I love how the mom wants to " fix it before anyone really gets hurt"
Excuse me ma'am but your dog bit a kid badly enough it warranted a ER trip. That sounds like someone getting hurt to me
Attacked someone else too they didnt tell Victoria until the dog went for her
Right
Yea people come first. I love my dog but if she ever behaved like that I would prioritize my family’s safety without a second thought.
@@rebecadonadon5275 We had a cairn terrier that came down with several genetic diseases and became very possessive of everything. He was well trained but bad breeding caused him to come down with an auto-immune disease just as I got pregnant with my first child. We talked to several vets and behaviorists and all recommended rehoming if possible or putting him down because he was not compatible with a child. We did rehome him with a retired couple (it took 8 months to find someone and we were completely honest with them about it). It was gut wrenching to do it but we couldn't risk him biting our child. We were so devasted that it took us 5 years to get another dog. Our current dog is very sweet, very mellow and is not possessive of anything. But I would be lying if I didn't say that I still miss our first dog.
sj4iy I experienced a very similar situation myself. We had a Maltese puppy named Scooby. We chose that breed because we didn’t have any backyard space for a bigger, more high energy dog (Maltese are very small). Anyways months go by but he just kept growing. We had already gotten very attached so we decided to just let it slide. After 6 months he was as tall as my knee, and two walks a day just wasn’t cutting it for him. We didn’t have the resources to take care of him so we had to give him up to a couple who had just lost their eldest dog. He is much happier now but I still miss him, I know how you feel.

I felt so bad that the poor kid just had to deal with Sammy biting him like that. However, I'm glad Victoria didn't step in since it would've led to an actual attack. I can't imagine just having to stand there though and not be able to intervene.
Corbin Brier that was play, the kid wasn’t getting hurt. I have a dog like that too and it’s annoying but it never would cause an ER visit or something like that.
I don’t think that dogs like this are good for households with young kids though, the dog need someone assertive and kids just don’t have that authority.
Rebecca Abrams I understand what you mean. I have hunting dogs that are in no way house pets, if you aren’t dominant or in charge, you will get hurt. That dog unfortunately probably just shouldn’t be around kids, kids stress out a lot of dogs doesn’t matter what breed of dog.
@@rebeccaabrams3079 very wrong to say just because it's play means it doesn't have potential to harm.
That dog has no bite inhibition because of how mouthy it is. No bite inhibition = hard bites
Rebecca Abrams there already has been a er visit and every time he bit him I’m sure he said oww
That,use of been terrifying
That poor little boy, how scary is that to have this big dog biting your leg and acting aggressive.
Sammy was playing ruffly not attacking they boy in the dogs mind. Just saying dear
Shenksperit True, but the dog is far stronger than the boy, it would be like having a professional athlete play fight with you and accidentally hurt you. Even though he didn’t mean it, you still come out with bruises and cuts.
Lets not forget that those boys were "playing" with the dog like that for a long long time. The dog was "tought" to act like it. Or more likely not tought in an other way.
Janka Sidlo I blame the adults, it is their job to set the rules and boundaries for their children and their pets, as well as their interactions with each other.
If the kid antagonized me id bite him too
Can we talk about how great these two boys are? They are so committed to training Sammy.
These kids are far more mature and motivated than most of the adults are on this show.
I used to play rough with my gsd when he was a puppy, but even from 4 months I was teaching him mouth control and obedience. As he got bigger, we still played rough, but if I ever said "enough" it was game over and hed go from a 10 in energy to a 0 in an instant. By far hes the most loyal and obedient dog. Hes turning 12 in a couple months 🤧
I play rough with both my pooches. A kelpie vizsla mix, and a GSD. Playing rough is absolutely fine if you train the dog and teach bite inhibition. Obviously you have!
Same with my huskies, we play rough when I initiate it, it’s fun for me and them, but the second I say stop it, or enough they let go and stop immediately. They also know that they can only play like this with me. I hope your dog is healthy and well 😊
It's possible to play rough with your dogs, but you need to teach them bite inhibition first. As well as teaching them some basics of if you say "stop" they stop and so on. After they got those bits down then yeah you can have fun, and that's what Victoria meant as well. They could play with the dog and everything, but only after he really has those basics down.
Exactly. Teaching bite pressure is key. My younger husky is 9 months and we are getting another eight week puppy ( rescue situation ) in two weeks. Our huskies love to rough play, our younger one would sometimes get very out of control and come bite your arm and shake his head like they do with toys. I work with all my dogs on bite pressure, I will let them mouth gently and play but the second a puppy will bite too rough, I pull away and ignore. It works amazing. Now if they’re laying down and “rough” playing, they sometimes will gently use their mouth, but they never use their teeth or bite down. It’s amazing to teach because I am in the process of certifying them as therapy dogs and we have a lot of holiday parties and there are often young children who want to lay down and play with them. We also desensitize our puppies so if the children accidentally touch their tail or ears paws etc they ignore it :).
That's amazeing training realy :) you tought the dog right
What do your friends think of the dog

