I’ll go first:
I’m Christina. I’m married to my best friend, Seth, we have 5 kids (ages 2, 3, 6, 10, & 14), and love our family, Jesus, and adventuring together.
We are passionate about being counter culture, including alternatives to traditional schooling. I have experience as a public school teacher, private school teacher, and homeschool mom!
I love the Charlotte Mason education approach, and many others, but I’d say I’m more of an eclectic teacher-mixing the different aspects of homeschool styles that I love-living books, literature-based learning, Montessori, and so much more!

I spent the last few days driving across the state and stopped at a rest stop today where hundreds of high schoolers from at least 6 different schools were stopped for lunch... It did nothing but affirm our choice to homeschool. I don't even remember being with my family during high school (public school kid), let alone their influence. I remember music and my peers' influence. And that was NOT healthy.

This right here. I remember anything my parents expected went out the window as soon as I walked in that school. If people are being honest, you have to worry about where you're ranked in the hierarchy of your immature peers. So whatever you gotta say, you just go with it to make sure you're not at lunch with no friends. It was the worst experience of my life, and everyone recognizes how much these years impact the rest of your life.
Agreed. It's a lie that we should separate from our kids so much. If you work (away from your kids) FT you can't parent FT. It's simple math. We had to have our eyes opened through abuse in the system that we could do nothing about. Thankful my child survived and it was before kindergarten. It's apparently very common and doesn't get lots of coverage. Discovered by research in 2017. It's WAY worse now.
My kids are much healthier in behavior and even better at academics than their public school peers in most cases, definitely healthier than I was..That's including my severe ASD child. I had an NPD "boss babe" mom that was there for fun and hated actually parenting. Too busy slacking at work TBH. LOL Anyway, I feel blessed to be homeschooling fully.
Hold on to your kids was a life changing book for me. It's the number 1 book I recommend to homeschoolers and parents.

Absolutely we are not called to let them loose into the world!!!!!
AMEN. "Spare the rod..." about keeping them guided on the right path and protected, teaching them discipline in the sense of self control, not about physical abuse at all. One of the verses most taken out of context. We can't raise our kids FT AND work away from them FT. The math doesn't add up...We can't send them to corrupted organizations and expect them to not be of the world.
I watched a video the other day from a lady who was homeschooled. She said that for about a year she went to high school and she said that her peers thought she was weird because “she wasn’t up with trends!” That blew my mind. This is exactly what people mean when people ask about socialization and homeschool kids. Sorry but that is so vain and dumb. I sure hope my kids are “weird” because trendy just means temporary!
I wasn't up on trends as a kid either. LOL I was in public.
"Bad Company ruins Good Morals." That part!! 💯
School is much worse in so many ways now, that it's shocking. School , especially Middle & High School, is more about survival than education nowadays. It's been that way for decades now. Unfortunately, the teachers are even corrupt now or if they aren't corrupt they are being forced, in many schools, to teach subjects or adhere to certain societal beliefs that they may not support but, will lose their jobs if they don't comply. Home School feels like the only option for my family and I right now.

I am a new sub. Absolutely love this video. And agree. My son is 13. And he is still innocent. Intelligent. Been homeschooling for a year. And I see a visible change in his attitude. His joy. His confidence. In a positive way. I believe I will be homeschooling high school as well. God bless this platform.

Luke 6:40 says, "A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher." So important to chose your children's teachers carefully. Loved what you shared!

I've seen homeschooled families that have well socialised kids and ones who aren't. Same in school. I'm not worried about weird kids. I see quirky as good. Often these are kids with unrecognised additional support needs. They're in schools too. My concern is more are they kind, are they able to talk with people who think differently to them, can they work with and befriend people with different backgrounds and beliefs, can they show empathy and respect. I think this can happen and also not happen in both homeschool and school families. It depends on personalities and parenting, where people live, what they expose themselves to and how active they are in life and community. If you spend all day in your small town or in your home or only with your church community you may raise more small minded people than if you leave and live a more active life. That's true for both home based and school based socialisation. If someone is intentional about who their kids will be, then they will probably do fine.
This was such a great video. Sometimes we just need to remember that at the end of the day, our choice is the best choice. And the part about being left out.... yesssssssss!

I love this video.I have a 5 year old who needs extra supports and his school said they cannot offer them this upcoming year and tried pressuring me to send him to a school that i am uncomfortable with as he is non verbal and autistic and the school doesnt have a good reputation. It made me feel a bit hopeless and not supported but I know what is best for him and I love to see other moms who feel the same.thank you for all your videos and how supported I feel with each one!
Yes! Hold Onto Your Kids completely secured my opinion that homeschooling is best for our family. It's also really interesting to read about initiation into adulthood and how teens need that more than just being given freedom.
Wow yes! My daughter is 16 and I've been thinking about that a lot lately. I only started homeschooling her and my son (7) since last year. I love it so far! But it will be so short-lived for my daughter. Do you have any books or links that you can share perhaps?

