Sounds like Luscinia to me. Don't know where are you from, but it is pretty common here in Ukraine. It is one of Ukrainian national symbols depicted in art and poetry. You also may know it by the name of nightingale
That is just a statement piece. It lacks any sort of functionality. Maybe for very minor jobs, but it's really just for the visual. Looks pretty though.
Never having served in the military, I am unfamiliar with "artillery bands," but that seems like a fine attractive little tabletop anvil for silver or goldsmithing, leatherworking, or some other light duty. Well done!
It's a driving band. It's like an oversized section of the artillery shell that goes into the lands and grooves of the gun barrel to prevent gas escape and increase velocity.
@@user-fz7bl6hq7s It does, the rifling the bands form a seal, but the rifling of the barrel actually goes further than just the band, slightly digging into the shell itself and causing the round to spin.
@user-fz7bl6hq7s The barrel is rifled. Lands and grooves are the term for the profile of the rifling. The rifling spins the projectile to increase stability in flight to increase range and accuracy. The driving band engagement transfers the rotational movement to the projetile.
@@irishwristwatch2487 you just made that up lol most war hammers were small like normal tool hammers, they just had spikes on them for better bite and a long pick end on the back for piercing. The big heavy hammers were called mauls and were more or less normal sledge hammers, never ever seen an anvil used as a head for these even.

I was an Industrial Design major at Uni here in the Pacific Northwest of the US years ago, but our program was part of the Engineering department rather than Fine Arts as it may be elsewhere - so we had a mix of both Studio Art and foundational Engineering practices, including welding, foundry and forming, applied plastics technology, and materials science. I would love to get back into doing casting (either sand or lost wax).

I don't think people realize that an anvil would make a perfect Warhammer head

Its a pretty old warhammer design. Tribes in Britain and other (at the time) Germany used them occasionally. Scots too IIRC

BTW, what's the ration of metals to make brass? And what is the red anvil model made from so it melts away when casting?
