This is Taiwan ~ Hope you can also make the Chinese subtitles for this video. That will allow more Taiwanese people to be able to watch it more easily. Thanks a lot.希望您也能為這影片,製作字幕,讓更多台灣人也一起支持您。
due to the situation between Taiwan and China maybe some problems,so we don"t have many opportunities to see foreigners,i guess this is a reason why we point at foreigners.
Great to see your old video and know you have been living in TW,even got your own family. I am still living in JNB with my husband. SA is a nice country and we have spent 3 times Xmas wonderful holiday since 2018 around CT area. But we are leaving SA in Aug. And we plan to move to TW where I can keep working and have more freedom. Good luck to you in Taiwan.
Your videos have helped alot! I visited Taiwan for the first time during November and I was absolutely blown away by how friendly and helpful the people are. I was extremely reluctant to leave. Definitely planning to spend some years there when I can!
I lived in Taiwan when I was a boy in the 5th and 6th grades, from the summer of '59 to the summer of '61. Those were some of the best years of my life!
Wow, my wife is from Taipei and we live in California, and I relate to your comments. I have learned so much about how to deal with people from my wife. Lol, I have also learned Chinese grammar in English. Your English is quite good still. Thanks for the great videos.
John Sharpe Thanks for watching. I have also definitely learned quite a bit from my wife about the social aspect of living here and how to deal with people.
So true on the loss of English. We lived in Vietnam for a year and we found that we were losing our words or speaking simply to each other. Great video, our second time watching it.
Taiwan is a lovely country, and you're a lucky man to be living there. I lived there for seven years and still miss it. There is a certain ease to life in Taiwan; I think the weather helps,,but it's mostly the warmth of everyday people. I really appreciate your videos - please keep it up!
we are very very similar people. also from CT, also im in Taiwan 10 years (2 previous years in singapore before that). Especially the last part about foreign friends. I used to have a big crew of guys, we used to go out, hit the clubs, etc. But then long term gf... then people start to leave.. 10 years later, really no foreign friends to speak of anymore. I thought it was just me, and that I got lazy or antisocial, but seems its a common thing for us long term stayers.
Hi , I watched your video's & already subscribed , I love all your video's they are well done , like you said is a window view of Taiwan , I was born in Taiwan grow up in Saudi Arabia , then moved to US , now I'm living in Canada , I went back to Taiwan in around 2012 lived there for 4 year's , got a job , then in 2015 moved to Canada , eventing show in your video is exactly what I've seen & experience in Taiwan , is completely very true , for me moving from Saudi Arabia to US it was a culture shock & from US to Taiwan then now in Canada it all take time to adjust , but I love every minute of it , by the way your early video , you have this long curly hair you look much more handsome , again love your video's , keep in touch 😀
Thank you for the video! People point or stare at you maybe it's just because we can barely find a foreigner here, and of course, we don't speak English often. XD About 12 years that's really a long time! Hope u have a nice life here, we all are friends 😉
when I start to eat chiness food in Taiwan, when i came back to my country Philippines I change my diet I don't eat fast foods and start eating more vegetables.
That's one interesting thing I think, that at least in the beginning, foreigners always group up with foreigners when it comes to making friends. It was the same for me and my friends. Always around 70% foreigners.
If I was as carefree as you were when you were younger, I would have been hit by my grandmother and scolded by my elders. :') From the age of 13 I was expected to be an adult and if I acted not like an adult things would be hard for me. But it is interesting hearing the perspective of people from other parts of the world. I don't have a 'normal' American family. My grandmother was Greek and my grandfather was Norwegian. They were VERY traditional, and this passed on to my mom and her siblings and of course to me and my other relatives. I remember the talk my grandfather had to me when I was thirteen. He said, "You are now the age of accountability. Anything you do now, you will be accountable for." It freaked me out. I was always scared I was doing something wrong. lol Anyways, I just thought I would share because growing up with my background is interesting to compare with other people.
+This is Taiwan I love your channel by the way. I think it is really interesting learning about different cultures and your channel helps to give a really interesting insight into Taiwanese culture. So I appreciate you making these videos.
I came to Taiwan in my mid to late 20's, still a young man. ^^ ...just turned 46! Having a mid-life crisis in a foreign country. LOL!!!!!!!! (time goes by quicker here in Taipei. Is that because of the hectic pace of people or is it that as we get older time seems to go quicker? It is strange that I will probably spend the rest of my life here. I think about that a lot. The future. hmmmmmm........
was your first job in Taiwan as a teacher proffesor? I would actually want to know about your first year in Taiwan, because i'm thinking about moving there for a couple of years as well, and i'm also in my early twenties, but I have no idea what to start doing to be able to afford my stay. Specially because the first year I would probably need to lear decent mandarin. Great video by the way!
