Sorry? You got to meet NICK MASON??? WHAT? That is so cool! Nick Mason's drumming is so wonderful and I love him so much. As a musician who writes all our band's songs, and is unfortunately forced to play some crappy drums, I have come to respect Nick Mason's perfect feel and technique more and more!
My wife and I were fortunate enough to be 2nd row center for the Saucerful of Secrets show in Vancouver in 2022. Wow! Thrill of a lifetime show for us. They breathe new life into this material and make it something really special to hear live.
My introduction to Gilmour was in fact RATTLE THAT LOCK! So I'm excited to know about it... his producing sensibilities, and the songwriting team is great on it. Favorites tracks are Rattle and Girl in the Yellow Dress! I also enjoyed the REDUX. Grandiose gift to the anniversary, in my opinion, higher than what the PF brand did to celebrate it. For its release I used to listen very EARLY in the morning when it was still dark around, before the sun would rise at its end. Calculating a better atmosphere to listen to it. And I love Nick Mason's band :3c I watched its concerts and saw clips with the band and the chesmistry is palpable.
My 2 tickets to Roger's show in Columbus, Ohio were 70 dollars total. I did get them literally the day the tour opened so that might have been part of it.
I saw Saucerful of Secrets in September last year, was genuinely one of the best shows I've been to. Just magnificent actually hearing those songs live and Nick was in truly top form, and hearing Echoes live, particularly the way they do it, was a bucket list ticker!
I absolutely love DSOTM Redux. It’s it’s own thing and it just works for me. It really does leave you with a deeper sense and understanding of what the original was all about. Which, it seems was Rogers goal.
Roger also released The Lockdown Sessions, a selection of songs used as encores during the tour for Is this the life we really want, and which due to the pandemic, brought about a change in the recording dynamic which influenced the style when it came to the Dark Side of the Moon redux. I really enjoyed The Lockdown Sessions, which I ordered just out of curiosity when I preordered the Redux. Not original songs but I really enjoyed some versions, especially the ones from Final Cut.
Rattle That Lock had so much more rhythmic energy throughout than the lethargic On An Island. Much better album to my ears. Redux was a truly dreadful listen. Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets is really excellent. Love their blu ray.
I agree that Rattle that Lock is more energetic than On an Island. I'm a huge DG fan, and all of his solo album are musically beautiful and emotional. However, I remember being disappointed by how sedate On an Island was when released. It's grown on me since but definitely think Rattle that Lock was an improvement.
I agree with you about Rattle Tgat Lock bring better than the studio version of On An Island for the same reason you mentioned. It's very sedate, but I think that was what he was trying to do. The live version of OAI is far better and more engaging though. Especially the Remember That Night DVD release. It's fantastic. I would rate the live version better than Rattle That Lock, and I'm a fan of the album.
I guess it depends what you prefer. Subjectively, I like that dreamy nature of On An Island. Objectively though, I would say On An Island is a slightly better put together album. Like it has a better defined direction, even if you might not agree with the direction itself. Rattle That Lock seems more like a pop album, with semi-random songs thrown together. Good songs, for sure, but not really tied together all that well.
@@CristiNeagu All good points. Ultimately, it came down to the songs for me. Overall, I preferred the tunes on Rattle That Lock (On An Island had a better title track though).
Nick was supposed to play a show near me in 2021, but when the tour was postponed, that show was one of three that was cut. I really hope he does another show around here sooner or later, as I'm too young to have seen any Pink Floyd or David shows before.
Unfortunately these days it's pretty impossible to get in on a David Gilmour concert. I'm not sure he's even touring, and if he does, it will be to small audiences with huge ticket prices. So yeah, that ship has sailed, unfortunately.
I was fortunate enough to see Nick Mason's Saucer Full of Secrets perform Echoes for the very first time in front of a live audience, Dublin Ireland. Chills wemt down my spine as i wasn't even anticipating it ❤
I saw David Gilmour in 2016 at the Hollywood Bowl it was the best show i have ever seen in my whole life. Better than rogers tours and nick masons group. Dave really knows how to make the sound absolutely perfect hires the best crews and the best lights and lasers. Best show of my whole life. Shine on.
