Loved watching the video, John! I have always had two minds with wine futures. You summarized the pros and the cons beautifully! I have placed my bets on some wine futures that luckily turned out in my favor. One other disadvantage I can see is that the futures generally require you to buy multiple bottles at once, so if you don’t like it, you are stuck with the rest! Cheers and thanks for the informative video, my friend!!🍷🍷🍇🍇

Thank you, my friend! So glad you enjoyed it! Yes, typically futures purchases would be in larger quantities as well. In the past, I have teamed up with some friends to pool our purchasing power and reduce the per-bottle exposure for each of us. That worked well also. Cheers!

This video was terrific, John! I did not realize that there is a futures system in place for wine! Very interesting. Thanks so much for doing such a great job at explaining this concept. I really appreciate your presentation of the pros and cons throughout this video series of wine collecting. Another fabulous episode of the Attorney Somm Wine School!! :)

Thanks so much, Jana! The system has worked for Bordeaux, but has not been used as successfully for other wines. So pleased you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and the kind feedback! Cheers!

Fortunately, I have a very reputable wine dealer and I have seen futures offered, but never really understood how it actually worked. Great info John! Thanks as always 🍷😎

I’ve heard of the expression “En Primeur” but never knew the meaning of it until you eloquently explained it in this video. I thought the word “futures” was only used in the stock market, and I had no idea it had a place in the wine world. John, thank you for another informative video. Keep them coming! Cheers! 🍷

Grazie Gina! So pleased it was useful. I have been learning more about the en primeur system and enjoyed attending the event recently so I wanted to share! Cheers!

Great video! It's great having all of this info condensed so well. I was wondering which négociant you use? Perhaps you will get more into this in your next video. I did not realize how important the first tranche was for setting prices down the line.

Thanks very much! Appreciate the kind feedback. In the next video, I do discuss the purchasing process in a bit more detail. That video will come out next Thursday. The main thing is to make sure that you buy from a reputable, well-established merchant that has been in business a long time and is likely to still be around when it is time for the wines to be delivered. Examples would include Berry Bros. & Rudd in London, Hart Davis Hart in Chicago or Wally's in Los Angeles.

Oh woah! I had no idea there was so much involved into buying Bordeaux. Thanks for the thorough explanation of what goes into it!

Thank you! Yes, this is for the futures. Or you can just wait 12-18 months and buy off the shelf. Pros and cons to both! Cheers!

@@sanjaypatelmd4669 After the primary trade event in Bordeaux, there are tours in the US where there are opportunities for consumers to taste the wines. Those are offered through the UGC which has a US tour planned for June 23-30. For example, there is an event in New York at Cipriani on June 27 where you can taste more than 100 Bordeaux from the 2019 vintage. That is much better anyway as the en primeur wines are really difficult to drink and are not enjoyable yet.
