2010 was my last burn. If I had known tickets were more affordable now and easier to get, I would have attended. But, it became so difficult to get tickets and such an elitist event, it lost something of the original vibe.
“Everyone is doing the best they can” This is a great mantra, whether you are buying tickets for an event, frustrated at the grocery store after a long day at work, or on the last day of a long festival. Great words and video dude
This is a good year to gift your extra ticket(s) to someone who can't afford it. You'll have a profound impact on someone's life and you'll relieve yourself the burden of finding a buyer, and the remorse of not getting a full return on what you spent. It is a special kind of asshole that shows up to playa with unused tickets. Don't be that guy.
Good idea. I've been trying on and off to get tickets for years! I finally spent $1600 for 2 tickets and a car pass this uear, spending money I don't have bc the site made it seem like I could return them or sell them rather easy. I wish I had the money to gift them. I tried to sell them, but we decided to just go a couple nights rather than none at all. Maybe I'll get to go another year, but unfortunately it'll probably be several years or this might be a one and done. Boo
Radical inclusion is amazing. We have been going for years. Personally my first year was 2004. Opinions are what they are. With that said after last year and seeing how people forgot the core principles this may be a cleansing of people that treat as a festival rather a living breathing community that comes together to recognize those core principles. Apologies for the soap box.. but man changed my view of the world as a younger person so I hold it dear. Bring it to one and all!! ✌🏼🧡
I wanted to go to Burning man for many years. I tried to buy tickets and was surprised they are that hard to get. As someone outside the US who dont know anyone important it looks impossible. I enjoy peoples videos there. I am sure there will be good ones from 2024 to watch 🙂
I went to BM in 2007, the year that The Man was set on fire Before the Saturday event. They were able to build something smaller and the Man who Burned The Man got busted...lol. My ticket was $48.00...!! It was interesting but certainly NOT WORTH the price of a ticket Today...ridiculous 😅
I’m such a big fan of yours, Halcyon. Your videos helped make my first burn last year AMAZING. Fully prepared and loved the rain. Will we be blessed by your presence on the playa this year?
Hi!!! Yes, I'll be there for the middle of the week. (wed-Sat). Staying at BWB at 3:45 & Esplanade. My 1 event will be the Pink RIde Thursday at noon at Pink Heart (4:45 & Esplanade). and a gratitude circle friday 9:00 pm at BWB. See you at HOME!
Welll, I don't think that is quite the case. It has lots of examples of things not being ideal. But still MANY MANY examples of magic not seen anywhere else.
You'll find in life there is always something to complain and whine about. For the rest of us life is beautiful and burning man is just another part of it. Roll with it, work with it, fix what you can and don't worry, be happy.
I try to assume good intent and went to the burning man every year until a year or after they became "non-profit".. I got to ask, what do the people get paid who now work for $$$? Used to be that most workers were volunteer and only a few got any regular money and it was capped at a very low amount. I ask this because non profits are known for paying bloated salaries to those working there and still keep the logo, "non profit". Then I have to ask, how did all those tickets get for sale at ticket hubs in recent years past for thousands of dollars over list price? and there were not just a few but it looked like these professional sales organizations had large blocks of them. How does that happen? And I have to ask, were theme camps with excess selling their excess for bloated prices and now it has backfired on them? The people have to know..........
maybe this has nothing to do with the weather/climate and more about the price of the tickets. That the market no longer can bare increasing prices to camp in the desert. Or perhaps a generation has passed and there is no longer extreme excitement around this event. Could be the beginning of the end. I don't believe things will get better next year.
No. It will get even better and more beautiful than you can possibly imagine. The only thing that will change is the complaining and sniveling will disappear by those who have never went.😊
The real beauty of burning man is the lack of whining sniveling complaining negative people. For those of us who overcame the simple task of getting tickets it was a blast!
Peter Hamilton has been calmed by your words! My plans changed in the last 4 days and thankfully your wise words will carry to the Playa. All hail, Caleb! 🎉 😊
For those into astrology, Burning Man falls on a Mercury Retrograde every year. That involves problems with communication, planning, predictions, calculations, and preparations.
help me out.. its not on private land its on a old lake bed own by the state whats too keep from camping for free like on blm land park a 1/2 mile away amd just walk on its open desert?