In all seriousness, as someone who lives in AZ and has been a fan of your Pink Floyd content & original music; I want to catch a Pompeii Floyd show whenever I see an opportunity for myself to fly to New York, I'm sure there are many great things to do visiting NY but whenever I plan that visit(I don't see it happening in the foreseeable future), I want to do it within a weekend that you and your band have a gig I can catch.
I’ll be honest, DSOTM Redux was surprisingly decent, and the last 3 songs worked really well for what Roger was going for. I also really like Rattle That Lock.
Is This The Life We really Want? is like a listening book kinda experience initially but then just like every Pink Floyd album you will be able to find moments in it and then it really sounded like an album which i usually listen. Thank God I am not an instrumentalist or a sound engineer to find production errors.
I saw Nick in Indy!! Great show!! You’re right, thier rendition of Echoes is one for the ages!! I’m also curious, did you decide to for go ranking their solo records or will you still do that just not as a part of the main series?
I've heard all of both David and Roger's solo albums the only ones I enjoyed and still have are david s first solo album and Roger's amused to death album.
Saw Rog in September of 2022 and Mason a month later. Roger's show was alright but the first set clearly had pre-recorded vocals and the entire show had bad vocal mixing- I couldn't hear any of the words to songs I hadn't listened to as much! Not to mention the neutered versions of Bravery of Being out of Range, Comfortably Numb, and the Powers That Be with its goofy video that looked like a CSGO movie. Mason's band was AMAZING! Incredible versions of AHM, Candy and a Currant Bun and See Emily Play with good vocals and strong instrumentals. Rog takes himself too seriously on his live shows.
I throw on the redux of dark side whenever I wanna sit back and just reflect on myself, it really helps me think clearly. I especially love the remake of 'Time', it's a standout for me. It's not something you'd listen to casually, which I believe wasn't the intention anyway. I'd say it's similar to The Endless River, how you need to be in the right mindset for it. It's not terrible at all in my opinion, but it's certainty not for a casual pink floyd listener.
I feel so conflicted about Roger. On the one hand, his live shows have been spectacular and I'm incredibly grateful that I've been able to experience Pink Floyd's majesty thanks to him. I also think the way he's been misrepresented and vilified in the press is awfully unfair and undeserved. But on the other hand, while I don't necessarily *disagree* with (some of) his opinions, I wish he would just shut up about politics at this point. Nobody cares what an 80-year old rock star whose relevancy on the world stage ended somewhere in the '80s thinks about current-day events, and all it accomplishes is to sully his legacy, to make life difficult for himself, and to sour relations with the people who mattered most to him. Nick has got the right idea: at this point, you should simply celebrate your past accomplishments, be thankful that you're still able to perform, and just *have fun* with it all while it lasts. No need to over-complicate things.
I've seen Roger and and i don't think I'll ever get to see Gilmour though I'd love to see Nick. Rogers show really was a spectacle with an amazingly accurate sounding band. I do think the fanbase being so divided on sides is so stupid. Od say if you're a fan of floyd and want to see some live Roger or Nock are great options. I had no complaints about rogers show and i was to one of the ones with the political opinions disclaimer. Definitely the best theatrical concert ive ever seen. As far as DSOTM Redux i dont think its amazing but it isnt bad by any means. It is interesting to see an 80yo point of view looking back on his younger self and his younger selfs thoughts.
8:08 Yes, this is the moment you’ve all been waiting for- Goes to a chocolate advertisement. No joke, that literally happened to me. For some reason, I tend to enjoy Roger’s 2017 album. I guess the production doesn’t bother me, and in a way, it makes sense for the album to sound like that.
I find Rattle That Lock to be a solid album from start to finish. On An Island is a bit too mellow for my taste, but Rattle That Lock has great variation from one song to the next, and is much more energizing. From Gilmour's solo albums, it is Rattle That Lock and his first solo album that I listen to the most often.
