    Soto said that this level of free agency is something every player wishes they could experience. He’s talking about the red carpet treatment each of these markets extend towards these guys. They’re literally getting flown out to see the best places like LA, Tampa, NY etc have to offer. It’s fun for them

    • @robertcropley7714
      @robertcropley7714 20 дней назад

      @@Stacey_-bf2mb Absolutely, but I think in the back of his mind he already knows where he'd like to go ideally and in all likelihood there's probably only a handful of teams that have a realistic shot but he's relishing this experience and allowing for the possibility that a team can come out of nowhere with an offer that nobody saw coming.

      @ he’s just fleecing most clubs. You’re right, he knows where he’s going and it’s the Mets lmao. They’re built to win already, his bat would be an over-the-top addition. Plus he doesn’t have to pack and move anything

Then these players would either take what we offer or go play over seas. Now the only way to stop it is to either somehow get a salary cap or every owner collude even though its illegal just to get these salaries back down.

    I keep feeling part of giving $700 million to Ohtani (yes I know it's really not worth that much), is that Ohtani brings in so much commercial value to offset that salary. So essentially you are giving Soto what he wants solely for his abilities, which is obviously very high. But just feel like in time whoever sign Soto will eventually regret having to pay him that much.

    • @RIP_Greedo
      @RIP_Greedo 21 день назад +1

      The Ohtani contract makes perfect sense because he’s basically 2 players. Forget the deferrals - $70 million a year. $35 mil for a 50/50 DH and $35 mil for a number 1 starter. In isolation either of those contracts would be reasonable.

    IMO, it's necessary to read btwn the lines using what he's already mentioned as well as what he hasn't said. I legitimately don't know if it's going to be all about the money as you were saying that it going to come down to who dangles the genuinely most obscene sum of money. He's already gotten started with crafting his own unique legacy and genuinely distinctive career by arriving way ahead of his development trajectory and silencing the critics, doubters, trash talkers etc and he was a key part of the National's championship season. He knows what he brings to the table and he wants to make sure that presumably the last contract of his career that he's about to sign reflects the caliber of player he is with the level of talent that he has. He's suggested that they're looking for a contract similar to Ohtani's but NY should just make a pre-emptive move and present him with a legit respectable deal that's carefully structured and make the situation unnecessary for him to continue talking to the other teams. They did something similar with Cole, they probably overpaid for him but they weren't interested in bartering and taking a chance of not getting him in process. Soto sees things that playing here represents which extend further than just the money alone. He can sign for slightly less money hypothetically and stay here recouping the money in endorsement deals. He has family in the area and that's in addition to being within spitting distance of the largest Dominican community in the country. He's already seen what it would be like to play here and he had a career season. Does he really want to roll the dice on the unknown and hope that it works out? I think he's ready to lay down some roots as the expression goes.

    You guys want to pick up players who are better at fielding but can no longer hit. No thanks. Kay is right in that Arenado isn't aging like Donaldson. In that Arenado is aging much worse. He's already well into decline at age 32, Donaldson's decline started at age 35. Jeff McNeil HR totals last 5 years 4,7,9,10,12 and has never had more than 23 in a season. To think he would hit any more than 10-15 at Yankee stadium would take a lot of drug use. Do better.

    • @benwilson6559
      @benwilson6559 21 день назад +1

      I think Arenado would be a good trade if they would eat some salary. He’s still one of the best defensive players in the game, and he batted .272 this year. HR’s and RBI’s dropped, but the Cards were a lot worse this year. Still had 23 doubles too.
      I agree McNeil is a terrible option though.

    • @erikprimitivo5071
      @erikprimitivo5071 21 день назад +2

      At least at 33 he still has the flexibility to play a bit better or even return to form. By donaldsons age he was pretty much locked into a decline and it was a very steep decline, almost nobody saw it coming to be fair. And looking at his whole career his exit velocity wasn’t that fast. (He had like an average of 92 MPH off his bat when he won MVP in 2015) so you throw those into the mix along with a shoulder injury at 35-36 and you are cooked my friend. Don’t think it’s quite the same scenario as I don’t see why arenado wouldn’t be able to hit over 20 hrs next year, not like he’s had surgery or anything. His team is also trash so maybe his confidence and morale is lower. I wouldn’t trade for him though unless I was paying like 10M per for him.

      Well don't let us get in the way of this whole narrative that you're fabricating over here 😅. I assure you that the Yankee fanbase isn't thinking about the situation along the lines that you suggested. It actually much more simple than that. The team has the ability to make him an offer in the area that he's looking for and they have a slight edge in that he's already played a season here and experienced what it's like and he had a career season in the process. This is going to be the last contract he signs in all likelihood and leaving the known for the unknown will play a role to some extent. Obviously there's no guarantees but NY is in a good position to retain him.

    • @erikprimitivo5071
      @erikprimitivo5071 21 день назад +1

      @@robertcropley7714 hot take - I don’t think this will be the last contract he signs. I believe he will have multiple opt outs littered throughout the contract as other boras agents have had. I believe he will opt out by age 28-29 or even 30 if the market continues to increase. He will not stay at 45-50 M if there is someone out there being paid 50+ he will use his prime years as a way to leverage it into a new offer to fit the market. Especially if he wins an mvp or World Series in the next couple years.

    • @robertcropley7714
      @robertcropley7714 21 день назад

      @@erikprimitivo5071 I could see that, there would be quite a few variables I'd imagine in addition to the ones you mentioned. His overall health and injury history or lack of and the overall condition of which ever team he eventually signs with at the time when the opt out presents itself. Is the team heading in the right direction or not etc. He also may have to do something like that because this upcoming contract won't quite reach the level of Ohtani's IMO.
