I started using weed mats last year around a couple new apple trees. Ants and moles loved it. I noticed from afar that my tree was leaning over and discovered that the critters destroyed the roots.

Thanks for watching and commenting , the weed mats help the moles ? I feel like they would still get under the tree even with weed mats . But I still think the tube is an upgrade regardless for the young tree . Thanks again for the comment 👨🏻👍🏼

@@figandcloverranch5871 Well, my trees are on the edge of a hay field... my theory is the moles can hide from hawks under the mats. But yeah, tree tubes are awesome.

As I understand it, once branches pop out of the top of
the tube, it is time to remove the tube. It has done its job.

For sure a great start . But in deer country . The tubes keep them from rubbing antlers on tree and causing damage . But overall you can let the main trunk thicken up in the tube environment for some years . It’s like its own personal green house .

How many seasons will it take for the tree to provide chestnuts? Thanks for the tips. 👍🏼

Thanks for asking !! My trees look so nice and are growing so well !! I thought 2023 spring was finally my year . But we had a major heat up in April and then ice cold and snow in May! That cold burnt off all my foliage and I think my chestnuts too . Tree rebounded excellent and look lush all summer , but NO chestnuts !! I feel this is gunna be my year 👍🏼👍🏼
