Dealing With Our Enemy...THE WIND 😭 | Lincoln National Forest & White Sands National Park

  • After leaving Big Bend we headed north to New Mexico and stayed at Lincoln National Forest. Surprisingly that night we got hit with some heavy winds again which had us sleep inside our car for the first time. The next day we left the campground in search for a new campsite and stopped by White Sands National Park.
Since posting this video we have managed to find better ways to determine winds before staying at campsites. We use and app called Wind Compass which has been awesome! Since our tent is on the roof of our car it's not easy finding locations that have barriers to block the wind. We are learning one step at a time though.
Disclaimer: We have been made aware that it is pronounced Hee-la and Gee-la. 😅 Our apologies.

Growing up in west Texas, in the late 50's and 60's we went to Lincoln National Forest twice a year for a week. Our truck pulling a home made 18 ft camper, and a BMW motorcycle in the truck bed, and me on a BMW following them. We would always stay at the Apache Campground. At the time I had an Uncle that worked at White Sands Missile Range. My last year was 1970, as the next year I joined the Air Force for 20 years. Nothing but good memories of those days as both my parents have passed many years ago. Thanks for the vid.

Good evening Ivonne & John, I hope you had a Wonderful Birthday ! Sorry to hear about your struggle with the wind. At least now you know what to expect & how your tent holds up. Cool place, it almost seemed like you were in the artic somewhere. Keep the sand out of your eyes & keep smiling !

I feel your struggle with the wind! My rooftop tent has an Annex as well and the winds at big bend in the back country were unforgiving... Needless to say the next upgrade will be something with solid walls! Thanks for sharing!!!

We feel a little at ease knowing that others have gone through the same struggle, we thought we were doing something wrong. Our annex held up and kept a safe space for us, which was helpful. thank you so much for watching our video!

That was Lincoln National Forest not Park...heh.
Suggestions: the Catwalk in western New Mexico tho it's better in warm weather
Chiricahua National Monument in south east AZ. Great and little visited park. Very nice camp ground for small units.
Gila is pronounced Hee-la not Gill-la
Gila Cliffs NM is worth a visit tho I don't know if you can camp there, there is camping in the surround NF.
City of Rocks STATE Park in south west New Mexico is a good spot.
I could go on for a long time...heh
For suggestions on Van camping I really suggest you look at some of Tristans episodes on SUV RVing channel. You'll also get some good hints on doing these videos
    try these two: ruclips.net/video/1p4ZVtt2C_Q/видео.html

Hey! We really do have so much to learn. We’re both very new to all these outdoor adventures. And comments and people like yourself is the reason why we’re making these videos. We get to learn from everyone who’s more experienced than us and it feels like a cheat code. We appreciate this so much Bryan. We’ve subscribed to SUVRVing. We’ll definitely take some pointers from him.

You guys are making me homesick. I’ve been at WS with winter clouds so low that there wasn’t a horizon to be seen, same white above and below. Really disorienting.
Happy birthday to Yvonne and good luck on your travels. Hope you’re weathering this cold snap safely.
