I loved your dad's work for Dore Records. The Superbs records were huge hits in Pittsburgh and still get play today. Thanks to our beloved Terry Lee who played them all !!
This song was written by Bobby Troup who was a multi-talented guy. He sang and performed, had his own trio, acted and wrote many songs, among them Route 66, Tenderly and The Girl Can't Help It. He was also an actor and played in lots of movies and TV shows among which are Emergency and Mannix.
Indeed! I heard Superbs being broadcast on KFOX-FM, Chuck Johnson's R & B radio show in 1965 while living in Venice, Ca. DJ Chuck played tunes that nobody else would give airplay. He had a top 40 list...lots of Whispers 45's and other Dore label artists!
Back in '06 Walter took me on the road with him 3 times that year as an opening act/emcee. I could never thank him enough for the opportunity. Excellent person
The superb are bad ass, especially cruising Saturday night in my 63 Impala blasting the oldies like this one, social media I'm going crazy finding all these oldies, and the videos, instead of the same oldies from Motown, there was a lot more music that got lost in time, but u tube is off tha chain,
My dad had a '64 gold metalflake paint...had those "curb feelers" would cruise around San Fernando valley with him...my mom called his car the "gold toilet"!
Thank You for posting this. Ronald Cook is my father. He has this clip on VHS. I remember seeing this on American Bandstand when I was about 8 yrs old.
Is this the Ronald Cook that went by the name Ronnie Cook that did The Goo Goo Muck by Ronnie Cook & The Gaylads . ruclips.net/video/ywzlrQrelr0/видео.html
Ernie... I believe your father sang with the Riviera's...who were great in their own right!! Moonlight Cocktails, and Moonlight Serenade come to mind!!
Beautiful song, but too short and the ending not long enough. Great backing vocals!! Great looking guys! (especially the middle one!) Her voice is PERFECT for this song. I love their performance. The sound and backing vocals is definitely 60's and even 50's sound and style. My kind of music! Great job SUPERBS!!
In this era of music, songs could not extend beyond 3 minutes and most were two and a half minutes in length in order to fit radio formats and television tape times, but longer versions could sometimes be found on an album.
So many of the Groups from the 1960s were great singers. History will not bring us another decade like that one, a unique decade of revolutionary changes in our culture which produced the hundreds of singing groups and many single artists and the love for dancing that was going on every weekend, many great memories for sure.
I AGREE WHOLEHEARTEDLY WHILE THE NEWER GENERATIONS THE 80'S & 90'S BABIES THINK THEY'VE DISCOVERED THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH, THEY WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND WHT IT WAS LIKE GROWING UP IN THE 60'S & 70'S. This song is absolutely beautiful.... I know I was born in the wrong era.I would of loved to of been a teenager when songs like this were around, I was only 9 when this song was out and only learned about music like this from my late hubby . He loved music like this....
Thank heck for old-time record stores! Walked into my local shop today while the Miss Toni Fisher cover (The Big Hurt) was playing and asked about the singer. The clerk had put The Superbs on because another regular customer had just come in and he figured they'd like it. The charm worked! The store sold two copies of the Kent label Superbs compilation in under five minutes! I see that a couple of Superbs family relations are commenting here and just wanted to note the group made a few new fans here in good ol' 2016. Good music lasts forever.
I ran with your Dad Walter back in '61-'62 and recognized him on the close-up video-panning [2:36--38]. Please mention my name [Val] to your Dad. I was wishful-singer and learning (self-taught) piano back then; your Dad was a very cool guy; with a rare "54-convertible Buick!
Congratulations to a superb group with Elenore Green. I remember them well in Los Angeles. We did performances for Hunter Hancock at schools like Jordan High, Fremont and usually each week. I remember Bobby Swain as the member of the group. I am and was on the show circuit too for Hunter Handcock. Ricardo King with "At the Harlem Center" "Won'tca Come On Home" and "On A Hot Summer Day In The Big City" on Joker Records my recorded songs & regional hits back then. produced by Hal Davis of Motown Records. Memories of the past....
