I even had my name mentioned once in a sermon many years ago and I had to threaten them with a ceast and desist letter. That was years after I left. No reason to even mention me, but they did. So dont tell me about how great and godly they are. I know first hand its BS. It's a cult or at least operates as a cult. Why do you think they wont let their staff of member talk to the press? For nothing? Its because they are afraid the truth will come out. Duh.

I am no fan of FBCH - but you have to give credit where credit is due. Wilkerson inherited a mess that is beyond comprehension, that no pastor in his right mind would want to walk into. If he says one thing, he angers the Hyles elites and loyalists, if another, the multitudes who oppose Hyles and his shenanigans. I personally would like to see him address the mess Hyles left behind, own up to it, make restitution where possible, and publicly distance himself from Hyles, his methods, and his doctrinal deviations. Is that the goal of this protest, or just to embarrass and expose them? If the current pastor is trying to address these issues in the best way he can, will it help or hinder his efforts?
I agree with you 100%. I am no fan of this church or movement but I very much appreciate this response of his. Hopefully there is reform in the IFB from this.
I agree that him making an actual stand would make either the die hard IFBers or haters angry. What happened to doing what is right? Doesn’t matter if he makes Lapina, Vogel, and the rest of them mad. They got caught through that documentary when they would not speak to that woman. If Wilkerson was different than Hyles and Schaap he would have sat down and talked openly with her. But here we are…again.

The evidence that Gods hand is upon first Baptist and pastor Wilkerson is there. 1. Thousands of souls are being saved 2. Hundreds of people are being trained to serve the Lord. 3. Peoples lives are being changed. (Personally know some of them) 4. Church is still standing Matthew 16:18 “ And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” By the way pastor John Wilkerson is probably the most humble man I’ve met Also for those saying the victims need justice not the healing of Jesus, in my life I’ve received many injustices but Jesus has given me peace and heal. The most important thing is healing though Jesus because we can have justice but not healing and still live an angry bitter life. Don’t get me wrong I support the victims in their hurt but there’s a right way to do things. After all, we will ultimately give an account to God of our decisions regardless of our circumstances. We cannot blame others for our decisions
I can tell by statements like this these problems will never be fixed and are a core staple of not only this church but the entire denomination as a whole. No doubt 25 years from now an entire new generation of victims will be trying to speak up
It’s very hard to listen to anyone associated with this place. I love how he kept saying we must love them and show them Christ. Well, I’d say your first step, sir, is to listen to the stories! Stand there and listen to the pain and hurt! No one who’s been hurt wants a private meeting especially since it was silenced and swept under the rug for so long! I wish I lived closer! I’d be there in a heartbeat!!!!