It’s kinda funny that it would be Nick that has the last laugh. I saw him twice here in Vancouver. That first time was incredible. When a show opens with Interstellar Overdrive you know something is up. Roger and Dave need each other. What’s the saying? The whole doesn’t equal the parts? The parts don’t equal the whole? The whole is equal to the parts? Something like that. 🤔
I saw both Nick Mason saucerful of secrets echoes and Roger Waters This is not a drill in Montreal and Quebec city and wow both magnificent shows! Honnestly i quite enjoy is this the life we really want i find it very beautiful, that said i understand why some Would not like it!
I really like the Redux. You gotta see it in the view of “old man reflecting on his life” and it makes a lot more sense. I loved Great Gig’s story. Money was absolutely crap but the rest ain’t bad - Breathe is really nice. Any Colour You Like was ruined by the spoken word though
It's nice to have some critique of Is This The Life We Really Want that goes beyond the surface level 'Nigel G wanted to make a Pink Floyd record' sentiment (even though I don't think that particular thing is inaccurate, I just think it's a bit shallow). I like the album but it's a bit of a weird fit.
To be honest dsotm redux is a fantastic album like roger said it does feel like if pink floyd made dsotm now it would sound like that sad and also it has a lot of references with death and to roger waters pain. People definitely needs to hear it and not care about the 70s dark side. This is a separate album.
It's grown on me to be honest. Obviously I don't listen to it very often, but it's a nice record to throw on when you wanna just sit down with your thoughts. It's definitely not for casual listening, but that wasn't the intention anyway
I feel like Is This The Life was the big chance for Roger to finally let Snowy have a go - especially since he was retiring. That would’ve been a delight all around. …Instead we got zero guitar solos.
I would far rather see Nick's Band as I did in a great stand-up venue in Melbourne than Roger or David's stuff. There is something pure about 67-72 Floyd before everything changed with DSOTM.
Without wanting to get political, it's funny how the press suddenly took notice of Roger wearing a leather coat during performance of songs from The Wall as if it was something new devoid of any context, as if it was not part of a theatrical performance going back to the 80s. Good way to enlist those who have no idea what The Wall was about.
@@JTCurtisMusic The Yardbird trifecta was needed. I am a huge Floyd and Zeppelin fan. Jimmy Page is one of my favorite guitarists and his solos would have made the tracks stand out and having Deja Vu Reprise should have ended the album ala Scary Monsters from Bowie and Animals by Floyd and begin with a Page solo with either a Les Paul or B bender Telecaster into the song.
Wait for Her/Part of Me Died is pretty good. I would have found listening to how Waters would have handled all the vocals on Dark Side interesting. Time solo and the piano on Great Gig. Things like that are such a big part of the album. You gotta admit Waters picks great subject matter for the lyrics.
I think the dark side dedux was not that bad. I mean is not the best but in Roger Waters being80 years old I really appreciate his effort. If we stay saying there work is not as good as there work before how there are supposed to have motivation for another album. As a musician my self I know how mush heart they put into making this record’s for us to enjoy. Believe my they have a lot of money and they don’t need to make more with a new album. They are making it for us and I think we should be thankful to them. Very cool that you meet Nick and the crew. My favourite solo work from Pink Floyd members is rattle that lock. It’s the part of pink Floyd sound that I really like.
I do not consider Waters 'Reimagined' (as he calls it) DSOTM the same record, nor related to it on any level except for the title. I have the Vinyl of Nick's band, it is pretty good!
I thought "Is This The Life We Want?" was a great album, not quite as good as "Amused to Death" but pretty close - its definitely an ear-worm if you give it a long enough chance.
The recent and Waters and Gilmour albums really haven't done much for me. Rattle that Lock studio seems to missing a spark to it. Though Live at Pompei it really comes to life. Nick Mason at The Roundhouse is phenomenal Dark Side Redux should not exist.
Surprised you didn't rate Rattle that Lock higher. It's a consistently emotive, and is probably my favorite solo album. Lots of lyrical guitar work but also I appreciate the variety of styles displayed on the album. As for Is This the Life We Really Want, I agree that it's difficult to listen to a whole album with Waters' weary voice, and lot of it sounded like Floyd themes recycled from the 70s. There are some good pieces on there but no enough for me to revisit it much. As for the redux of Dark Side, it sounds like Waters is not even trying to sing rather he is reciting the lyrics as if he's a beat poet and the music is merely a staid background devoid of the dynamics that made the original one of the greatest albums of all time. As someone who once defended him, politically Waters has also lost it. Someone must have taken his marbles away.
