The way I've always heard it explained is that Greed can't actually cover his entire body so whenever he appears to there are actually weak points that we can't see but Bradley's ultimate eye is capable of seeing them. And using his full body hardening slows him down so fighting against someone like Bradley who could see his weak points and already move faster than him it just wouldn't be an optimal way to try to fight him. I'm not sure if that checks out but that's the way I've always had it explained to me
The reason Bradley got greed the first time is because greed can’t regenerate and cover himself in the shield at the same time. Yes there are week point on him but if he is covered in armour there is none
@@dryfish8337 I don't think that's true because only one third of your body is made of carbon so he has a limit to how much he can extend his shield. Either way it slows him down and it doesn't matter if he's in vulnerable if he's not fast enough to do any damage to Bradley
@@TsavoriteRosie except he was willing to go full armor against Ed who is a much less intimidating opponent than Bradley. There's also the possibility that he can't completely harden his eyes or else he would go blind. But I think the most satisfying and typically agreed on explanation is that hardening his entire body slows him down and Bradley is just too fast to fight like that
I was excited for this episode, and for good reason. The way you went so quickly from "ahh clearly Riza is going to be used as a bargaining chip" to "do it do it perform human transmutation just do it already" Riza just has that effect on all of us
Probably something a lot of people noticed and I'm just dumb, but it kind of just occurred to me that Hawkeye bleeding out on top of a transmutation circle probably represents the damage and pain alchemy has brought to her life.
The old woman on 15:50, has the same character design for the first body we see Dante in during the 2003 version of FMA. Dante was the main antagonist of 2003 FMA who wanted the Philosopher's Stone so that she can attach her soul into another body. Thus, giving her eternal life, and she used the homunculie to to accomplish that goal. Basically, she is the Father of the 2003 version. Dante's name comes from the French poet Dante who wrote Purgatory. A book that basically explains the functions of the seven vices of man (or the seven deadly sins). Which Fullmetal Alchemist has taken quite the advantage to extreme effect.
Aside from blocking his handsome face, the reason Greed doesnt go full shield on Bradley is probably because of the things he learned from Ling on how to fight Bradley properly. One, going full Carbon impedes Greed's regenerative abilities which we find out from Ed's observation back in Greed's debut episode, so keeping it to some parts allows Greed to keep a handle on both powers without losing either. Two, trying to get past the ultimate eye. Greed could keep his whole body hardened but then Bradley would only repeat how he beat him initially by finding his weak points and openings until Greed goes down being forced to take down his shield to regenerate mass amounts of damage which puts immense stress on his stone. By hardening on certain parts of his body and using the fact that Bradley's ultimate eye has no X-ray capabilities Greed can keep Bradley in check and avoid being rushed and barraged into submission like before (it certainly helped that Bradley didn't have his other swords this time). And finally, the hardened carbon shield Greed has, while not properly mentioned at all, does take a toll on his movement and flexibility. We can see it the most when Ling uses them this episode. Ling who is normally inhumanly fast is moving noticeably slower when in full shield, and his arms look as if they have more weight to them as well (shoutout to the amazing animators). So of course in a fight with Bradley you do not want to be the slower of the two. Sorry for the long comment, I just really love the GreedLing Bradley fight.
This episode was really amazing. One of the series best imo. Agreed. It's very nice that this dub is so high quality. I think the sub only adds to it if you already speak enough Japanese to understand the dialog, like how Bradley and Olivier use old-school verb forms that are similar to each other, but different from everyone else in the show, or how Ed's famous line from Ep.3 and 62 is repeated verbatim, both times when he knocks down enemies who claim to be God. I once heard a theory that Greedling didn’t cover their entire body because it inhibits their movement, making it harder for them to dodge Bradley’s attacks or regenerate and easier for Bradley’s Ultimate Eye to locate and attack the weak spots in their Ultimate Shield (iirc the original greed had weak spots even when the Shield was up, so the new greed would probably have them as well).

Yeah greed doesn't like how he looks with the full shield, but in the battle with Bradley in dublith (and I think it's clearer in the manga) he doesn't cover completely because the Fuhrer is too fast and he won't let him
For Greed's shield, I forget where he said it, but Greed said at one point that he doesn't cover his full body because he hates how ugly it makes him look. That's literally it.

consider this.. Full shield greed... means no neck or head exposed. .. so would bradley even waste his time then fighting greed?! so never explained butt if we want to look at it logically and realistically... id say greed purposely left his head unamormed thus creates risks of being harmed and killed which would also have wraith fight him.. otherwise had greed came down fully armored.. there would be zero openings except his eyes... and bradleys good butt not that good . .. it be a waste of his time only able to target the greeds eyeballs which is also the only thing greed would have to protect... and even if wraith stabbed him in the eyes.. it take forever to do it over and over and over again xD and its be a death sentence for wraith as he would just tire out plus hes old.. so he'd tire out faster then when he was younger.. eitehr way it seems like a utterly pointless battle... so i say greed purposely allowed his head to be expose and risk being cut there which also means bradly could cut his head off and then keep chopping as it grew back and greed would eventually die.. aka that risk greed took is all bradley need to stay and bother fighting.. otherwise he'd have just yeeted greed away then then probably made his way to where he was trying to go.. i hope that is a good explanation for you.. again we really dont know butt its makes sense so im sticking with that... xD EDIT: conside how after bradley fell and was out of the picture.. now greed/ling engage the full shield on the face too.. protect from bullets. no risk.... shoulders dont know that so they are still attacking.. unlike prior .. wraith knew that and wouldnt waste his time thus why greed had no face shield... thats gain the only think i can say to explain it... i think it fits extremely well if i say so myself lmao

Next onee pleaseeeee
consider this.. Full shield greed... means no neck or head exposed. .. so would bradley even waste his time then fighting greed?!
so never explained butt if we want to look at it logically and realistically... id say greed purposely left his head unamormed thus creates risks of being harmed and killed which would also have wraith fight him.. otherwise had greed came down fully armored.. there would be zero openings except his eyes... and bradleys good butt not that good . .. it be a waste of his time only able to target the greeds eyeballs which is also the only thing greed would have to protect... and even if wraith stabbed him in the eyes.. it take forever to do it over and over and over again xD and its be a death sentence for wraith as he would just tire out plus hes old.. so he'd tire out faster then when he was younger.. eitehr way it seems like a utterly pointless battle... so i say greed purposely allowed his head to be expose and risk being cut there which also means bradly could cut his head off and then keep chopping as it grew back and greed would eventually die.. aka that risk greed took is all bradley need to stay and bother fighting.. otherwise he'd have just yeeted greed away then then probably made his way to where he was trying to go..
i hope that is a good explanation for you.. again we really dont know butt its makes sense so im sticking with that... xD
EDIT: conside how after bradley fell and was out of the picture.. now greed/ling engage the full shield on the face too.. protect from bullets. no risk.... shoulders dont know that so they are still attacking.. unlike prior .. wraith knew that and wouldnt waste his time thus why greed had no face shield... thats gain the only think i can say to explain it... i think it fits extremely well if i say so myself lmao