Great song, melody, and group. Check out video at 2:20, lead singer Eleanor Green sings "girl held so tight," should be "guy held so tight." It appears that the writer of the song, Bobby Troup, had a male lead in mind when he wrote the song. An interesting observation, check out video between 2:38 and 2:42, observe the back up singer on the left ( Walter White ) mustache, half of his mustache is missing. The questions Dick Clark asked the group were indeed condescending and insulting, i.e., "is it really leather or plastic," do you clean the outfits," calling their outfits "costumes," and the bit about " on a hot summer night wearing their costumes would be a little too much."
This song holds very special memories for me. I went to one of my very first house parties in the early '80s with some great friends of mine. Oldies were playing in the living room and I remember slow dancing to this song. Such fun times. I love it.
This song was written by Bobby Troup who was a multi-talented guy. He sang and performed, performed with his own trio, acted and wrote many songs, among them Route 66, Tenderly and The Girl Can't Help It. He was also an actor and played in lots of movies and TV shows among which are Emergency and Mannix.
I'd only discovered this gem of a record *this year,* and I couldn't get enough of their sweet harmonies, and particularly that angelic soprano of Ms. Green. *Then,* this great clip popped up in my YT feed, and I've never clicked on a vid so quickly: Their record here, but hinted at the class, and grace that the group displayed here on AB; so-o good to see; and Ms. Green is beautiful, and it's clear why she was snatched up by, and married to an NFL star.
Walter white was my great grandpa he died in the end of 2017 not too recent, but it seems like it was just yesterday when I was at his funeral. I will always love you.
This was sort of a, "regional hit," good in Los Angeles, perhaps in some other areas, but not particularly on a National basis. We Oldies Collectors enjoy this; it will live, forever!
Clifton Davis and Hal Davis are two different people. Hal Davis produced hits for Brenda Holloway on Motown and for Ricardo King on Joker Records published through Jobete and later produced and co wrote songs for " Jackson 5 on Motown
There's my longtime friend Mr Walter White. It was such a pleasure getting to go out on the road with him back in '06. I loved the stories he would tell about his time in the entertainment business. I can never thank him enough for giving me a spot on his stage. Excellent person
The B-Side on the 45 rpm record was “I was born when you kissed me” it was played briefly in early 1965 after Baby Baby All The Time, beautiful song. I think The Whispers recorded it first. These songs were played here in ELA & Boyle Htgs. Great Music & I love this clip. I never wore leather during that time. Not until the 80’s. When I was in my 30’s.
Such a beautiful sound , harmony coming from a very beautiful singing group. Dick Clark isn't to smart and stylish , had DJ/radio personality Alan Freed not been convicted of payola (pay for play) he would have been bigger or as big as Dick Clark , remember he was out 1st and did more for R&R music and the artist then Duck Clark and Wolfman Jack !!
This is a wonderful song I was a freshman in college when they preformed this song. Another song that they did, that was also great was Storybook Of Love. I was a member of the Laura Lamar High School class of 1964. Laura Lamar High School was in Homer City, PA.
James Dunn not sure if your comments is aimed at me but I'm not the one calling him cardboard nor using the word "presenter" this person is probably not from North America otherwise they would knoww Dick Clark

What a beautiful group, three handsome men and a beautiful lady who had class and innocence, we'll never see an era like this again.
You're right, unfortunately!
This song was written by my daddy (Bobby Swayne Sr)

I agree, but I am from Detroit!! Hitsville USA was an innovator in the 50's and 60's for sure!!!! The Philly Sound was equally as good !!!
cannot remember hearing them when young, her daughter sent me, glad she did, love them
The styles in music, cars, clothes n hair, all add up to , those were the days. You can even overlook some of the bad shit.
I love this song.

What a sweet voice she has! The leather is kinda cool!
looks better than the others outfits including sparky Dick Clark. I guess he didn't know they were performers and wanted to look great and they do.
A super song by the Superbs! Thanks for sharing!
Written by Bobby Troup! Cool 50's jazz tune, but I still love this version!
Who would later marry great sultry singer Julie London (Cry Me A River) who also costar with husband Bobby Troup in the TV series Emergency