The church is going to spank the people who are accused of abuse... 😂 legal justice is administered by the legal justice system. You don't want any religious instutution dispensing legal resolutions.
I was born and raised a baptist. The hyles crowd has never been what I’m involved in, in fact I’ve been encouraged away from them all my life. The problem with church people is we trust anybody with our children. There are people in my church that I love, but I don’t trust any of them with my children. People rightfully cry out about these abuses in churches but it is in every aspect of society today. For every Catholic pedophile, there are 100 pedophiles in public schools. Perverts are attracted to environments where people are trusting of one another. Many preachers that I’ve been around warned about this kind of stuff, even 70 years ago. Joe Parsons ( a North Carolina preacher) used to make everyone mad when he would preach about perverts infiltrating churches, and that was in the 1950’s and 1960’s. I try not to be a complete weirdo but I don’t trust every nice person that comes along with my children.
I am deeply sorry for anyone that has been led astray from the faith due to the wickedness of men. I pray the Lord mends the hearts of those that were broken and calls out to you all. Remember, the sheep know the voice of their shepherd. The ultimate goal of satan is to draw you away from Abba - please, I beg of you to not allow that to happen. If you truly study the Word of God and pray for discernment, wisdom, and understanding, you will realize that God never lets us down. He leaves the 99 to redeem that one lost sheep. I love you, my brothers and sisters. Let us always keep our eyes on the Lord, He is worthy and He is waiting for us to rejoice in His presence.
Fundamentalist religion doesn’t have problems. *Fundamentalist religion is the problem.* It is a wicked and cancerous system in any religion. If god were real he would have put a stop to it eons ago, in addition to showing the F up. But since this god won’t tell his follower to stop being aiyholles, I can’t respect this god because he is either as wicked as they are or he doesn’t exist. And after reading the Bible, none of those two possibilities would surprise me.
Wilkerson needs to condemn Hyles and his crowd that have covered up the abuse that still goes on. it started with Hyles and that's where true contrition would be visible.
He would have to fire Moffitt and Lapina if he did that. There are videos of them praising a convicted pedophile in 93. They are part of the great coverups. Google: Hyles and AV Ballenger fundraising Banquet 1993. Then look at the list of presenters.
Kindly said, Pastor Wilkerson is not God and it is not his place to condemn anybody. He is doing the right thing not to condemn others. 𝑴𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒘 𝟕:𝟏, "𝑱𝒖𝒅𝒈𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒕, 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒚𝒆 𝒃𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒋𝒖𝒅𝒈𝒆𝒅." Brother Wilkerson was working 2,500 miles away before he became the pastor of FBCH. You're assuming that Dr. Hyles is guilty based on gossip and hearsay, not facts. It would be very wrong for Pastor Wilkerson to condemn a man without having firsthand knowledge, like many of the protesters are doing. The adage is still true: 𝙳𝚘𝚗'𝚝 𝚋𝚎𝚕𝚒𝚎𝚟𝚎 𝚊𝚗𝚢𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚑𝚎𝚊𝚛 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚘𝚗𝚕𝚢 𝚑𝚊𝚕𝚏 𝚘𝚏 𝚠𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚜𝚎𝚎.
This Pastor is a true man of God!! And he obviously is doing what is right and godly for the victims, the church, and most importantly, the name of Christ. Wherever you have an abundance of children, you will draw filthy child molesters. For that reason, there has to be a watchful eye of accountability, which this Pastor has. Love is of God! Nobody will escape molesting children.
Oh yes, obviously, the pastor can be trusted to be his own eye of accountability. After all, the church was accountable to only itself in the past and that worked out well. It is obvious to me, just from the video, that the pastor is a man of Himself, not of God. He refuses to be accountable to anyone. I hope that some prosecutor will inform him that he is accountable to all of the people of Indiana for what his church has done to their children. Not just the molesters, but also their protectors should be in prison.
@TheDaleSwitzer If you didn't listen, here is the reality, over one million people have come through the church at times past. The church is on earth to reach lost, hell bound sinners, man, women, and children who have reached accountability. The devil wants as many souls to live, bread, and die without Christ. The Church is accountable to God then man. The Catholic system is a wellhead of pedophiles. Anywhere children are, the pedophiles will show up, and that will not stop the church from telling the good news of Christ.
I love First Baptist! I love Dr. Hyles! I loved Hyles Anderson College when I was there in 1983! Devil always attacks what God is doing! I stand with Hyles!
The purpose of a public statement by a church is not for people to come on and talk about how much they that church. It’s a time to reflect, grieve, mourn, and repent and seek Justice on the behalf of victims. If you love a church tell them on their church anniversary not when addressing abuse. Also, kicking people out and saying yourE going to call the cops when they asked to speak with the new pastor is NOT SHOWING that you care about them.

The oil dripping of this pitchman could fuel a country. Any statement needs to begin with repentance and a condemnation of the church's past. The fact that their seminary still bears the name of Jack Hyles says it all.
The protest was on behalf of the documentary Let Us Prey. It discussed the rape and sexual assault within the IFB churches. Hyles and Schaap are mentioned heavily in the documentary. Since FBC Hammond is the home base for the IFB, the protest needed to be done there. Some of the people in the documentary attended Hyles Anderson College, including a few victims.
I may have missed it, but I'm pretty sure I didn't hear a single instance of him denouncing the actual abusers. Sympathy for victims =\= calling out the abusers.
I don't believe that was the purpose of the statement. The statement was meant to be vague on purpose. Secondly, because of the legal challenges FBCH may have to face in the future. It probably was crafted by Church attorneys to keep the pastor from accidentally saying something that might be legally challenging, stupid or offensive. The good news I hear is they are not hiding or covering up the abuse anymore.

