  • Gerry Mulligan: Lullaby de México
Dave Brubeck Quartet featuring Gerry Mulligan
    Dave Brubeck, piano
    Gerry Mulligan, bari sax
    Alan Dawson, drums
    Jack Six, bass
Recorded live in 1969. Introduction by Hugh Downs, Doc Severinson conductor.
After the “Classic Quartet” disbanded in 1967, Dave Brubeck planned to focus his time on composing. However, in 1968, Brubeck formed a new quartet-Jack Six (bass), Alan Dawson (drums), and Gerry Mulligan (sax)-to perform at the second annual Newport Jazz Festival in Mexico.
Gerry and Dave became great friends and they toured together for the next five years, billed as “Dave Brubeck Trio and Gerry Mulligan” or occasionally “Dave Brubeck Trio with Paul Desmond and Gerry Mulligan”.
They toured off and on until 1995, appearing nightly with their own groups and coming together at the end of the set for a duet.
They recorded several albums together most notably “Compadres” from the 1968 tour to Mexico and “Live At The Berlin Philharmonie” in 1970.
