Even better, Mountaintop can be a movement tool without compromising your build at all. Eager edge is fun, but comes at the cost of damage. Mountaintop might not be the absolute hard meta special weapon, but it's more than good enough for most content while still being usable for movement.

implosion over spike nades is a 0.8% damage buff if anyone is curios. Getting hard launch with spike is 4.4% better than 100 blast radius spikes so you mainly need hard launch
Going for the iconic mountaintop - Anarchy DPS combo, you'll find some pros and cons that make it a valuable choice to run. The bad part is that the DPS gets outclassed by other popular combos. So no min maxxing, especially in normal difficult content of raids and dungeons. The Good part is the ammo economy. MT+ AnarcHy is outstandingly viable in those regards. You'll have plenty of ammo left after a damage cycle where other loadouts stand empty handed. So you trade total damage for having plenty of ammo on round 2/3/4... very useful on harder content or low manning runs! Perhaps in a double special combo loadout can it shine further.
While I typically think a lot of weapons have multiple rolls worth using Recombination, imo outclasses all the other damage perks in terms of not just one off Burst damage but total overall damage and general use. Just 3 to 4 elemental kills and you already surpass other damage perks. And even in DPS situations your front loading damage that overall is higher.
I know how everyone is saying this, but man I've missed this excitement and the discussion around rolls feeling so much more important. With crafting, we still discuss rolls, but you don't have to TRY to get them. With this, people are saying about how much fun they're having with it, and it feels kinda like earlier D2, even D1 days. Hope we see more of this type of chase.
@@dtps_champion6016 it feels like crafting will be there to fill the baseline for weapons, and rng + enhancing perks will be the way to go from here on onwards. You'll go crafting for "good enough" weapons, and then you'll go Random rolls for optimized damage.

You got every other perk combo? Why not just keep the overflow + recombination roll? Enhanced gets you 3 shots, that's a lot of burst damage on a champ which is basically all you're gonna be shooting it at anyway
I got a Hard launch, implosion, overflow and Recombination and also the same above and Frenzy. The ability to chuck out 2 micro-missiles in rapid succession helps, when enhanced it would be 3 shots. For recombination it is the clean up factor with the smaller missile, after the big missiles hit. While frenzy, well your reload will be blazing fast, just that you get to drop off rapid shots first. So it is very nice burst damage factor.
The reason why frenzy is so liked is because it not only doesnt require any setup (just you being in combat), but because it also gives 100 handling and 100 reload automatically, something VERY noticable when doing swap rotations or just when using the gun. Now, on mountaintop this is less of a neccessity because izanagi is in the same slot, but if your exotic slot is already used up by another slot (like gally, tractor, merciless, fourth horsemen, etc) it could be nice. because of this frenzy works in pretty much any scenario, from spam killing ads to boss damage to major killing, it is versatile.
Auto reload and recombo is a good I want this thing to die role, in onslaught it works well on yellow bars or champion’s especially if you have a build that can easily get high recombo stacks. A shiny role I’m after is hard launch, implosion (spike as a back up), ambitious/auto load, and recombo/one for all. This has the passive build stacks for high damage shot and a more active spam build.
Auto loading is the only perk in the 1st column for me as I'll be using it as a quick swap weapon. Any choice of Recomb, Frenzy etc is good too. As a side note, sponsor segment was actually the best part of the video.
It’s too late now since The Final Shape is out. But I’m curious, for every Mountaintop drop, what is the probability that I’ll get the combination - Hard Launch, Spike Grenades or Implosion Rounds, Auto Loading Holster, and Recombination? Can anyone do that kind of math?
The only concern to be had with OFA is that you cannot refresh its duration until it ends. As such, there is always at least 1 shot every 10 seconds that does not get the damage buff. In that lower-middle end content where you'd be using a grenade launcher to truly clear adds, there's a lot of gray area. But at the end of the day, I just.... don't think that there's a place for Mountaintop in that niche. Wave frames are already there and are much easier to use and much more consistent, and we've got a couple genuinely decent wave frames in the kinetic slot. As you mentioned, there might be a place for ALH+Vorpal/Reconstruction, but what I've seen from heavy DPS optimizers is that even that's not super worth going gaga over. The state of the game has moved far past mountaintop. We have real kinetic options now for both add clear and special weapon swaps.
Been loving my recombination mountaintop along with bait and switch heavies. Brave weapons are my first time using both and they fight really well into my existing builds to strengthen their dps

I’m running into this issue where I’m so used to auto loading holster on other GLs, actually reloading anything other than forbearance feels excruciatingly slow so I’m chill with my current auto/vorpal build for when something needs to get nuked

Great vid just one critique why did you consider harmony? You need exactly 2 kills with recombination to match it and when exactly are you shooting mountaintop swapping away and in that 4 second autoloading time not getting more than 2 energy kills before swapping back? I get if you are spamming down a major or champ but if you already hit it with a x10 shot you would need 8 more shots to match the DPS otherwise. Just kinda strange but a great video either way.

