As an ordinary Australian, a heterosexual baby boomer, this man means more to me than you could ever imagine. Thank you Peter for your talent and torment. Time IS a traveller, hugs mate.
I am totally over the moon watch and listening to this. Of course, knowing Peter Allen's story only magnifies how poignant this song is, and this performance you really feel his raw emotion. Peter was an incredible talent, the likes we usually only see once in a generation. Of course, he traqically died way too young, but his legacy will live on forever. Oh how I would have loved to have known him personally.
I spent some time with Peter when he was separating from Liza, 1974 or 5. We had several conversations over Piper at Reno Sweeneys while he was performing there. I will always treasure the experience. Randall
@@randallho1 I have just come across Peter on Sunday night, and his spirit went down in me.. I am a songwriter, taking the long road to get my songs out there, and his spirit is lifting me now as I write... I sing acapella but got musicians for my album.. it is a long story but I got two world class jazz composers on my album ... love & blessings to you Randall... Annie
Saw 2x in NYC, Radio City & Carnegie Hall. Truly one of the most over the top, exciting entertainers that gave and left everything on the stage. Few to this day could compare!
I'm just discovering his songs I'd never heard of him but one of his songs you and me is at the end of irreconcilable differences which is a brilliant movie almost no ones seen but I recommend it to anyone who loves Peter Allen
After last episode of Alex Trebek on Jeopardy, immediately went to youtube to see Peter Allen sing this song! Thank you for the posting! Allen was one of the most dynamic, expressive stage performers! Saw him atRadio City and Carnegie Hall - unmatched!!
Oh, I love this song. Sinatra would have OWNED this song, it's totally his late career vibe. And I can *hear* him singing it. The range and arrangement was beyond what he could deliver by the time it was written. He did sing other Peter Allen songs. Patti Labelle sang this on Carson too. For her - a beautiful and somewhat controlled performance. She really knew how to rework a ballad and imbue it with soul and drama. Peter Allen performed this song for his partner when he was sick, and in his memory after he died in 1984. I had no idea Peter had that kind of emotive voice and such an expansive range and dynamics. It's a beautiful performance here. He's inspired, for sure. Vulnerable AND a showman.
Wow! Thanks for this rare clip. I knew Peter had done the Tonight Show when Joan Rivers was guest host, but never knew he done the show with Carson. I'd love to see the whole segment, talking with Johnny.
Had a chance to see him in 1982 at the now long since gone "Valley Forge Music Fair". It wss a theater in the round. What an unbelievable showman! One more reason to love Judy Garland
By the time he did his last performance, he should have known that he had only little more time I mean he was ready to be passing. Sad though I want to give him my special thanks for the beautiful pieces of music. His soul still alive.
Thank you so much for digitizing this clip. The sound quality is AMAZING! Peter was such an incredible talent and is dearly missed. This song always breaks my heart. Thanks again and bless you for your efforts to rescue these clips!
Jeopardy should have definitely played Peter Allen's version of this song. What in the world were they thinking!? Hugh Jackman, nor anyone else for that matter, can hold a candle to the one and only Peter Allen. There can be no imitators.
I respectfully disagree with your comment “definitely not cool”. Peter Allen was one of the more talented entertainers I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. He communicated with his audience during every concert and we loved it. This is my favorite song of his. I miss him and his cool terribly.
I adore Peter Allen! Patti does a wonderful rendition of this song, such a shame she never released it on an album. ❤❤❤
As an ordinary Australian, a heterosexual baby boomer, this man means more to me than you could ever imagine. Thank you Peter for your talent and torment. Time IS a traveller, hugs mate.
As an Englishman born after Peter died, he means a lot to me as well.
He will never be matched. Best wishes mate.
No One will ever sing this song better than Peter Allen!❤
Agreed....but Barry Manilow has been doing an awesome version on his latest tour
One of the prettiest and meaningful songs I have ever heard. Rest in Peace, Peter.
real talent, real presence, a complicated man who had complicated emotional range that fed into extraordinary performance. A truly gifted artist.
one of the most underrated song writers of his time....i saw him 3 times....in person
So many of the songs Peter wrote, like this one, are timeless. He was a great songwriter not just a great performer.
Gome far too soon. This is literally my favorite song of all time ❤️❤️❤️

What a joy to see and hear the late Peter Allen. Love this song. Best version ever.
Peter Allen is the very best. I saw him at Radio City Music Hall in 1981. He was fabulous!

His voice is soo tangable and sincere

a brilliant performer and even fantastic songwriter gone too soon
This was played during the tribute to Alex Trebek, I have loved this forever, and Peter Allen made it more special
Actually, they played the Hugh Jackman version
Ah, when they had musical guests on late night talk shows with talent!
Really? No talent has existed in 40 years? Enjoy your 10 records. Why do folks like you say crap like this? Sorry your eyes closed.

It was so sad hearing this song during Trebek’s last episode. Let us sulk in the pain together.
They played the Hugh Jackman version for the Trebek tribute.

What a special joy to see this video. What a treasure he was. Lucky to have seen him him in the 60's when I lived in Australia.
Saw him a zillion years ago, at Reno Sweeney’s, 13th St., Greenwich Village. A wonderful talent, exceptional entertainer.

This song will always give me the chills 😊❤
Happy heavenly birthday Peter ❤
Just saw him in Season2 episode 1 of Miami Vice 1985. He had a small part but caught my attention. So here I am learning who he is!
By the time he did his last performance, he should have known that he had only little more time I mean he was ready to be passing. Sad though I want to give him my special thanks for the beautiful pieces of music. His soul still alive.

R.I.P. Peter and Alex Trebek (this song was in his tribute) you both will be very much so missed by many people. So long, Alex!
This is long before my time. This man was such talent just discovered him a year or so ago. Definitely not cool but talent is above that.
