should have been in the planned January release. I do have to give them credit for the patches, they've fixed a lot, but there still are issues that have to be fixed. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt this time, since they do want to make the game awesome, but I'd rather have them spend 3 years on the next Total War game, and have it be a 9 than release another game that's worth a 6 and patch it to an 8.

    • @NarwhalMasterr
      @NarwhalMasterr 11 лет назад

      ***** Just because you have been using an engine for some years, doesn't mean that being rushed isn't a problem. You have to implement a lot more than just an engine. It's like cooking something. You might have used the same stove and pans for years, but that doesn't matter if you have to cook a dinner in 45 min while you should be taking 60.

    • @NarwhalMasterr
      @NarwhalMasterr 11 лет назад

      ***** Sega owns CA. They can easily fire members of the team if they don't reach the goals Sega told them to reach. You don't just give a release date and then release a product months before that date. Only huge external pressure forces you to do something like that. Sega were the only people able to give such pressure. CA made a lot of mistakes during development, but ultimately, Sega is the one to blame for pushing the release date up earlier and earlier.

    I'd like to see a reenactment of Battle of Gaugamela because I know macedon will lose because elephants and chariots are overpowered in game right now.
    The chariots can go straight through pikes. lol

    • @Ma2ti
      @Ma2ti 11 лет назад +24

      In fact the chariots could be a problem to the phalanx even frontally, that's why Alexander told his phalanx to open the formation and let pass the chariots. Similar tactic used by Scipio against the elephants in Zama. Unfortunately, that's impossible to do in this game.

    • @ScipiPurr
      @ScipiPurr 11 лет назад +3

      Ma2ti it falls victim to the same mechanics of cavalry charges, they ram full force into dense blocks of men which they wouldn't have done realistically. Those tactics work, at least in the case of elephants, because they won't go through a block of men if there's an open space available. But, warscape seems limited on that. I really wish they'd implement it, though.

    • @jonasnee
      @jonasnee 11 лет назад

      Ma2ti no he didn't, he just told the receiving phalanx men to dug in, and then the guys besides them went up and stapped them to death, no matter what physics wont allow a chariot to survive a head on impact whit a pike wall.

    • @DizzPants
      @DizzPants 10 лет назад +1

      *****
      Alexander dealt with chariots as he did with Elephants. He let them go through the lines and then formed up behind the chariots. Behind the lines slingers and javelinmen took down the drivers of the chariots.

    Arminius did not spread rumours of rebellion so that the romans would march on to the forest. Also some other stuff deserves some more information too, because it's a really cool story.
    From the beginning: Varus and his legions had two encampments on that region. The Summer camp and the Winter camp. In the Winter they would stay in the forts they had build in their own territory, behind the Rhine river and when the Summer came they would move to the encampment that was in germanic territory. They would move through the river line with the support of boats that would carry weapons, food, materials, etc.
    In that year, they done it again, like they always did. they would go deep into germanic territory and collect tribute, patrol the german villages and impose their dominance to that people. Arminius was a gaul of noble heritage that had been educated in Rome as a hostage, because the german leaders had to give their sons to Rome as a sign of subjection. So in fact Arminius grew up in Rome like a roman kid and he was, in a way, more roman than german. Like all romans, he grew up to be very ambitious and many historians believe he had the desire to become some sort of King of the German Tribes, if he could unified them. In that season, he was deployed on the Auxilia on Germania and he saw his chance. He had an high post on the army and Quintilus Varus saw him as a Roman and a loyal man, loyal to Rome, his home. He was not the first foreigner to be educated in Rome and then becoming a person of power within the army or Rome's administration, this had been practiced for many many years and it was a normal thing, so nobody would suspect him. In fact he could be usefull helping pacifying the tribes, because they could listen to one of their blood.
    In secret, he started thinking about a plan to free 'his' people and at th same time, maybe get power for himself and weaken Rome. So he gathered some tribes and made a plan. But he knew the Roman Army better then anyone else, so he knew they couldn't defeat them in an open field battle, their only chance was to take them of their confort zone.
    Rumours of this betrayal reached Varus' ears but he liked Arminius too much and did not care for them.
    Then, time to leave german territory came again and they started preparing everything. Arminius went ahead to scout. Then he sets his plan into motion. The army should have followed the river line and then around the Teutoburg Forest until they were at the Rhine, but Arminius doesn't want them to go the usual route, so he draws them into the forest which was a terrible, terrible place for an army like the roman to be. the horses, the carts, the men, would be all dispersed, advancing slow, or not advancing at all. they had to build bridges and solid ground for the carts to move, they had to open way through the dense forest sometimes. men would be with low moral, tired, disorganized, etc.
    So, in order to do that, he attacks roman outposts and gets warning to Varus that attacks are ocurring. Varus is a proud man and with cruel but effective methods of crushing rebellions and subjugating other people. He would not let that pass and marches into the forest to deal with rebels. But he does not know that Arminius and the Germanic Mercenaries/Auxilia had deffected.
    So he gets deep into the Teutoburg Forest and then Arminius orders the germans to attack the romans. at this point they were a thin column with some miles, so Arminius orders small 'hit and run' attacks along some parts of the collumn, making hard to reinforce the places under attack and dividing them. they tire out the romans with this guerrila tactics and they can't really regroup anywhere. Varus keeps the army moving until they find a place to build a camp. Varus was not happy with defending and waiting for reinforcements from the Rhine, so he orders them to abandon the carts and the civilians so that the army could move faster and more organized. Also, he thought the barbarians would be satisfied with the loot and the civilians and would let the army go away limping. But Arminius realizes this strategy and forces the tribe leaders and his men to leave the loot and pursue the roman legions. Then the attacks begin again. The one who leaves the army with a cavalry force his actually a commander of Varus, not Varus himself. He left to get reinforcements but ends up being ambushed and killed.
    After three days they finally get out of the forest and into open country, where they think to be safe. They had been going north, out of the forest, now they turn west to the Rhine, but they march along the borders of the forest because a swamp was on the other side. The germans keep harassing them from within the forest.
    Then Arminius prepares his army for a final attack on the remaining romans. Most are killed, others are taken prisioner and Varus ends up taking his own life.
    The romans gave up on Germania because it wasn't worth the effort.
    Some years later Arminius would be assassinated by the germans, because he was powerfull and the tribe leaders did not like when other leader surpassed him. basically they got back to making war between their tribes and Rome was satisfied with that. Arminius was not driven solely for the power, also he would truly want to see his 'blood people' free from the roman shackles.