CutieMoli: Bull crap is right👎. So when females go play around behind their Companion back it’s okay👍. Gals will be gals. What guys can full around, gals can do the same. Go girls.
Hey hey.... As part of my lifeintaiwan series I’m thinking of doing a video on my favourite other foreign vloggers here so would it be cool for me to link to your channel and maybe just include a few seconds from one or two of your videos in my video? If not then cool.... but just wanted to check...
lifeintaiwan Also, if you come through to Taipei or Taoyuan at some point in the future, please give me shout. I’d like to interview you for my channel if possible. Cheers :)
First all, it is human nature that people staring at foreigners, similarly on occasions, shopping at local stores when I was travelling through some country towns that kids would be gazing at me the Asian woman they had never seen before. Second, old habits will never die especially for eatery, I am still cooking my Chinese way after 30 years' living in US. Last, I couldn't pinpoint your accent, it sounds quite familiar, until of your admission on this youtube, my Business Analysis instructor came from South Africa as well; so, accent likes old habit never die.
Hello friends, I have a question for those who are familiar with household registration. I'm thinking of renewing my taiwan passport. It does have national id number that starts with letter A followed by 9 digit numbers denoting it was issued in taipei. Would they be able to look up my household registry with this information?
Wow, it's great to see the whole out-door parts are all at Nan-Kan riverside bike path in Tao-yuan. I lived there for 10 years and loved to walk along the river every several days. I enjoyed the walking very much. But I moved to Long-tan 3 years ago, which is a place needs to drive 1 hour from Tao-yuan. Really missed there a lot.
Am from Philippines. I live in taiwan for 4 decade.here. your story is much different from me. Specially if your poor. They don't treat you good. They will look down on you. That's wasn't good. Yes there are few that is nice. But not all. Maybe when you came to taiwan .you are rich.and buy a house here.but for us who bring nothing.and live on a old apartment.where there are bad neighborhood. Then you'll see. Unlike phillipines. Yes .what you said about Africa is same. But the only good was. Your at peace. Life goes on. Here its not.its a living hell for me..
Salamat po. Sorry to hear your story in Taiwan. Yes, some below-average educated people tend to look down on poor people especially a dark skined poor pinoy due to their own self inferiority. All you have to say to them is with your good English like fuck you! Man~what you looking at? Or use Taiwanese like Gan Li Nian, kwua sa xiao?
Pleaaw send me your number I will come to Taiwan soon to meet my friend. I will need a tour guide and you sound like a cool guy. I will pay you well. We can all hang out and have some fun.
I like your videos, they are informative and for the most part interesting. I think it would help if you interacted with other people, foreigners or locals, the monologues tend to drone on even though like I said they are interesting. Get on your scooter and mount a helmet cam and drive around while you chat and we see where you live. Include the family in outings or dinners out? I hope I'm not sounding too negative, I do enjoy the channel. Perhaps you can translate the price of things into US dollars once in a while as well. Thanks for reading. :)
May I ask if you can do a video or if you have a video on the pension system in Taiwan please. I am currently at University studying Primary Education and plan to live and work in Taiwan. I just want to know what happens once you retire as a teacher? I know its a long way away but I love to plan ahead.
Scott Read Sure. I’ll see what I can do. I heard that public school teachers get an amazing deal in regards to retirement funds, but I also heard that the government plans on making significant cuts soon.
Hello there, Wonderful video! I'm also South African, I'm currently living in mainland China and would like to look into relocating to Taiwan. Any ideas on how I could apply for a teaching job? Thanks in advance.
We are very different people , i live in nj and I'm miserabe. I was borned in taiwan but came to the states in early 90's. You remind me of me but in opposite life.
I am a teacher in primary school. There is a student in my class and his father come from California. The boy can speak fluent Chinese more than English . One day , an arguemant happened betwwen the boy and his classmate . Just because his friend told to him he is a mixd-blood and he is very angry . Something I get from this matter . The boy maybe has a confuse of Cultural Identity just because of his different appearance even I think it is not an important point in his daily life . But in the Opposite view, perhaps the boy feel uncomfortabe . What should I do ? Give me some suggestions ~~
try to make opportunities to let him blend in, the good thing is the boy is actually trying to not feel or seem different than the others. i hope i was a good help, good luck.
It was all very strange. But I didn't really care, it was fun. I'm unsure what they said to people they showed the photos too. We were out on a private tour in Hue when a tour bus pulled up and a heap of Vietnamese tourists piled out. One asked me to take a photo with him, then I had to do a group photo and many other photos with the group. It was really fun but super wierd.
Please subscribe. It really helps to grow this channel. Thank you.
You are like the taiwan version of Zerpentza! I like your content subscribe!

