@@JenPhelps $67 across 18 shadows works out to $3.72 per pan, which is surprising, because that falls between Coastal Scents' and Colourpop's price range. From that perspective, it's not quite as outrageous as it sounds, though that doesn't change the fact that it will obviously be out of many consumers' personal budget ceiling. For another example, I'd only be able to buy around 11-13 regular Sydney Grace singles for approx. $67. And big kudos to Huda for not including non-eye-safe shadows, for once!

@@threadsketch7267 To be fair, eyeshadow has recently skyrocketed. If I remember correctly, it was only a few years ago that the $1.5-2.5/g price range was the lower end of high end, and $3-3.5/g was the upper end. Rarellyy did you see $4/g and $5/g was unheard of. In the same few years, "luxury" has become the new high-end standard. The booming makeup industry has also pushed prices ever higher, resulting in a new standard.
Knowing the costs of these raw ingredients, I find $3.72/g rather insane. Calculate relatively low cost labor (China, Italy, maybee Germany, France and the US) involved when you consider the technology utilized to make these shadows/products... it's all incredibly overpriced. That's why you see the Jeffree Stars of the world eagerly overestimating their net worth because they soon expect to achieve it. I think I heard him reference something like $250M in a video recently when Google says more like $15-75 which just goes to show you how vague these numbers are and how much self-reporting goes on.
Companies don't do the two to three to SEVEN years of development they say. That's all marketing. In fact, most companies don't produce their own formulas. Labs do. Yes, Pat and Huda and Tom all receive samples that they likely play with themselves and they may even have a few true chemists on board to cross check a lab's work and help the "creator" find the direction... but they aren't creating the "newness" that we're all looking for. The labs roll that out and the brands pick from a menu of options and test them.
Also, I just wanted to encourage you to look into what makes various ingredients not eye safe because I'm not sure what you meant by that and I'd hate to see people miss out on products they like because they're afraid of the ingredients. Polyethylene/polybutylene terephthalate is "cosmetic grade glitter" with roundER edges but it still can damage one's cornea or elsewhere - but it's highly unlikely given the shape, structure and anatomy of the eye. Pressed pigments on the other hand actually use the same FD&C dyes you're accustomed to in different shades that have not been approved by the FDA (United States regulatory body). Why this is - well approval takes time and resources which cost money, and no one is willing to put that up right now. In the EU, ALL of the FD&C dyes you'll see used in cosmetics ARE approved for use because they've simply put the time and money into testing and found them to be safe. It's a bureaucratic issue, not a safety issue.
And while I would love to write a dissertation on the beauty industry and what really goes into a product, well... no one is paying me to do so. I just had to jump in and share my two cents because the beauty industry (companies) are getting out of control with this pricing. I'd love to say I have the solution to reign them back in but until the spike in demand dissipates, I see no end in site. :)

I fell madly in love with this palette and bought it around Christmas (I passed on So Jaded). After I purchased it, I felt extreme guilt over the price, feeling that I was greedy for spending so much on myself around the holidays & returned it, untouched, about a week after purchasing. *I regretted returning it every single day afterwards* . I had longed for it & thought of so many looks I had wanted to do with it & I was so mad at myself for bringing it back. Finally, last week, I re-purchased it with my brand new Sephora credit card, and I'm so glad I did 😁 I've used it nearly every day and I love it so much!

This is the first time I have watched one of your videos. I love your descriptions and review. I have been a makeup artist for over 10 years now. I noticed you said you are still learning with eyeshadow. I noticed something that may help. I noticed when you close your eyes to place the shadow you raise your eyebrows very high. When you are done your eyelids shift down and the shadow and blending changes. Not trying to be rude but I think if you bring a mirror closer and relax your forehead you would have a much easier time with shadows. I hope this helps and is not offensive. You are naturally talented!