    I really like this video and think CA should do more of them with major historical events in future games. What Bettany Hughes states at the beginning, that 'without continuing to expand empires begin to wither and die' is actually highly disputed, because a greater empire also means less cohesion and many different cultures and problems far away from the capital or homeland (Rome/Italy in this case). This is called 'imperial overstretch' and we see throughout history that empires that grow too big are eventually crushed, by internal as well as external pressure.

    • @BizzMRK
      @BizzMRK 11 лет назад +1

      Kirisute Gomen CA wont even see any of the money anyway. Sega is the problem. They rip off the people and force their development teams lie to their fanbase to make as much profit as possible. Just look what Sega did to Company of Heroes and other franchises. Since the first few bad experiences i never ever pre-ordered games again except from those of which i know they dont have greedy publishers in their necks. The Publishers, no matter which of them, are those who bleed people and developers out for their own profit. And then there are greedy developers, too which just scam people and abuse their good reputation. X: Rebirth for example. 7 years of development and no limitations by the publisher. They could have done whatever they want. But somehow they forgot to make the god damn game and sold us an pre-alpha or even an prototype at "release". Then there are publishers like Ubisoft, EA, SEGA and co which just force their development teams to rush the games which results in an pure mess, too. I hope Crowdfunding will bring us some good games again. Star Citizen for example of which i hope it will be great but only time will tell the truth.

      TheLordOfWar There's equal blame by both parties. Its not just Sega exclusively just as its not just CA exclusively. With CA its just a case of terrible mismanagement and overall disgusting organizational culture towards consumers and consumer rights. Lets also not forget that there are individuals at CA who were responsible for failures such as the Lead AI Designer who everyone called out to be sacked and rightly so. His career should be over for this fuck up of a game as most of its problems are exclusively his fault.
      The fact that no heads have rolled sends the message clear as day.. they don't give a fuck about their customers.. they only care about Metacritic scores.

    I would like to watch a doccumentary explaining how terribly is Iberian Peninsula portrayed. In Rome 2 every people is portrayed as iberian (colorful robes, falcata swords...) while only the Mediterranean coast peoples were iberians, the rest were celts, and they would look very similar to the gauls for example (antenna swords, chainmail...). The cantabri or the galleaci weren't "iberians", they were celts, and they didn't used falcata swords...

    They should make some documentaries like this now. Using the Rome 2 engine would I think make them a lot more interesting. Maybe even have some little cinematic parts with the historical figures, that could be a nice touch. But they should make a documentary series using the Rome 2 engine. They could be like the old Decisive Battles series, but they'd have to be longer than 30 minutes because that'd make them a lot more interesting to watch and kind of have some build per say to the major battle of the campaign.

    I was surprised to hear about role of light cavalry speeding up and charging - all what I read so far was that this would be not quite possible in the particular terrain, that was very restrictive to movement normally and made even more restrictive artificially.
    I would think that what they easily could have do would be to cause utter confusion, because after all they were part of Roman army, so I can imagine some officer of auxilia coming seemingly coming to help, or to speak, then catching the units off-guard... but certainly not speeding up charging...

    If you're willing to make a 10 minute documentary, why couldn't you give us agent movies? They've been in nearly every other Total War game I can remember. Hell, this shouldn't even be a problem! Rome 2 should have had more in-game cinematics than any TW title! Just seems lazy of you, CA... I thought you shaped up after Shogun 2's release. Looks like we're back to Empire TW grade quality again.

      It wasn't a contentious battle. The Germans might attack the front of the column before retreating and attack again in another part of the column. It was a long grinding hot-and-run type battle and not a full-scale pitched battle.

