It took time to opening a country completely, especially a country like China with such a long history of self-closure policy. And the slow process of opening up might have been necessary. As long as China is willing to continue the process, she will be fine. In the eyes of history, that process could been seen rapid enough. Just like a surgeon cautiously slice a body open for organ repair or removal, the patient's family member wouldn't want the surgeon to be careless. As long as the surgery is successful, you would't mind it take a little more time. China has suffered too much in the last two centuries, any necessary surgery needs to be done with utmost caution. The only mistake China could make is to ignore her desfunctional organ and delay its treatment. I think current leaders in China are on right direction, by recognizing China's problems and slowly begin the treatment. The foreign press or government's opinion or criticism is a necessary reminder for Chinese government and its people. But in the end, its her own body and she has to make the best decision for herself.

There are two types of westerners who want to see China complete open up and practice same type political system: 1) Those who do believe their democracy is the best system in the world. They want the people in China to have the same type of freedom as they had. I always appreciate these kindness and empathy of them. But the problem is whether their political system, if applied in China, will bring prosperity and happiness, or create chaos and endless in-fights and government dysfunction, which we saw in Africa and India. 2) Those who want to exploit the in-fights between different parties in China. US is notoriously experienced in doing this all around the world. "divide and conquer" is the best strategy to defeat the enemy in their eye. The genius of the US government is that they always have the language and make up of the first type while having the hidden or unconscious intention of the second type. Most Chinese know how it works. So even though most Chinese don't always agree with what the CCP is doing in China, the last thing they want is to have China split and exploited by US.
....yet now here we are on the eve of 2020 in China's war on the world. It was a mistake for USA to teach China how to walk and bring China out of the Dark Ages.