To the Frenzy vs Recombination: That's great and all...but you can't just include Frenzy's damage buff and not factor in the reload boost it gives, meaning you pump out the dsmage quicker compared to Recombination. So the chart there needs to be re-evaluated in terms of time as well as ramp-up
FYI if u dont get hard launch implosion and have spike nades its alright, the damage you'll get is less but by such a small amount it isnt important unless you are a minmaxxer, 2 options

I had no idea what roll to go for for a while, I finally decided on auto-loading, vorpal because I do think I'll use it to rocket jump in some capacity, so I don't want to deal extra damage to myself. I also won't be using it as a primary, so autoloading is good.
Ambitious recomb is the best for beefy targets. One shot of recomb won’t kill champs or majors but having 2 shots will or leave them with a sliver for easy clean up you will delete harder targets faster with ambitious.
Speaking of sustained damage, wouldn't the perk setup for that include impulse Amplifier for the multiplier? It probably will still lose out to other specials, but that might change the break-even point from 15 seconds to 13-12 seconds.
I'm out here rocking recombination-lead from gold cause I want a pseudo rocket launcher in my kinetic slot. I do kinda wish it got redirection as another perk, where hitting red bars gave it stacking damage vs orange bars, at 20% a stack for just hitting red bars and above that let it go up to 100% and that would stack 20x, using 5 stacks a hit. It would require more effort to build, actually requiring you use special ammo on red bars, but it would give you up to 4 double damage shots that only proc on actually tanky targets and not when you want to rocket jump or kill trash. Maybe bungie had it in mind and thought it'd be too powerful? Idk, I just wish a non-wave frame GL had redirection (or that the wave frame GL with redirection would give me a good perk combo)
I have been running the curated shiny roll of MT for some time and it's pretty great. Not "I am taking you to Raid" or something", but pretty decent overall. Just to ease up your FOMO.

