Use to be that there was a sweet spot speed where the gear would rip off but your wings were safe. We called that "Fighter Mode"

they actually had a small charge to blow their own gear, in case of need. Luftwaffe used this for quite some time, especially when escort was not available and pilots needed much needed performance when trying to outrun or just buy time with turning.
It was an actual thing :D

The Stuka with a late war 109 engine, retractable gear, and gunpods would have been better than all the silly jet and rocket planes they were making.

The 7.92's are so good that you could shoot the ground in front of you and the sheer amount of bullets that manage to bounce back up could still down an enemy plane.
Fun fact: The only german in WW2 to receive the iron cross 5 times was a Stuka pilot.