Absolutely Christine I'm with you on all of your points. Very well said. I really don't care who calls me a "helicopter mom" my job as a parent is to guide my child and I totally agree the society makes it very difficult. Love your videos.
Thank you thank you. I just began this journey with our youngest two. This was something that si didn’t even realize I needed to hear. We have been conditioned to believe that it is developmentally normal and necessary for kids to be around their peers for a majority of their day. I almost felt guilty for choosing to ‘take this away from them’. I am so happy to have come across your video that has given me new information to research.

Ahh! I am hesitant because I don’t want to do all the things surrounding homeschooling. Easier to wake up and drop them off. They attend a private, Christian school and are at the top of their classes. Why bother? Ahhh…but the heart. Eternity. That’s why. God give me courage and strength to do it.
Hi, I’m Paige! I am currently a first grade teacher at a public school in Missouri, and my son is almost 2. I have been feeling extremely convicted to homeschool. My husband is not quite on board for several reasons (financial, socialization, etc.) I know how incredible of an opportunity homeschooling can be, and honestly, I am scared to even consider sending him to public school.

I saw your comment and just had to give my testimony.
I had wanted to homeschool my kids since before my oldest began kindergarten, but my husband wasn't on board. However, before my son's kindergarten year was finished, my husband realized that it was best for our family, and gave his blessing for me to homeschool him the next school year. So if you're a praying person, pray. And if it's God's will for you to homeschool, He can change your husband's heart.

Also not to scare you but Homeschool is ideal. I grew up in Catholic and then public. My first child, severe ASD was in a small public program for years before K that we trusted (before i accepted salvation), getting abused and we didn't want to believe it but I'm glad we found out then vs later. The districts get away with a lot, it was depressing and infuriating to research how common it is. That was 2017.
Most have help they can access from fam and friends, we did not. We were in poverty. Qualifying for food stamps when we started. I could not AFFORD to work, because childcare by a stranger would cost more than what I would make starting out. I also stopped studying nursing and clinical psychology to homeschool. It was frustrating to do give up what I wanted at first. Brainwashed with a VERY toxically fem family and NPD boss babe mom. But I am so grateful. It's been 7 years since we left public, but only to charter (who still suggest puberty blockers to students, in our case simply because I said I was not looking forward to puberty with special needs!!!!!!!) It's been two years of full homeschool and what a blessing!
Our kids behavior is improved, social skills, and academics as well as the health of our whole family in terms of bonding. Basic math dictates that if you are away from your kids FT you cannot FT parent. Parent is a verb, not only a noun. "Don't spoil the rod" is about being ACTIVE in GUIDING your kids, keeping them on the right path. Not letting them stray. IT's not about physical abuse. It's about being preventative and protecting them. Best way to do that in terms of education, is homeschool.💞 Homeschool can be almost free with internet, trading materials with other parents, even co-op groups. You can do it! (Unless rare case of single and no friends/ family to help whatsoever)/.

Love your channel!! I’m a teacher and have a baby on the way, and am planning to be a stay at home mom and homeschool. Some kind of think it’s funny that I’m already thinking about this topic, and about curriculum and homeschooling…I grew up homeschooled, and then saw so much working in the school district, and then in private schools. And I just always felt strongly about this, especially after seeing what it’s like in a classroom, I could not be more convinced that the best education I could give my children is under the sound of God’s word and with their parent’s influence.

That’s how it often was for us growing up…but I don’t regret it…I still had to learn about the world as an adult/late teen…and kids learn about sin from their own heart anyway! But it’s better to have that be overshadowed by truth and scripture and the right environment, then put a young child with the flesh and weakness into the battlefield…that’s how my Mama always explained it…

I think you made so many excellent points. I especially love how you mentioned that if they’re always around other peers of the same age then they won’t grow and be challenged to be better and what you said about them being left out! Sometimes being left out isn’t such a bad thing.

I’m reading Hold Onto Your Kids right now as well! I completely agree with what they are saying and that’s me coming as a person who became peer oriented in ways. I think I was a mix of both which is why I’m able to understand and truly believe this is true for life development.