I actually love the redux, and find it to be a more enjoyable listen than the original. This one hits because the lyrics make you feel ways without the music taking away from it
I don't think David wants to do music any more. I think everything he does these days is for his family and for himself. Yes I Have Ghosts only exists because it promotes Polly and Romany. Roger... I'm not sure exactly what Roger wants. Maybe he wants to establish himself and THE Pink Floyd. He wants to show everyone that if you want to see Pink Floyd you have to go see him, not David. Or maybe he just likes to play live. Or maybe both. But yeah, Nick is definitely coming up on top. He stayed true to what the band has always been, and it seems to me that he's doing those shows because he genuinely enjoys bringing that music to an audience.
@@CristiNeagu I mean David certainly doesn't need to. Outside of Floyd's classic era, he lead two massive Pink Floyd Tours, his own solo tour with Rick and another tour in 2015 - 16 while still playing and singing at the top of his game. That's an amazing achievement really. He's earned the right to just sit back and enjoy his retirement years.
Finally someone who doesn’t polish Roger’s apple for “The Life We..” I find it to be a very mediocre album, as all of his solo Albums. You really have his amazing lyrics but it’s clear that he can’t make the music work without David, as David can’t make his songs work without Roger’s lyrics as well, but to me Roger is becoming some kind of Bob Dylan, with this incredibly long song with little music and a lot of talking To me it proves thar Pink Floyd was far bigger than the sum of its parts
@@JTCurtisMusicJeff Beck single handedly saved that album. Without his guitar work, it would have been another mediocre showing from Roger. Like the OP says, Roger needs David's guitar, and David needs Roger's lyrics.
Dark Side Redux was genuinely terrible. I’ve seen court cases with more singing than this album. It’s like if you crossed Dark Side with the worst song off final cut then take it time 10. No question one of, if not the worst thing any member of Pink Floyd has put out, solo or otherwise. Congrats Roger, you managed to top Several Species for the worst thing you’ve released.
@@johnlauracave8169I love Roger’s solo work but the redux is just kinda bad for the most part. It wouldn’t have been as bad if he’d just done one or two songs for another “lockdown sessions” type album. But the entirety of it is pretty bad IMO
Rattle That Lock is a nice album, but not as good as On An Island. I love most tracks from it, but it's not as convincing a package as On An Island. 5am, Beauty, Today, A Boat Lies Waiting are all great songs. Yes I Have Ghosts is a beautiful song. Is This The Life We Really Want is... a dumpster fire. Went through this album once, only liked Picture That, and threw it in my digital dumpster. It used to be that Roger set lyrics and a bit of activism on to music. But this album was politics all throughout, with a bit of music on top. Not to mention that he's a bit hypocritical, seeing as he claims to be anti war but also demonizing the only anti war president in over seven decades. I admit that I didn't bother with DSotM Redux. The original is still good. Don't need a new one. And while I applaud Nick Mason's show and I like how it's bringing back the classics. I admit, it's not my cuppa, but I definitely appreciate it. To be honest, this is what Pink Floyd should still be doing.
Roger's politics are on point; his recent recordings, not so much. the Gaza War is about a CANAL b.t.w. and 30+ years of Apartheid? Moses would NOT approve..
Roger's politics are backwards. Not only is he claiming to be anti war while also demonizing the only anti war US president in over 70 years, but he fails to see what on Earth is actually happening in Israel, as do a lot of people. How you can call it an apartheid is beyond me. You do know that there's Palestinians in Israel's government, right? Elected, and serving in an official capacity in the government. How is that an apartheid?
Just like other bands such as queen or the who, pink floyd could never work out the band was greater than its sum of parts. Solo output from all those band members is/was awful.
Roger Waters’ “Is This The Life We Really Want?” is awful and “Dark Side Redux” is an absolute abomination. Other than the Pink Floyd reunion, Roger’s solo career is a total waste.
