Linus Ulmark of the Boston Bruins just did something very rare, and we now have a GOALIE GOAL! We'll talk all that and more on today's NHL hockey video!
*If a goalie manages to get a goal while the other goalie is still in net, I'm pretty sure it'll be one of the greatest (and most embarrassing) Dang-Its ever.*
It's pretty unlikely to ever happen. Why would a goalie with the puck in his own end toss a puck up the ice at the other goalie? It makes no sense. You'd be risking icing, being picked off by other defenders, or having that other goalie make a quick up pass to catch your team out of position. You barely ever see a goalie take a shot at the other goal when the nets empty. I think the Bruins have had 3 attempts this year and that's probably up amongst the highest in the league.
@@exturkconner the one way i could see it is if the opponent is wanting to empty their net, they start skating off and you shoot the puck down extremely quickly making their goalie try to jump back into net while to puck is getting down the ice. But yeah unlikely to happen
Kinda reminds me of the Blackhawks 2013 season! As a Hawks fan that was my fav team and the fact we won against Boston is pretty funny 😂 Much love and shoutout to the Bruins, theyre having a great season and their loyal fans deserve it!
As a Sabres fan I am so happy for Ullmark. I have the upmost respect for Linus and love seeing how successful he’s become on a top tier team. He never had a real chance with us and needed to go elsewhere to succeed so when he did I wasn’t mad at all, it was the right move even if it is a though rival in Boston. I will never root against this dude, this icebeardude 😆
im so happy yall gave him up, I actually didnt like how long the deal was but at 5M per i figured he'd be nuts cuz he played well on yalls team wen yall had no D
@@itsnotcolby When he became a free agent in 2021 Sabres made an offer but he declined. At the time the Sabres were going nowhere and he had to make a decision. He chose to sign with a contender and boy was that the right decision, wasn’t mad at all.
This goal could not have been more of a perfect representation of how both of these teams seasons are going. For Boston, if it can go right, it did. And for Vancouver, well we know what’s happening with vancouver
As a Canucks fan, I couldn't even find it in myself to be upset about it. Excitement over a goalie goal beat the inevitability in my heart of losing to the Bruins. Happy for Ullmark.
That Jose Theodore goal is pretty impressive: from behind the net on a backhand. Interesting trivia point on the Billy Smith goal: he's the only goalie to score a goal in a game his team lost. The reason is obvious. Almost all goalie goals are scored when one team pulls its goalie in the last minute, and that team is already losing, and the goalie goal seals it. Smith's was scored in the middle of a game on a delayed penalty with the goalie pulled. The Rockies went on to win the game. I happened to be watching that night on WOR-TV channel 9 in NY.
I disagree with that Marchand goal being stoppable. That was a beauty through and through. Cut inside and used the defender as a screen then ripped it right side post as the goaltender was rotating.
I totally disagree with your statement that Ulmark had a "dream scenario" for a goalie to take a shot. The ideal situation is NOT when 3 opposing players are within 8 feet and are in front of you! The ideal shooting situation is when the opposing team dumps the puck in and the goalie stops it behind the net and has more time to shoot. I think Ulmark made an incredible shot under pressure and he sure did rifle it! Very cool to see no matter what team you root for!
if you have time you should go back and make a video about the Latvia vs Canada game at the Olympics in 2014. the Latvian goalie put on arguably the greatest single game performances I've ever seen, and it's a shame he only played 3 games in the NHL
3 years,1 month, and 16 days to be exact, since the last goalie goal. Which was scored by Pekka Rinne of the Nashville predators in a 5-2 win against the Chicago blackhawks.
Just a few weeks ago I was thinking to myself “man, just once in my life I want to witness a goalie goal live while I’m watching the game”. Can’t believe it already happened!
Boston's record is 45-8. They still have less than 10 losses all year. They're even more dominant than the 2018 Lightning, and that's saying something. Hopefully, they don't blow it like the 2018 Lightning though.
I know he's a pro. But people don't understand how difficult it is to get that kind of air with a goalie stick. And a strike at the middle of the net too.
I attended the Pens Oilers game last season where Mike Smith just barely missed scoring his second goal. My best friend and I have attended over 75 Pens games and our #1 bucketlist item was to see a goalie goal so when he missed, we were laughably mad that the opposing team didnt score. Some fans around us thought we were crazy.