I want to get two or three rolls maybe one with AL + one for all for ad clear, and either Overflow + frenzy or AL+ recomb for damage. What do y’all think is the better option? 6:43 I love how your explanation of why ambitious assassin is good over a clip of you proving why it’s not. In that entire clip you only had it proc 7/14 attempted times and you were in a best case scenario as you had a bunch of red bars. The problem is people were stealing your dreg kills and because the servitors were too chunky to kill in 2 shots you couldn’t proc it on them either, and you thefore had to painfully slowly reload many extra times as the result of not having something that would actually be better for actively using the gun like impulse amplifier. The only time you should ever even consider ambitious is in combination with frenzy for the reload, and at that point you don’t even need it since frenzy gives 100 reload and the reload speed is literally almost as fast as the rpm of the weapon. You also prove how insanely fast you end up wasting all your ammo using it that way as you run out of ammo quite literally before you are done talking about the perk. A single shot of a volt shot indebted kindness would have killed all the adds you needed your entire reserves of MT to kill. MT has one roll IMO and it’s auto loading and recombination which you pull out to get big damage on a yellow bar or for the start of a boss dps rotation. If you want to use a GL for add clear use a wave frame.
got a shiny moutaintop with spike nades, AA and One for All. pretty fun. the other perks are overflow and harmony (i liked it, but one for all is better for my style)
Nice outline, as always. I'd make the argument for Recombination with Ambitious Assassin or Overflow instead of Auto-Loading Holster. The logic is that those two also auto-load, but with more than one round. This means they don't need to be triggered again to auto-load. They're already loaded for the second shot. Ambitious Assassin takes kills to trigger an auto-load of an empty weapon, but if one is trying to reproc Recombination, kills are needed, and it will load up two in the chamber. Overflow needs a brick, so there is some RNG for that. This also fits with your point about it not being a good weapon for sustained DPS, so don't try for that. One or two shots, and move on.
Ambitious Assassin triggers on reload. I think you are thinking of Envious Assassin which has the auto-load aspect, which the mountaintop does not roll.
Personally going after the Auto Loading and Recombination roll. I think Mountaintop is a great weapon to set up Bait and Switch with your heavy. Huge chunk of damage leading into your activation of Bait and Switch. Even with my current Overflow Recombination roll I can take out Yellow Bar enemies consistently even in the later rounds of Onslaught.
I tried it and didnt love it but havent tried it much on my main character. Im gonna change my attunement off of mountaintop tho because i want the envious b/s heavy GL but i dont wanna play trials.
all i’ll say is that with how fast we can kill enemies with our weapons and abilities you only need 3-4 kills (of any energy) with recombination to have a larger damage bonus than one for all. it’s very easy to build the stacks back up if you need that x10 shot but you don’t only have to use the x10 lol
I got auto loading frenzy with hard launch. Pretty happy also got overflow frenzy i just don't think it's ground breaking or as good as wave frames. I love the new strand wave gl I have sideways chain reaction and sideways hatchling... many god rolls and strand has many good extra things you can do. But like I always say it's worth getting a good roll of anything that comes out and holding onto it because buffs or nerfs happen and meta changes often
I dont think the damage increase from implosion/hard launch is worth it on a "slaying" mt top (something like one for all). Its blast radius is already really small just take spike grenades and something that doesn't tank blast radius.
Can't wait to run this with forebearance and rain of fire. Already solo flawlessed dungeons with witherhoard in its place but now I can run this with an exotic heavy.
Bro I got hard/ quick launch, spike, reconstruction, recombination... when I tell you this thing is so beautiful and f awesome doing 71-80k to a Legendary onslaught gold bar 1 shot, it is the best feeling. I highly recommend running Trinity goul the arc bow. Because of the chain reaction cause recombination to get ×10 so quick. ❤❤

I’m sorry but I’m not using one for all unless it’s a primary, recombination is the by far the best option and it’s not hard to hit targets at all compared to succession you have to deal with flinch and if you don’t hit a crit and if a target has a small crit area
I like recombination alh for give chunk damage on demand. I really prefer my primary to be add clear, typically zaouli's with ep and incandescent. This play style works well for me.

Ambitious recomb is the best for beefy targets. One shot of recomb won’t kill champs or majors but having 2 shots will or leave them with a sliver for easy clean up you will delete harder targets faster with ambitious.
I got the old curated roll and honestly, good enough for me :) its a gun I use when I want to have fun, not when I want to clear content.
Speaking of sustained damage, wouldn't the perk setup for that include impulse Amplifier for the multiplier? It probably will still lose out to other specials, but that might change the break-even point from 15 seconds to 13-12 seconds.

I'm out here rocking recombination-lead from gold cause I want a pseudo rocket launcher in my kinetic slot. I do kinda wish it got redirection as another perk, where hitting red bars gave it stacking damage vs orange bars, at 20% a stack for just hitting red bars and above that let it go up to 100% and that would stack 20x, using 5 stacks a hit. It would require more effort to build, actually requiring you use special ammo on red bars, but it would give you up to 4 double damage shots that only proc on actually tanky targets and not when you want to rocket jump or kill trash. Maybe bungie had it in mind and thought it'd be too powerful? Idk, I just wish a non-wave frame GL had redirection (or that the wave frame GL with redirection would give me a good perk combo)

Is only having Implosion rounds fine? My only auto loading / recombination roll has quick launch, Implosion rounds, reload masterwork
So, Frenzy is better than vorpal then? I was watching the video and then my brain decided to turn off. I want to get two or three rolls maybe one with AL + one for all for ad clear, and either Overflow + frenzy or AL+ recomb for damage. What do y’all think is the better option? I do plan on making mountain my main weapon for damage with my a bait and switch rocket maybe.
6:43 I love how your explanation of why ambitious assassin is good over a clip of you proving why it’s not. In that entire clip you only had it proc 7/14 attempted times and you were in a best case scenario as you had a bunch of red bars. The problem is people were stealing your dreg kills and because the servitors were too chunky to kill in 2 shots you couldn’t proc it on them either, and you thefore had to painfully slowly reload many extra times as the result of not having something that would actually be better for actively using the gun like impulse amplifier. The only time you should ever even consider ambitious is in combination with frenzy for the reload, and at that point you don’t even need it since frenzy gives 100 reload and the reload speed is literally almost as fast as the rpm of the weapon. You also prove how insanely fast you end up wasting all your ammo using it that way as you run out of ammo quite literally before you are done talking about the perk. A single shot of a volt shot indebted kindness would have killed all the adds you needed your entire reserves of MT to kill. MT has one roll IMO and it’s auto loading and recombination which you pull out to get big damage on a yellow bar or for the start of a boss dps rotation. If you want to use a GL for add clear use a wave frame.
Keep a sticky grenades roll if you want it for movement tech,
stack nades for big launches like prospector