That is the most cooperative family I ever seen on here.. No fighting, no arguing, no denying anything, plus they were determined to work with the dog! The whole family was! Never seen that before! Plus the fence donation idea was excellent! Great job Victoria! Excellent job!
Yeah and yet there's people on here just complaining about how the mother doesn't deserve a dog, shouldn't have any pets, etc. Then also going off about how horrible the younger kid's haircut was.. I saw absolutely nothing wrong with this mother. Sure in the previous video she forgot to tell Victoria that he can be aggressive over certain things, but she didn't mean to, it's just so chaotic she didn't think to tell her. Nobody in their right mind would get the cameras there, Victoria, etc and then be like "WATCH ME GET HER BIT!" she genuinely just forgot.

@@Eventide215 Thank you! She really wanted to do her best and keep the dog in the family. Those two boys really loved the dog, even if it was on a bad road. It doesn't mean that it's permanent.
Any time a problem can be corrected and the dog kept is a victory.
@@authenticpoppy Yeah something people never seem to realize on these videos, especially with kids involved, is that the kids do still love the animal and want to keep it. Getting rid of the dog would have been devastating for all but the grandma really. It's the grandma that wanted nothing to do with the dog at that point, but she stuck it out for her daughter and grand-kids. Turns out too that the dog was doing great in the update. The dog was happier and so was the family. Yet people are still in this comment section screaming at how horrible the mother is???
@@Eventide215 It's sad. There's almost always a way to keep the dog and the kids happy and safe. It just takes a willingness to figure out a way to do it. Not everyone has the knowledge and instinct that Victoria does. But that's how we learn.
The only time I would say that the dog has to go is in the case of a new baby and a jealous dog. Otherwise, there's always a way.
And again, I wonder why people are getting working dog breeds as family dogs without being willing to train and exercise them properly.
It's not just working dogs. Small dogs like Pomeranians can become dangerous if not trained.
It's a mutt. Adopting a mutt from a shelter is getting a mystery breed that reveals itself in bits and pieces over the years. It's about personality, not a breed.
authenticpoppy yes, I loved my mutt I adopted, he’s a complete mix! It’s definitely not about the breed, I believe part of the owner rubs of on a dog, you control and shape them :)
@@alishaamber5 Yes. And each dog has their own personality.
@@authenticpoppy yeah, but working dogs are high energy and very intelligent. He's not aggressive because he's a working breed, he has problems because his needs have not been met and his needs are, largely, dictated by his type of breed. Every dog can be amazing, but that doesn't mean ever breed is compatible with every person. And, yes, there are calm, low energy working type dogs, but the majority need a LOT of time and exercise.
I hate it so much when parents and adults get a dog, or any other high-maintenance animal, and completely neglect it’s training to the point that it’s in danger of being put down. All they’re doing is setting the dog up for failure. If you don’t want to put in the work of owning a dog, why get one?
Yep, completely agree
So true. And it's not like it has to cost much, there are tons of good instructional videos on youtube, so it's just buying some treats and putting in the time and effort
FREE NUTT I’m very active but school would be an issue if I were to have a dog like Sammy although I’d make it work if I had to
Selfish. People can be so selfish.
They almost always see it as a toy and not a responsibility. I used to be close with and even at one point lived with a family where every dog they had could have potentially put them on this show.
Last I spoke to them, they had two small dogs who weren't even properly potty trained (after having them for over a year) because everyone in the house would rather divert responsibility than take any. It took them months just to get the dogs to use a pee pad. They'd leave the pee pad in the hallway until it was so filthy that the dogs would look for somewhere else to relieve themselves.
When I lived with them, even though I was extremely ill and so weak I sometimes couldn't get out of bed to eat until hours later, I was the only one who ever took the dogs out. I was the only one who played with the dogs PERIOD.
I all but begged that family to get a cat if they really wanted a pet so badly. Because at least a cat will mostly take care of themselves.
That mom is really tickin me off. She wants to seem like she cares but where tf has she been?? Lala land??