Notice he said he wouldn't meet people in public, only in private. Also, told people that have been victims to contact the police but immedatley followed it up with church security, church members that are LEO's.

We know, from what has happened in the past, what happens in those "private" meetings. The victim is made to confess their own "sin" (after all they were groomed and allowed it to happen, or dressed immodestly, etc) then the victim is told that in order to not "bring reproach on Christ" that this must be kept quiet. The victim is then guided to a FRIENDLY law enforcement officer (preferably one in the church) who will assist in "not bringing reproach on the church."

@@ChristianMisfits2020 You believe that? What changed so extensively? What new administrative rules were put in place? What new trainings took place? 7 years from now when the CURRENT victims come out, you will say "oh that was in the past". The system that coddled predators remains in place, as proven by this statement by lawyers.
Let Us Prey came out on Max a few months ago. The victims in the documentary were upset that the IFB did nothing to help them. Yet when the documentary came out, IFB stepped up and defended themselves. The victims chose to the protest in front of FBC Hammond and let them know that it was going to happen. So he decided to address it.
This is disgraceful. I did not come to this site with a pre-determined view of how the church is responding, I just wondered if the church of Jack Hyles had done any self-examination. What I find is a statement clearly crafted by a lawyer with a view to minimizing the damage to the church. There is not a speck of repentance. There is not a hint of Psa. 51 mourning and confession. Instead the pastor simply says that all of this is in the past and that they now comply with the law. This is wonderful of them to say that because of their wonderful Christian attitude, they will meet the minimal conditions for not going to jail. Neither will the pastor take any steps toward fixing the structural problems revealed in the documentary. The church in Hammond and the churches that look to Hammond for leadership have clearly had a habit of shaming underage groomed victims and making them feel like they were "also sinning" and were "partially to blame." The church is not doing anything to assure new victims that this will change. In fact the church is re-affirming this stand. Therefore any new victims of your members know that they must keep silent. The church accepts no accountability to any outside authority. We know that there must be other victims who were not willing to have their lives invaded by coming forward. The leadership of the church knows who they are. The church also knows that some of their "past" leaders have unrevealed scandals. These "past" leaders retain informal authority in the church and a residual influence and authority to continue to abuse new victims. The church announces no new effort to look into their history and rectify these scandals eradicate that passive authority or help those silent victims who are still suffering. If I were in Hammond Indiana and had any influence in government. I would be discovering why the District Attorney has not empaneled a grand jury to do the job that the church did not do for itself, though it had many opportunities to do so. The argument that the church has done "a lot of good" through the years is as convincing as saying that riots were "mostly peaceful". Snakes only bite a few people a year and they keep the vermin population down. Even a family of snakes does some good - it is still a nest of vipers.

IFB pastors sound desceptively convincing. I'm not sure what the current sitaution is at FBC Hammond but the church has a long and dark history. @@bchristian85 Damn that is so very true. I never thought of it that way, but I agree and that dopamine goes a long way with the brainwashing included.
What exactly would a protest accomplish? I think the best kind of protest would be for church members to hold the leadership accountable and leave the church, taking their tithes and offerings with them. The point of revealing the truth about these organizations is to help dear people recover themselves, and I fear bad actors and agitators may use the opportunity of a protest to hurt people on either side. We need to use the laws which are already in place to hold the abusers accountable, and continue to educate and inform, protect and comfort. I believe having a place for people in crisis to turn, with resources and information available for victims or whistleblowers to begin the process of holding people accountable for criminal behavior is much more productive than standing on a street corner yelling with signs. If you wanted to fight fire with fire, instead of protesting, you might offer 'tracts' detailing the abuse and behavior, as well as post signage in public spaces warning others. On a side note, the only reason the abusers have access is because it is given to them. People who think nothing of putting their children on a bus with complete strangers should not be surprised that bad things can and do happen. The same is true for public/private schooling, sunday school, and nursery/childcare venues. Predators seek these opportunities out, just like wolves case the sheepfold. We will never eradicate wolves, so a better strategy would be to be wiser sheep. Protesting wolves does nothing, it just gives them more access.