    • @SRWellington2

      @@SRWellington2 The Roman army was most effective in clear flatland. Varus kept going through the forest (setting up camp at the end of the day) till he could find open ground.
      The Germans would ambush part of the column then retreat kind of like guerilla warfare.

    Oh man, some of you guys here are just utterly annoying. The game is actually playable now, alteast for me, on extreme, it makes fun and im okay now. Stop harassing CA, get you own shit together. You're just raging and raging and raging and for what? Only to laugh at someone who enjoys the game and is fine with the DLC policy because thats what EVERY OTHER COMPANIE DOES. Man, this was actually a real entertaining video and you're just behaving like Childs.

      Yeah, but why releasing your anger against CA? Why not €A? EA fricken deserves this! How many Franchises did they destroy with DLC and DMR? CA is one of the nicest companies in the world, they are really trying to make the game better. And in the words of Sam Devos: Move on! Its alright after 2 freakin months!

      So now the benchmark for games is to be playable and not good?

    • @UberMenschNowFilms
      @UberMenschNowFilms 11 лет назад +1

      LupusInCaligo Actually, I've already told EA to fuck off. I refuse to buy Battlefield 4 for many reasons, and I'm a fan of the series. In fact, there are several games that I would like to buy, but I know they've been ruined by EA (I'm looking at you, SimCity). The fact is, I still think CA's redeemable unlike EA. If things continue the way they are, however, they WILL become EA. This is one of the most content bare TW titles I've played (besides the abundance of factions). If CA's so great, shouldn't they be the ones saying we respect our fans enough not to flood them with overpriced DLC? Apparently, they don't. The fact that the game WORKS now doesn't nullify the fact it was BROKEN at launch. Like I said in a previous post on this video, where are the agent cinematics? The dynamic general speeches? You could make the argument that Sega pushed TW:R2 out the door, but why don't they add cinematics to the game via update and not do this? They stopped caring. An update like that wouldn't be profitable. This, however, is just one big advertisement.
      Paradox INNOVATES with each strategy title it releases. Rome 2 just has fancy graphics. Woo-hoo... Where is the old CA? The ones that made Rome, Medieval 2, and Shogun 2! I want them to make the next Total War, not these posers!

  • @CodexRegius

    Matter of fact, the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest was not that event which thwarted the Roman strategy. It was Germanicus' loss of his fleet on the North Sea and the resulting exorbitant financial burden which persuaded Tiberius to finally give up on Germania Magna. At any rate, Tiberius was the prime expert on Germanic affairs of his time - who would know better than him how to deal with them?

    • @TheDanishTeens
      @TheDanishTeens 9 лет назад +3

      Lags? Lol get a better computer. Dumb dlcs? One of which was free and more free ones on the way? Another of which was free on day 1? Another that you could have gotten if you pre-ordered for free? Ya the only thing you would have payed for is blood and gore.. oooh 3 dollars.. omg kill me. Get over it.
      Diplomacy is by far the best and actually works. Your inefficient skill is why the game is no fun for you.

    • @TheGreatMandalore
      @TheGreatMandalore 11 лет назад +9

      ChronicCoding Lol. Im laughing my ass off right now ;). I played every Total war and its the worst. Theres no diplomacy. Truly the first rome had more of it. Dumb dlc - yep. they just added already existing factions. Its not like Alexander or Barbarian for Rome 1 ;). Lag - I have a pretty powerful rig and i get different lags with different patches. Oh and i forgot to mention, patching a game for 2 months since launch is not a good strategy. Its a fuckin shame

    • @StephenWoodburyofAagh
      @StephenWoodburyofAagh 11 лет назад +3

      TheGreatMandalore Sir, what I have to say is have faith. If Total war produces one bad game in what, ten or so? Then I'm sure they'll realize their mistake. I mean think about it, how are you supposed to make better games without trying new things? And some new things suck. They've already announced an apology, they're trying to fix their game and personally, I like the diplomacy, not because it is dumbed down but because it is better than the other three total wars I've, played, Shogun 2, Empire, and Medieval. Sure, Diplomacy sucks compared to Rome I, big woop, how many trade offs do you get? Look at XCOM, they were shit for awhile like three months at least, and yet I hear it is one of the best games out there according to people I know. Just have faith man, so what they fucked up once, enjoy the game and hope they do a better job next time, I'm sure they don't want to be known as the COD of strategy games.

    • @donkeybreathsuperkin
      @donkeybreathsuperkin 11 лет назад +11

      TheGreatMandalore No diplomacy? Wow, you clearly have never played a total war game before. Rome 2 is the first one with even functional diplomacy. And those dumb DLC's? Barbarian invasion took over a year after release to come out, and don't pretend Alexander was good. If you changed your settings down you'd get a decent framerate, I've got a midrange machine and i play with most things on very high/ultra. And you're final comment was the nail in your coffin, patching the game for 2 months after realse being a bad strategy? So you want them to leave it as it was then? And if you thing they wanted to release it in that state, then it's time you learned a thing or two about how the games industry actually works you dense motherfucker