Victoria is so smart for not trying to put herself in the middle. I think that's also why she stopped with the loud noise distractions she usually does. It was just getting him more hyped up. Definitely still acting like a straight up puppy, had no boundaries ever. I would love to see the dog in a more proper home for him. I can't believe a child was taken to the ER after being bitten and he wasn't taken and put down like most dogs would have been. Sammy was so lucky to get another chance with Victoria. @@malicia58 Not necessarily has to do with what kind of dog you get or breed, they should had corrected the nipping/bitting behaivour since it was a puppy. It's mostly when you apply that discipline to the dog, most recommended that the earlier in its puppy years to difference to bite on toys & not the humans, the better.. If not.. This happens where the dog keeps that kind of mouthy puppy behaivour & doesn't tell difference from play & actual harm towards those whom are not been a thread to it.

He definitely still has puppy behavior. That should have been taken care of quickly when he's young so the dog doesn't end up being aggressive.
We know. Victoria just told us.
Yep Victoria told us
Victoria already told us!
I'm glad he didn't have a brain disease causing aggression. That's what got my second dog euthanized.
Those children learned a very valuable lesson. If you wish to remove or prevent any unwanted behaviors in a dog, work is required. I'm glad the mom decided to commit. Those boys will remember that, hopefully.
The boys are extremely cute and so good behaved and good hearted
Did they have this dog from a puppy? I watched the last episode but can’t remember. If she had him from a puppy when why the hell did she not train him?! I cannot and will never understand why people get dogs and don’t train them. “I don’t know how to train a dog” is not an excuse! Do your research! I don’t know how to train either, but my dog is well behaved and I’ve done my research and I go to classes with him. It astonishes me that people don’t understand that not training a dog can be fatal to him 🤦♀️
sadly, there are still people around whose attitude towards that matter is "training? nah, a dog is a dog, and has to behave like a dog, so my dog has no need to learn fancy tricks", 'cause for them "train" a dog is nothing more than teach him "high five" or "roll"
this is unfortunate, other than badly outdated, and also potentially dangerous in the long run
Misbehaviour can also be through genetics
@@daisybelcher5571 not this kind of misbehaviour. This is purely a lack of training.
this is why the government (at least in my country) has thought about a "dog-owner liscense" where you have to go through a dog training school to even be allowed to get a dog - but of course people complain about it so it hasn't been through (yet)
@@xXNelkeXx I agree with the Idea of training people in the basics of keeping an animal. I used to hate the idea, but I'm only 26 and I've had to help people correct the behaviour of so many dogs it's utterly pathetic. In almost every case, simple training as a puppy would have prevented any issues.

What lovely children, well spoken and polite.
I'm so glad the grandmother is in this house... Only the grandmother said thank you for the fence
In the beginning I seen Victoria do the “Aggressive dog technique” when they turn and ignore the behavior. No wonder she’s the best
Its also the quickest way to stop any dog from jumping up on you. Once it learns that there is no attention from jumping it stops.
my uncle gave me a shepherd pup when I was young. My parents wanted nothing to do with it , someone gave me a book about dog training and that was the extent of it. I remember reading in the book to not play with the dog by having it bite me.. You know, how so many people play tug of war , or stick their hands in a pup's mouth ? I tried to not let it happen but it was just me and the dog on our own. He became so aggressive my Mom had to get rid of him. What a shame. First lesson in my story is don't give a child a dog as a gift ESPECIALLY without the parents' knowledge and agreement. And don't let a kid try to raise a dog alone with no supervision.
Those kids were so kind and really wanted the best for their dog. They seemed a little camera shy but that’s fine. Also who noticed how gentle Victoria was with the kids?
It's strange but the thing that bothered me most was the fact that the kid had his shoes on the couch...

Well, i do not have a proper fence, my place is not safe for me, nor is it safe for my dogs 'cause they can escape, yet i cannot afford a fence. So i would cry my eyes out if i got a similar offer.
Don't think she was crying over the fence. It's pretty emotionally overwhelming when another person, especially a stranger that doesn't even know you, wants to help your family.
Fences are so expensive I would probably cry too lol my grandma got one and I couldn’t believe it cost $11000
Re watching all of Victoria's videos ready for getting a puppy in a couple of weeks.

Those kids are truly so sweet.
That older boy is so gentle and nice. A beautiful soul
If I'm ever able to raise such sweet, kind children I would never ask for anything again
Before getting a dog, do your research on breeds, be consistent with training, discipline and exercise. Most of all TEACH YOUR CHILD/CHILDREN HOW TO BEHAVE AROUND DOGS AND DOGS ARE NOT TOYS. This behaviour needed to be addressed ages ago!