And you left out the most influential part of this phenomena, the deluge which really dampened the spirits of the pay and play crowd and has scared them away. Who wants to pay thousands of dollars and have a survival event? I know true burners stuck together and enjoyed the camaraderie, but would you do it again?
One thing you overlooked is that Hollywood builds allot of art for BM, and allot of industry hasn’t worked in two years because of pandemic then strikes, so allot of industry creatives simply cant afford it this year. Thats at least 20K tickets if not more. Hollywood shuts down for BM.
Agree with everything you're saying. At the same time a legitimate complaint is not "hate". Sending tickets out so late this year was a screw up and it isn't hate to say that. We're just asking that the problem is acknowledged, and something will be done to prevent it in the future. If we all just say everything is fine, then there is no incentive for BMORG to fix things. You can't blame BMORG for trying to unload their tickets, but the impact on some camps, that are out thousand of dollars, may be more than they can handle. Another consideration is how this will change sales next year. People will not rush to buy FOMO tix. Camps will not buy more than they need.
As much as it isn't related, you can go back and look at what happened to NASCAR over the last 15 years. They went from peak sales, endless sell outs, and so on and then one day that went away. They had 50 sellout races at Bristol speedway, example... then one year they didn't, and suddenly everyone stopped having FOMO and just waited. Now events are selling many tickets last minute as people wait until they are sure the weather is good, etc. Many of their tracks, including Daytona, significantly reduced their seating capacity to try to create sell outs again. Now NASCAR races are just about at the level of show up on race day and buy a ticket. Burning Man may have reached that point, and when you remove FOMO, it will change how tickets are purchased and what their real value is in the marketplace. I can picture that for 2025, the early sales numbers will be a lot lower as there is no need for camps to pre-buy a pile of tickets, and that in turn will change other things. STEPS could get more restrictive or stop being meaningful. At some point, the discussion of the ticket prices will come up. It is very expensive, very premium priced event that requires a big commitment in time, energy, and resources. Things are shifting, and they will need to keep ahead.
I really appreciate your take on this. Yes, BMORG kinda failed this year on a couple of levels, but.. it’s not as if it was diabolical. I mean, these actions are obviously harming the org too. It was just bad, or, not-so-well-thought-out decisions. -- Thanks Hal.
I can’t make it this year, but definitely big FOMO on my end! I heard about how hard getting tickets are previously, and hearing that you can buy them removed a lot of buyer anxiety! I truly hope they keep the system like this until next years burn! Thank you for the message, treat people how you want to be treated
Tons of ice, a new sot or two, its the freaking desert ffs, with short lines, and plenty of fuel at Hell to keep the machine running. that seems paramount to me after 12 burns as mv and camp lead. Consider that Hollywood has been shut down for two years and the industry builds and contributes so heavily to BM, thats a big load to the festival. Not as big a loss as loosing your home or biz, but many of my colleague simply cant afford it anymore.
I think there a few factors like higher prices when sf tech is laying off or many, weekend warriors, and selfie obsessed Instagram/RUclips "influencers", and to be seen celebrities and CEOs realized Burning Man takes more work, like self-sufficiency whatever nature throws at the playa. Perhaps there is a silver lining like more of those who come want to be part of an experimental community.

Burning man makes around $50 million in tickets and parking sales and people have to bring everything they need. Its a money thing at the end of the day and an economy that goes through phases. Tickets are very expensive and it requires a lot of time and money to prepare, for an experience, it could be a fantastic experience, but it is just an experience of immagination coming to reality for a short while. It is energy expensive. I rather give all of that, to Jesus, who unlike Burning man, never ends. The world is in too much suffering to spend time on this idolatory.
It appears that interest in this event has peaked. After 7 trips to the Playa, I've moved on to see the world. Money and time are limited. Unsold BM tickets make beautiful book markers. If you go, have a wonder-filled time!

Larry would be so disgusted about what his vision has been bastardized down to.
BM is nothing more than a Coachella at this point.