@@Logan912 I don’t think it’s anywhere near as good as the Pink Floyd albums. Like all of Roger’s work I find it preachy and pretentious without enough musicality to make it worthwhile

It's the homestretch now. 👀
I genuinely like the DSOTM Redux. My opinions are terrible, though.
I enjoyed the spoken word section in money, very “big science” by Laurie Anderson
I should have co-produced Roger’s ITTLWRW and made sure the Yardbird trifecta was completed with Jimmy Page soloing his ass off.
@@TJR-ClassicRockCorner0124 an intriguing thought!
Rattle is very good. You have erected a barrier.
I really love Roger's solo version of Comfortably Numb but I can't say the same for the rest of his solo remakes.
I do not consider Waters 'Reimagined' (as he calls it) DSOTM the same record, nor related to it on any level except for the title. I have the Vinyl of Nick's band, it is pretty good!
I'd take Jon Carin's claims with a grain of salt. Everytime he gets asked about his claims, he'd block people off of his social media.
I actually quite liked the Redux , it's not as good as the original obviously. But it's got its charm.
Nick Mason at The Roundhouse is phenomenal
Dark Side Redux should not exist.
This one hits because the lyrics make you feel ways without the music taking away from it
So this video proves that Nick's a chad in contrast to Roger and David who are both virgins.
Nick made 2 more albums in 2023.
Finally someone who doesn’t polish Roger’s apple for “The Life We..” I find it to be a very mediocre album, as all of his solo Albums. You really have his amazing lyrics but it’s clear that he can’t make the music work without David, as David can’t make his songs work without Roger’s lyrics as well, but to me Roger is becoming some kind of Bob Dylan, with this incredibly long song with little music and a lot of talking
To me it proves thar Pink Floyd was far bigger than the sum of its parts
I stand by that Amused To Death is a good album and having Jeff Beck on guitar is the next best thing to David.
@@JTCurtisMusicJeff Beck single handedly saved that album. Without his guitar work, it would have been another mediocre showing from Roger. Like the OP says, Roger needs David's guitar, and David needs Roger's lyrics.
TLWRW was a dumpster fire.
@@CristiNeagu😂😂😂
Is This The Life We Really Want is a concept album about drone warfare and society's collective indiference towards political issues
... in which Waters shows how tone deaf he is by claiming to be anti war but also demonizing the only anti war US president in over 70 years.
@@CristiNeagu you are genuinely supid if you believe Trump is anti war or that he didn't drone strike the shit out of foreign countries
@@gwimbly519 Yeah his drone strikes were even higher than Obama's in two terms. Not to mention his war here at home.
I couldn’t stand redux. I might appreciate Roger adding his spoken word poetry to it IF could understand what he was saying.
As much as I really dislike the redux I still wouldn’t say it’s worse than several species that is probably the worst “song” ever created
@@josephst.george7841that’s fair, also it’s nice to see someone who didn’t like the redux. Everyone in the comment section so far has liked.
@@johnlauracave8169I love Roger’s solo work but the redux is just kinda bad for the most part. It wouldn’t have been as bad if he’d just done one or two songs for another “lockdown sessions” type album. But the entirety of it is pretty bad IMO
I freaking LOVE Several Species Of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together In A Cave And Grooving With A Pict
Dark side of Roger's Ego
Treat DSOTM Redux as an anti-Floyd album, it becomes far more palettable
David os working o. A New album. Maybe Roger do something New. Great news, even o don't haver to much Hope about this.
I don't want to hear waters political opinions. Thats why I'll never waste a penny on him.
Too poor for rogers show? I didnt pay that much extra for his show vs nicks and i still live with my dad
NYC prices...
@@JTCurtisMusic oh. Yeah that makes sense. And I guess you gotta factor in time and demand too
Roger's politics are on point; his recent recordings, not so much. the Gaza War is about a CANAL b.t.w. and 30+ years of Apartheid?
I wouldn’t say that it’s a total waste. Amused To Death is easily among the best albums he’s ever worked on including Pink Floyd’s 70s albums.
@@Logan912 I don’t think it’s anywhere near as good as the Pink Floyd albums. Like all of Roger’s work I find it preachy and pretentious without enough musicality to make it worthwhile