Char shepherd it really that's funny because when I've done it the dog always calmed down and before you say I don't know what I'm talking about im a dog trainer and behaviorist
Louis Torres it really does work. If not for dominance issues then for calming effect. I have done it when my dog is super anxious and you just sit and hold them and pet them and they get chill
@@LawnOrnament forcing them to sit still can help, I have to pin my guy down occasionally because he's 6 months old and when he gets frustrated he bites me hard enough to warrant it and just gets more amped the longer I take to shut him down, and I do it by the scruff simply because it's the only place he can't keep gnawing on me from. But it's not a dominance thing, it's just to shut the behavior down completely when his brain stops working, lmao. I don't think it should be done as a dominance thing so much as a last resort to a damaging behavior either for the dog or the human. That dog is such a liability I don’t think I’d let it be around my kids tbh
I have to agree with you. Not only are those two kids at risk but also any other child who enters that home.
Same. Those children's safety need to be first. The fact that the dog bit another person's child is alarming.
@@brie4623 Absolutely. Apart from the trauma of that dog haven bitten a child badly enough for him to require medical care, the whole situation is a lawsuit just waiting to happen.
So what, you'd rather just throw it out and get rid of it, possibly murdering it or giving to another home where you don't know what's happening to it? It was still a young puppy and had plenty of room to learn. Kids alone are a liability, but you don't just throw them out or get rid of them. What do you do instead? You teach them how to behave. People really need to stop with this old mentality of "If a dog bit someone, it'll bite again".. that's not how it works.
I wouldn’t feel safe around that dog, especially because I have a disability and am short. Having an aggressive small dog in my life was hard...I can’t imagine when it’s a dog who is so much stronger than I am.

Jeez, mama needs to step up. Feel bad for grandma and those sweet kids.
I think the mums got a couple of problems, first the mums working all the time and has a partner that’s sick. She’s got her mum to help out which takes a little bit off her shoulders, but it’s a lot of stress to have a job, pay bills, look after kids and dogs, recently have moved, and then everything associated with having an illness in the family. She’s obviously caring and has some real great personalities in the house who are understanding and willing to help out, but it’s a lot for a parent and a partner to go through. She’s obviously got a lot going on and is trying her best.
Why would you get a dog like that when you didn't have a fence or plan to get one?
groundcontrol436385 this lady is all talk no action and her kids and grandma are paying for it
The dog is also paying the price dealing with lack of training rough kids any animal at some point would get tired of it
It's not the fence that is the problem. I have adopted a high-level energy dog in a flat, and with a lot of work, she's now very calm, almost a grandma lol.
The problem is that she's not educated the dog.
I dont have a fenced in yard and I have a medium sized dog. She has a long lead tethered into the ground to play in the back yard and a short lead for the front of the house. There are ways around it, just gotta get creative