I want to hug you! I've been talking about the awkwardness of socialization a lot lately and in the end, I've always been called weird or even "a child abuser", just because I doubt that my daughter can actually learn something from same aged peers. She's still very young (18 months), but I'm tired of the bullying and hitting (mostly non-verbal) toddlers at the playgrounds in our area. No, not all toddlers exhibit this behavior, but she is also not really learning from them either, because kids at that age parallel play... How are kids at this age supposed to figure out how to take turns or resolve conflicts? It's always a show and tell by the parents, but at the rate this happens, this doesn't seem to be a lasting learning experience for the toddlers. None of them have the capacity yet(!) to "properly socialize" with peers their age. So, what do you get? Crying toddlers, pushing, hitting, kids being yelled at by well-meaning parents because they simply don't understand the idea of taking turns or personal belongings. Not my idea of a "good socialization" of my daughter... Instead, she naturally gravitates to older children and simply watches them and copies what they are doing and there we go, my daughter learned how to do a somersault simply by observing a much older child, after being pushed off the slide by a child her own age.
Sorry for the rant, but I needed to get this off my chest. Thank you for making me feel heard and understood.
I agree with all of this! If people agree with you then they have to challenge themselves to change what they’re doing so there will always be resistance!!
I'm pretty sure the book you quoted was Homeschool Bravely. Loved hearing your thoughts. I completely agree with you on kids socializing with kids of different ages. This does provide a different level of growth, learning and maturity. This journey is so different for every parent and child. Being concerned about your child being socially awkward or not knowing how to be in certain settings is a real concern. But remembering that them not being part of the negative impacts of being in a large public school environment is also something to think about. Being able to know who their friends are so important when it comes to their socialization. You gave so much great information in this video!
It’s so true! I have encountered many kids who struggle with social norms. I didn’t mention this, but I actually think it has more to do with too much screen time than not going to school. I think I don’t worry about my kids because they are around so many people between family members, church, etc.

We homeschooled our daughter until k5 and then decided to send her to a “Christian” school. It has been the complete opposite of what we are supposed to represent as God fearing people. Our daughter is in third grade now. The kids are too grown and mean. Plus, my daughter has expressed how immature they are. We are going back to homeschooling.

Thank you for sharing this! I am about to start my homeschool journey with 3 Littles and have been trying to get my family on board. They are coming around and starting to voice support which means the world to me. But THIS video is 100% what is in my heart. I love my kids and want to protect them from the over sexualizstion of our culture, peer pressure, and social media. Hi Christina, I'm new here. I am a homeschooling mom of a 14 year old son. I also have a 25 year old daughter who is married and has a one-year-old, so I am also a new grandmother. It is affirming to hear this message. I've always had a good relationship with my son, but it has been tested quite a bit as of late. Not many are like-minded, which makes me seem like a 'weird' mom, lol. I am just seeking the Lord for wisdom because I know these are crucial years. I feel a great sense of responsibility as a mom and as a homeschooling mom. 🙏

I am 81years old and need to say life has changed. I wasn’t very agreeable when my great grandchildren started to be homeschooled. But I have to say it’s nice not to hear the drama I hear about from my friends While the kids are at school.there also is no need to be competitive in cloths and shoes. They can decide what they want to wear without any criticism from their peers.My great grandchildren love homeschooling

I generally love the Daily Grace Co. Just to mention, they aren't biblically accurate when it comes to holidays vs appointed holy days. We are grafted into fulfillment of the law, not abolishment. 💖 Christmas is Saturnalia (the Catholic church used this as well as depicting Jesus as Saturn, and YHWH as Jupiter), Jesus was born during Sukkot, dwelling in human flesh for us. He is perfectly enlivening all of the appointed holy days.

This was so helpful for where we are in our homeschool journey. My oldest desperately want to go back to public school because she misses being with friends all day. I want her to be happy but I also agree with everything you just said. How can she mature to a healthy young adult when surrounded by immature peers all day. Such a good perspective!

Speaking of homeschool kids being "left out" or "weird".... Dunno if my husband was joking or not he said to me once that our daughter isn't going to get her own cell phone till she's 18. The more i research into all these toxic things going on with kids and teens these days, yes I don't want my kid to have a phone that early. I hear this from parents a lot..... Oh my kid needs ro walk home from school at 10 years old so needs their own phone. Not a good excuse. They can get a basic flip phone if they need. Or my kid is in church youth group or goes to dance, soccer etc. Lots of ways to access a phone by asking an adult who runs those programs let's say parents are late picking up.