I remember watching Pekka Rinne's goalie goal on my couch in my living room. Popcorn went everywhere to say the least. Love the content Eck, and go Preds!
Boston's points differential doesn't get brought up enough. They aren't just winning games, they're scoring a ton AND have stellar goaltending. Great stuff Eck keep it up!
I’ve never seen a goalie throw the puck in the air so far down the ice. What a ballsy - and risky - move by Ullmark: way out of his net to toss the puck over 3 opposing players, all reaching up for it.
I'm so pissed. As a Bruins fan I didn't watch this game because I was watching a USHL game at the same time in person! I had the score up but I missed this live!
0:45 Nabby tried to score a goalie goal Friday night at the Sharks Legends game on a manned net as well. That one didn't work out as well (hit an opponent in front, they had a 2-on-0, he made the first couple of saves before they ended up scoring on him).
"We've never seen a goalie score with another goalie in the net" Technically and statistically, when Martin Broduer scored his 3rd goalie goal in 2013, Dan Ellis wasn't off the ice and turned around to try and stop it, so it was credited as Martin Broduer scoring on Dan Ellis
I saw this live and in person. I didn’t even have time to process that Vancouver pulled their goalie before I saw this empty net goalie goal. It all happened so fast! The local fans were groaning over the Canucks’ lack of hustle during the final minutes only to have this happen seconds after they decide to pull the goalie with one minute left in the 3rd. Risky move backfired before I even realized they did anything. Lol. Best Star Wars night ever.
I know us Boston fans say, “this is our year, we are going to win the cup” but I don’t remember the time where we have such a great lineup up and down, I honestly think that if we don’t win this season, than I don’t think we will win one in a long time.
Years ago, when he was in the minors,Cesare Maniago would go stand in front of the other goalie when his team had a big lead and try to score, and he was a goalie.Gary Smith with California Seals, used to skate up past the red line when his team was losing, which was very often, and he was the reason why goalies can't cross the centre ice line now without a penalty.
Imagine being one of the top scoring goalies in the history of the league with just one. I mean an empty net goal is good enough for me, but when it was shot by the other team’s goalie… mmm, icing on the cake, baby.
A couple of notable team comparisons, the Bruins have more home wins than the Canucks have total wins, and the Bruins' goals against average is almost two full goals per game better than the Canucks. Makes one wonder how two franchises could go it such radically different directions after both being at the top of their divisions a decade ago. Interestingly, The Rat Marchand was their nemesis back then and still was last night.
Seeing this live onn Sportsnet was amazing. I decided to watch the last 10 mins of this game or so cuz I was bored and when I saw this I was filled with pure joy. Unreal.
AND the cannots have had this happen to them twice now ... maybe i'm wrong but the only team that has had it happen to them multiple times ... as well as all the greats' milestone goals .. just beautiful ..
0:34 The Vancouver boys were soooo close to swiping the puck out of there. Whole thing looks like a field goal defense team from football, lol. Props to Ulmark for going for it anyway. Is it technically the wrong play being so far out of the the net and down only one goal? Not even mad, just wondering.
To make the Canucks giving up a second goalie goal even more unlikely, both times the Canuck goalie of record was Latvian. Peter Skudra and Arturs Silovs. 👀
I felt that way with the Avs in 2021. Our two teams could possibly meet in the Cup Final, this time with the Avs being hopefully healthy. The only teams the Bruins have to worry about are the Maple Chokes and Lightning. For the Avs, ut's the Knights and the Dallas Goons.
After a few attempts, we have our first goalie goal in franchise history! Of course it was Ullmark to score it, am I right? He has been on fire this year in the net and without a doubt, is the choice for the Vezina.
Those 3 players in front of him hopping trying to block it is like a free kick in soccer close to net with wall of players trying to block angels to net.
experience canucks hockey
😂😢
🤣🤣🤣
I think 0:00, where you see 3 nucks players desperately trying to block it sums our season up perfectly lol
💀
At least you're not the Sharks, who have a worse home record than the Canucks.

Swayman was six inches from a goalie goal as well this year 😭 just crazy
He'll definitely get one too eventually. He goes for it whenever the opportunity is there.
Goalie show tonight, vasilevsky played out of his mind too. Two great teams with top tier goalkeeping:P
Don't forget John Gibson!
Binnington also had an absurd game. They lost, but he stopped something like 45 shots. Nuts.