Are you teaching in the high school by where you filmed?

Get a mic foam orwind break sleeve to eliminate the wind noise. It also reduces background noises that you been struggling with. Cheap fix.
S Chang Haha. I know. It’s driving me crazy, too. I will eventually get it sorted out.

Thanks. I think I'll make that (My first year in Taiwan) into a video. If you're planning on teaching English here, you won't need to learn Chinese.
"Guys are guys" Bullcrap! Just gotta respect yo whaman!
mazdaplz it's a matter of tastes in girls I guess
No, it's a girl's matter of taste in guys, I couldn't get a date for my life back in the USA, and in Asia I'm more harassed than Brad Pitt.
Asian women are much more feminine, don't make problems for no reason and treat men better.
Guys are guys. We fuck anything that moves. Don't move
CutieMoli: Bull crap is right👎. So when females go play around behind their Companion back it’s okay👍. Gals will be gals. What guys can full around, gals can do the same. Go girls.

Thanks for sharing your story! Love all of your videos
Nancy Chen Thank you
Taiwan looks beautiful
Taiwan is actually very ungly.
Where do you live in Taiwan? Is that Taipei? I ate out for 2 years straight while there.
Ian Leahy I live in Taoyuan, about 30+ minutes drive from Taipei CBD.
I’m looking to live there with my family for a year - I’ve lived in mainland China already for a year - not sure it will be as tough as that :)
Generally speaking, it's easier for foreigners to settle down in TW compared to China.
First all, it is human nature that people staring at foreigners, similarly on occasions, shopping at local stores when I was travelling through some country towns that kids would be gazing at me the Asian woman they had never seen before. @@coold8d Well that's a bit overreacting but I like the idea
Hi there. Great Channel. I'll be visiting Taiwan in May. Looking to meet other Americans and expats.
Could you please give me an idea of how much you spend monthly in food, rent and transportation?
I like your videos, they are informative and for the most part interesting. George Fisher Thanks for the constructive criticism & ideas. I’ll see what I can do.
I really liked this. :)
Love Taiwan and people
Miss You Taiwan....
I would like to teach English in Taiwan what is the best program to register with..in terms of best management and labour practices !!!
what kind of job is available to a non mandarin speaking person in taiwan? (what job do you do?)

Hello there,
Wonderful video! I'm also South African, I'm currently living in mainland China and would like to look into relocating to Taiwan. Any ideas on how I could apply for a teaching job?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks Maryann! I would suggest taking a look at www.tealit.com as a starting point.
Have you considered teaching English literature in colleges? Wouldn't that grant you more access to using and teaching more advanced English?
The thought has crossed my mind, however, I believe you have to, at the very minimum, be a certified teacher in order to do that.
how do you become a certified teacher?
err i just realized i don't know jackshit bout my own country....
很中肯的建議。
Thank you
Any plan for your entire family to tour mainland China and Hong Kong, just to see more of China and learn more Chinese culture / roots ?
Lol Your English takes a knock ! 哇!哈哈 I will be sure to read lots if I move.
Thanks. But would be nice to know about jobs not related to teaching of English.
thanks
Is this Tainan? Tainan is beautiful!
Moses Taoyuan :)
We are very different people , i live in nj and I'm miserabe. I was borned in taiwan but came to the states in early 90's. You remind me of me but in opposite life.
who Hi Come back to Taiwan?
It sounds like you just grew up vs Taiwan changing you.
Haha, yep. Pretty much...
Being 6"4 and having a full beard I was always asked for photos with random Asian people. Plus the belly rubbing is a wierd thing to get use too.
Jeremy Backhouse You must have seemed like a giant to some of them!
It was all very strange. But I didn't really care, it was fun. I'm unsure what they said to people they showed the photos too. One asked me to take a photo with him, then I had to do a group photo and many other photos with the group. It was really fun but super wierd.
Jeremy Backhouse Haha. Yeah, those picture taking moments do tend to happen now and again. So weird initially.
your "boys will be boys" comment is distasteful and immediately turned me away from your video.
I believe he meant it as a bad thing - it wasn't so much 'boys will be boys' as much as it was 'men can be predictably shitty'.
Apparently what he meant completely sailed over your head. Instead of whining about it make sure you are certain of the meaning.
K bye! 👋
7:00 you are going to be Taiwanese ? wonderful! XD
if you create English subtitles i will do it XD
@4:11 😂
Why would you not cook at home? Sounds insane. And more expensive.
Eating out can be done cheaply in Taiwan. Big time saver and no dishes as well :)