He is not an "aggressive" dog but definitely needed training to keep everyone safe👍 So happy that they did what they needed to do as a family and not just giving all the responsibility to the mom ❤️ They followed Victoria's directions to the T and was so happy that they had a gate donated 💕💕💕💕 Sammy will be forever grateful and will be such a needed and loved part of the family !!!!
what a lovely family, so good they all worked together to help Sammie have a good life. the donated fence was wonderful.
We have a dog with no bite inhibition. We got her after she was picked up as a stray and was returned to the shelter when she dragged a nine year old down the stairs by his ankle. This is play for her and she plays really hard, whenever she puts her teeth on you its guaranteed to hurt. In six months she has gotten used to command to stop and with enough outside simulation will not play with her mouth.
Those boys are so sweet! I hope everything works out well for this family. Kudos to whoever donated the fence!
Good lord I love this family. The kids are so well brought up!! ❤
I've had plenty of mouthy dogs that do it playfully but they've always ALWAYS stopped the second they were told to chill.
Zinnia Lorant-Pryor i had a lab-retriever and so if we were playing rough she might get her mouth around my arm but she NEVER bit. It was just holding me. She didn’t even know what to do about it and just looked around like a lost puppy.
Our neighbors also used to have ducks (in suburbs? I was equally confused) and they sometimes came over to our yard. Well, my dog would be out there occasionally and one time she actually caught the duck... she was so excited but had absolutely no idea what to do 😂 we told her to put it down and the duck ran off back home (it was perfectly fine)
Awww this made me cry. So wonderful that they asked for help.
I feel soo bad sad for the kids that had to get biting and hurt 😞
Those kids are so sweet and smart. The oldest especially i love how hard hes working. And the Grandma rocks!!
Those kids are precious, so calm and respective.
Ya Victoria! I love your videos, they have even helped us with our training for our boy! Thank you.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who recognised that those 2 boys were so sweet and patient.
Im still amazed by the size of the american houses. UK houses look like a shoe box in comparison
Yet another reason I wouldn't live there.
That’s not the norm for the US. These were very well off people. That’s why almost everyone is surprised the fence needed to be donated. Either that or they were living well above their means.
@@nopenope185 id say it depends where you live in the US. where i live, this house size is a basic middle class home, yet in larger metro cities (like atlanta, LA, etc), itd be in the higher hundred thousands closer to a million. either way they shoulda been able to afford a fence though LMAO
@@AmberWilliams Exactly. Don't people get that the US is a huge country?
Well done Victoria to have someone donated a fence around the backyard for this family was amazing so hopefully the family will get to keep there beloved dog and be able to keep up with with the training as well and these 2 boys are beautiful and amazing with there dog
Such sweet boys & wonderful Grandma!
Damn these boys are so calm, soft-spoken and patient...
Can I just say how good this kid is. The older brother I mean. Maybe I’m weird but seeing him thorough the video I was thinking what a good boy he is and he’s gonna grow into a fine man like this !
Dude this family is amazing, I’m so happy they took the time and invest into Sammy.
Great job guys. I can really tell y'all love that dog. The kids are so sweet and well behaved too. The mom and grandma are doing a wonderful job.
Those kids are so sweet and patient. Just an overall great family.
My dog is hyper but he knows I'm the boss and stops when I tell him, they've allowed this to happen.
Its not about being the boss over your dog🤦♀️
@@melissasiepman7618 I have a lot of love for my dog and he loves me but I have to let him know I'm in charge when it matters.
love my dogs Yes it is, I know Victoria is approaching a different method but when it comes to certain dog breeds you need to take charge and be the boss.
Like Victoria said, the dog never learned bite inhibition. Which is what puppies teach each other when they get too rough with the play. So the dog never knew he was being rough. Let alone too rough
Adria Dark Pack/dominance theory has been debunked.
The more I watch this show, the more I feel like we are doing a good job on training our puppy. He is not mouthy (only when he's excited while playing he's 7 months old), he is kind and friendly, only one problem is he is a little too rough around other dogs and guests. But we are working on that. We also did our research on the breed, his personality, the breeder and most importantly we saw the mom and his siblings (ALWAYS make sure you see the mother and ask enough questions to the breeder!)
He is living a happy life rn and when he's older (6-7 years old) we want him to have a friend.
Always do your research!!
I'm glad everyone is being committed to help out their dog
I'm confused...their house is very large yet they can't afford a fence?
Right! They have a huge house and a lot of professional landscaping done in their huge front yard. They clearly can afford it.
We don't know their situation....fences are very expensive and they could be going thru a tough time. Not everyone has a big budget for a fence. Basically, dont assume someones story
@@gloriav7646 Very good point 😊
huge house, huge lot, huge fence. Fences aren't cheap and i can't imagine how much it would cost to enclose their area.
Gloria V then they should move? That house is worth at least a million. I know that you’re trying to think about different perspectives but you really dont need to do that for people who have that sort of lifestyle.
Remember: the top 1% holds 90% of the worlds wealth. You dont need to be empathetic to the upper class, which they are clearly a member of.
God bless these kids they’ve gone through a lot and bless the gran she really takes care of them😁
This one totally related to our pit bull puppy Mia as she likes to bite when she plays. This was really helpful. My wife and I really enjoy watching Victoria. We think she's the best animal dog trainer out there.
Poor kid! We have a labridore & husky mix, he is just 8 month old puppy and used to bite us and jump up like Sammy. We would attache a leash to him and when he jumped up to go bite someone we pulled him back and when he sat down and relaxed or played with a toy instead we told him good boy! And gave him a treat, he no longer jumps and bites people, and is very gentle with his mouth.
My dog is INCREDIBLY sweet except for the fact that when we’re playing with him he can kinda get a little to rough and start biting. He doesn’t want to hurt us (and tbh it doesn’t really hurt but sometimes it does) he just gets to excited. But he has NEVER ONCE jumped on or bit one of the kids. He’s very gentle with them and I’m very proud of that. We didn’t even have to train him that way he just was always like that.
This was the video i needed for a fostered 9 mnth old German Shepherd! Thank you for all the videos.
Gsds are amazing dogs when their properly trained. There are 2 type of sheps velcro sheps or anti cuddle sheps both are valid ♡
Spray bottle. And voice.
@@TheSurelia oh i have a cuddly Shepherd. Just gets very mouthy when playing .
@@carrierussell6013 I do as well!! I love my velcroshep! They can be amazing dogs with the right training