My most recent shiny roll has Spike, auto loading, and recombination. I'm very happy with it and am going to move onto grinding for some others
got a shiny moutaintop with spike nades, AA and One for All. pretty fun.
the other perks are overflow and harmony (i liked it, but one for all is better for my style)

Nice outline, as always. I'd make the argument for Recombination with Ambitious Assassin or Overflow instead of Auto-Loading Holster. The logic is that those two also auto-load, but with more than one round. This means they don't need to be triggered again to auto-load. They're already loaded for the second shot. Ambitious Assassin takes kills to trigger an auto-load of an empty weapon, but if one is trying to reproc Recombination, kills are needed, and it will load up two in the chamber. Overflow needs a brick, so there is some RNG for that.
This also fits with your point about it not being a good weapon for sustained DPS, so don't try for that. One or two shots, and move on.
Ambitious Assassin triggers on reload. I think you are thinking of Envious Assassin which has the auto-load aspect, which the mountaintop does not roll.
Personally going after the Auto Loading and Recombination roll. I think Mountaintop is a great weapon to set up Bait and Switch with your heavy. Huge chunk of damage leading into your activation of Bait and Switch. Even with my current Overflow Recombination roll I can take out Yellow Bar enemies consistently even in the later rounds of Onslaught.
So the difference between having 1 good mag or barrel perk as opposed to having 2 is negligible?
i feel like this gun was made for frenzy as its the only weapon with it that you consistently self damage activating it

I tried it and didnt love it but havent tried it much on my main character. Im gonna change my attunement off of mountaintop tho because i want the envious b/s heavy GL but i dont wanna play trials.
When I saw the perk rolls this could get, I immediately thought it’d be a good bait & switch weapon. Drop a recomb shot and then follow into bait.
all i’ll say is that with how fast we can kill enemies with our weapons and abilities you only need 3-4 kills (of any energy) with recombination to have a larger damage bonus than one for all. it’s very easy to build the stacks back up if you need that x10 shot but you don’t only have to use the x10 lol

I got auto loading frenzy with hard launch. Pretty happy also got overflow frenzy i just don't think it's ground breaking or as good as wave frames. I love the new strand wave gl I have sideways chain reaction and sideways hatchling... many god rolls and strand has many good extra things you can do. But like I always say it's worth getting a good roll of anything that comes out and holding onto it because buffs or nerfs happen and meta changes often

I dont think the damage increase from implosion/hard launch is worth it on a "slaying" mt top (something like one for all). Its blast radius is already really small just take spike grenades and something that doesn't tank blast radius.

Can't wait to run this with forebearance and rain of fire. Already solo flawlessed dungeons with witherhoard in its place but now I can run this with an exotic heavy.
Skipped Overflow. Which, imo isn't as good/easy to use as Auto-loading holster, it will be enhanceable to get 3 in the mag.

Bro I got hard/ quick launch, spike, reconstruction, recombination... when I tell you this thing is so beautiful and f awesome doing 71-80k to a Legendary onslaught gold bar 1 shot, it is the best feeling.
I highly recommend running Trinity goul the arc bow. Because of the chain reaction cause recombination to get ×10 so quick. ❤❤

@talentrippin3535 maybe auto loading but I swear that doesn't sound right. It reloads automatically after I swap kill with bow then swap back by then it's already ready to shoot

I’m sorry but I’m not using one for all unless it’s a primary, recombination is the by far the best option and it’s not hard to hit targets at all compared to succession you have to deal with flinch and if you don’t hit a crit and if a target has a small crit area
I like recombination alh for give chunk damage on demand. I really prefer my primary to be add clear, typically zaouli's with ep and incandescent. This play style works well for me.
It's wild that simply having new weapons to chase that only come from drops has reinvigorated me to play Destiny again