Huda’s new pallet IS gorgeous, no doubt but I’m drooling over IBY’s New Enlighten pallet. Similar soft vibes but cool tones, which is what I’m wanting to wear this Fall/Winter. And it’s in my price budget (25.00). I have their Poolside pallet which I consider my pink pallet. The formula is beautiful, easily blendable mattes and rich creamy shimmers. So that’s what I’m pining for this season so far.🎃

I agree that this palette is different from the many we've been seeing lately. To me, these are effects and tones which would coordinate best with the clothing colours I want to wear in mid-to-late Winter and Spring, so in my mind, Huda is "ahead" of the game for North America and Europe. That being said, I'm curious to know if our Australian and New Zealand friends (who are in fact in Spring and looking toward their Summer) are pleased with this palette. I JUST got the Huda New Nude Obsessions mini palettes in medium and rich, and have barely scratched the surface of the New Nude big palette I got last Spring, lol, so I'm "good" for the time being with those and a few other colour collections I've picked up very recently. I do love the fact that Huda releases ONE big palette a year so far because it gives make-up lovers time to swatch, compare and save or budget their cosmetic money and actually creates a bit of anticipation. Too many cosmetic releases too close together can create a bit of burn-out which is initially what I was feeling about this palette. Perhaps my feeling will change and I'll really want this early next year. Great video!

    • @Amber86queenbee
      @Amber86queenbee 5 лет назад +1

Australian here and I can't wait to get this. Its the first Huda palette that is really calling me. The beauty about it is that you can totally do warm neutrals that ai associate with summer but at the same time there are pops of colour that could be spring or frozen winter. But being Australian we get use to the releases not coinciding with our seasons e.g. fall tones in summer or we get the total opposite with releases coming half a year or longer late.

@@JenPhelps so true! For example: the new Morphe x Pony 35I Icy Fantasy palette. All pastels, shimmers and glitter - just like this palette. It's extremely similar. Now people are saying pastels will be the next big makeup thing in 2020 - and Huda put out the pastel, glittery Mercury Retrograde at least 3 months before this new Morphe one came out. She really does have her finger on the pulse of things, and I admire that. I also love her interest in perfecting formulas - the Mercury Retrograde palette contains a new formula. I am medium light but I don’t think this pallet is for darker skinned women.

I think it looks pretty, but the colors look too pastel for my tastes. I think the CP So Jaded is more my style and more in my budget.

Hi I’m new. Can I ask for a video request? Beauty Glazed came out with a dupe for this palette called Mysterious and I’ve been looking for one. I don’t want to purchase it if it’s not pigmented and etc. Hudas prices are so ridiculous and out of my range. If you don’t mind can you compare the Mercury Retrograde with this one? I’ll leave it linked in the comments ⬇️ please and thank you. Love your channel 😊

I find it surprising that there are so many light colors in this palette. Huda herself has medium skin tone but it still looks good on her. I really like what she came out with for the past few years. I had high hope and she doesn't disappoint. I feel that she is a trendsetter in a way. Everyone tried to dupe her Desert Dusk and New Nude like crazy. I am waiting to see the whole makeup world gets saturated with this color story.

I agree! She is one of the most copied makeup brands, no question about it!

I'm curious to see if it's similar to the BH Opalescent palette.

I would like this palette and I don’t usually like the cool lighter shades, but I’m dying for those shimmers and glitters!!! But that price 😬

I thought I would skip this one since I just got the ABH carli Bybel palette, but idk now!!, if I’m near Sephora at anytime today, I may want to scoop this up. I’m fair too, and it looks like something I’ll use a ton! Edit: I do have the Profusion palette, and the colourpop so jaded, but I still want it! Eyeshadow palettes are my weakness! Lol

I saw on the web site that focallure with the palette sweet as honey looks like kind of similar, not as same but close!

I really like the first 2 rows and the first 2 shades on the bottom row. (I’m not a fan of most warm toned shades.) I’m seriously considering buying it, during the upcoming sale... but it also depends on wether I buy other things on my wishlist that have been “sitting there” for a while longer. 🤷🏻‍♀️ To me, this says “spring and summer”, though... so the release in the fall is a bit off. (Kind of like stores trying to sell shorts and short sleeved stuff, in February and sweaters, mittens and winter coats in July.)

It is a beautiful palette, but the price it is not for me... I am going to wait for ucanbe or focallure inspiration.... can't wait!

I did not like the So Jaded pallette. The colors just muddy together on my eyes. This Retrograde pallette is unique so it would be a great addition to my collection. I also love pastels. I really appreciate the comparison with other pallettes. I'm going to get it during the sephora sale

Is this really similar to the nude light obsessions palette? I’m considering just going for that as I don’t know how often I’d use the blues in here!