I'm so thankful for this statement from Pastor Wilkerson. His support for the victims is very evident. I'm glad he is showing the love of Christ.
But hes lying. I know a bunch of these victims and he and the church hasnt reached out to any of them and when they try they are escorted off the property, their phone numbers are blocked and their letters returned. Duh.
No. This isn't support for the victims. This is being complacent. He knows very well this isn't some small "mistake" by the church. There's YEARS of abuse. He also still supports Hyles and his teachings which are very toxic and so is the the Baptist schools! This church need to be taken down. Period! Ain't no "focus on God" FOCUS ON TRUE JUSTICE AND ACCOUNTABILITY!
The victims have a specific request, come listen to our stories publicly. He refuses this request. That's not support. He instead threatens them with a "private" meeting. They have all already been through these "private" "support" meetings. You know, the meetings that end up with them crying and begging God to forgive them for "their part."
This isn't the Love of Christ.

The same culture Hyles created is alive and well there today. That, in and of itself, is enough to protest.

Also for those saying the victims need justice not the healing of Jesus, in my life I’ve received many injustices but Jesus has given me peace and heal.

It's a cult, not a loving church.
Sexual abuse seems to be a stronghold in this church.

Part of the problem in the IFB movement is a belief that such a thing as a "man of God" even exists. It doesn't.
His ring looks masonic...that's not godly.
Of course you speak in private as not to make fool of yourself.
We know, from what has happened in the past, what happens in those "private" meetings. @@truediva18 thank you, sir.

I think he should acknowledge hyles abuse. Talking nice is nice but not for the victims.
They could help get Dave Hyles in prison. For rape. That would partially help. And Jon Jenkins and Bruce Goddard, for their cover ups.

And no public forum because you want to hear us in your offices? What a joke. WE'VE BEEN IN YOUR OFFICES.
My parents went to Jack Hyles' office in 1980 with a letter from Dave to me, where he was soliciting me. Proof in hand of Dave's intent. Nothing was done.
We've been in your offices and now want your offices closed.
It is hard to deal with a sin your son is commiting when you are having an affair yourself! That was the problem!
It sounded like it was a nightmare there. As I have heard it "when the head is sick the body will be sick too!"
Thank you for your testimony concerning the Hyles'! As I said I have pretty well followed the Hyles' issue starting in 1988 with "One of the Bights of Bigness" by the late Dr.Robert L. Sumner.
I am praying now that I can find an inexpensive copy of the books "The Wizard of God" by the late Vic Nischik and "Fundamental Seduction" by Voyle Grover!
God bless you.
The guy died decades ago.
Hyles died in 2001during heart surgery or shortly after it.
Dave Hyles is not dead. His father,Jack, is gone.
I know that. I should have mention the father's first name to avoid confusion.
It's amazing that these issues persist all these decades later. There is a deep inherent cultural sickness in the IFB movement.
Instead of Christ , listen to the victims , no amount of prayer will solve the hurt they have felt with so many years of trauma and hardship from there horrid people that hurt them. It’s matter of acknowledging making sure those people take accountability
Didn't Jesus tell us to judge something or someone by their fruits? Well, i think this church needs to recognize their fruit is rotten to the core so why would victims go to them for help. He is absolutely clueless and i dont care how sweet he comes across. There is no salvaging a system that creates "men of God" that cant be questioned.
Close them down. Revoke their tax exempt status for not holding true to their mission. Just like the Trump Organization was closed.
This is another wolf in sheep’s clothing.