This was encouraging to me. I want to homeschool but I agonize about the socialization because I was a homeschool kid and while most of that experience was good there were aspects that were really not, we were very isolated and sheltered and it became painful for me when I was a teen. When my parents put me in School the adjustment was also painful for me. But I also had a narcissistic parent and parents that were overly afraid of the world and it made things weird for me and I now suffer from an anxiety disorder. So I always figures I'd put my kid in school to help with the social growing pains and potential social anxiety. However I've seen signs of anxiety in my daughter about grades so we haven't really escaped anxiety. She is fairly socially well rounded but wants to homeschool bc the school day is so long and I don't trust the school system and I have made strides in recovering from my anxiety disorder. I really want to try homeschool again (we homeschooled thru kindergarten) but I don't want to do to her what homeschool did to me. But i believe it's bc of homeschool I have always been a free thinker and I have always liked learning. Maybe even if we don't get out as much as we like maybe it's still better than letting a group of peers raise my child.

We have 6 children, ages 2, 5, 7, 10, 13 and 16. We have homeschooled since our oldest began grade 1. Since halfway through last school year, my oldest began attending public school, as we couldn't offer him the type of education that he was leaning toward, which is electronics and technology. But the whole time since he's been in, there has been nothing but drama, and downright bullying towards him. I've seen how peers have influenced him (even ones that bullied him), and how he so easily began to take their word more seriously than ours. We thought he had a good head on his shoulders, and a solid foundation in the Word, but that didn't seem to be enough to stop him making some really bad decisions and going down a darker path. Thankfully, by God's grace, he has started to come around again to his former self more, but I still see how easily he is influenced by peers, even at almost 17 years old.
We live in the country, with only 1 vehicle that my husband uses to get to work and back, and no real support system around, so we felt it necessary to let him go to public school, so he wasn't just floundering around the house, doing whatever I could muster up for him. But if I had any other choice, we wouldn't have. God is in control, so I need to trust that He will work everything together for good. But, I don't think we will be letting our other children go to public school. It just gets worse every year with the world's humanist agenda becoming more and more prevalent.
I will just try harder to provide them with the education they need. Which now that we're more settled in our forever home, and not having any more babies, I should be able to do.

It's not the society that does not reinfoce attachment bound, it's familly that gave up or never tryped. Somehow the society is just compose of all the family.

I 💯 agree with you on this. I am pregnant with my first child and am looking to homeschool him when he’s older. Firstly, yes, my home will be a loving environment for him. Also, it is a FACT that schools are terrible for boys. I know, I’m a product of public schooling myself. Teachers hated boys. They were active, disruptive, unruly. Schools do not have the tools to deal with boys. Their one go-to solution for everything is medication these days, and it’s a fact that more boys than girls are recommended for ADHD meds than girls. All the traits that are valued most in schools are female traits. It’s why you see boys graduating at a lesser rate than girls. They’re going to college at lesser rates than girls now. More and more, we see men dropping out from society in general, they’re more likely to be unemployed, mentally ill, alone, and lonely than women these days.
I want to help foster a good learning environment for my son as soon as he’s born. I want him to love learning and pursue his interests without some teacher or other student telling him he can’t do it. And if he wants to run around, play, whatever he can. Schools these days don’t even provide recess time anymore to students. Many don’t even provide extracurriculars anymore. So I ask, what socialization are kids even getting at school? It’s a stupid concern imo.

I have an only child so this is tricky for me. Because my daughter complains about being an only child. Public school is no longer an option. I just pray god can give me wisdom because I don’t know anyone else with an only child and how to navigate homeschool.
I never use Facebook anymore but when I was looking for local homeschool community I thought there was none and then I looked on Facebook and found so many groups!

I’m starting my both children in September grade 6 and 8 . Wondering if I should homeschool them till grade 10 and then send them to school for grade 11-12 . As some people said they will miss experience of graduation and they don’t get credit . Someone please guide me
@@Positive-vf5fm I had an eleventh grader this school year and he will continue our through his senior year next year. An hour long graduation ceremony is not a huge loss compared to a year of living life! That’s my stance 🙂
Another thing about how they push peer culture, have you ever seen these shows on Disney or whatever? The kids in them treat the parents as if they are a joke in their lives and it bothers me so much.

I am really considering removing my boys for public school. I decided to enroll them in school this year pre-k and Kindergarten. They both complain about not learning anything or not learning anything new, complaining about the teacher not being nice. Now the school is complaining when I keep my boys home when they are sick. To make things worse, the first week of school my 6 years old came home talking about kissing. Jesus is Lord over our children.

I’ve been considering homeschooling as well (I was homeschooled). My kids were in public school this year and I had CPS from the school call me because they were home sick to much this year…… the school system is out of control now and everyone is always sick so of course my kids are chronically sick!
