It's funny how we keep getting reminders of that Ashlee Simpson SNL screw up. I can't forget it because I WAS THERE in the audience that night. The studio went quiet and nothing seemed to happen for a few minutes. From the overhead monitors we could see the live feed was just dead air, just the SNL logo with host Jude Law's photo. Weird night.

I find it completely frustrating that you can't volunteer if you have a criminal record. There are more Americans with criminal records than there are Americans with college degrees. And if you wanna know for what.... a kid I was skateboarding with 30 years ago had a roach in his cigarette pack, and four of us got arrested for it. ("Free" country, huh?) It's absurd. I'm willing to give up the little I have to sign a year contract to protect people that are losing more than I'll ever have. Willing to sacrifice my life to just give an opportunity for a kid in a foreign country to actually grow up and have a life of their own, but, nah. "You have a criminal offense, so you're not eligible to save people's lives and protect their freedoms." I can't help but think about the bill that was nearly passed last year that would've expunged weed related charges from Americans, but now, the same Republicans that voted against that bill are the first in line to say the US needs to send aid to Ukraine.

Poor Zelenskyy must be thinking: Thanks for the standing ovation but I'd rather have missiles, planes and drones. What's the difference between giving them stingers and giving them planes and drones? Nothing. Come on NATO, give Ukraine what they need to end this nightmare.
The planes and drones require a lot more training to use. The (shoulder fire) missiles are like a week training to use, and something you can teach yourself from a manual or RUclips video if no trainer is available.
So the stingers and javelins can be used by a much larger percentage of the fighting force, and don't require as much support to be effective.

Three things about a no-fly zone (I'm going to assume it would be enforced by NATO because there really isn't any other capable candidate). First, it would ground the Ukrainian air force. No-fly means neither side flies, otherwise it would just be a shoot-down-Russian-planes zone. Second, Ukraine's air force and air defence systems are still operating well enough that Russia is to some degree avoiding flying over Ukraine, opting instead to fire cruise missiles from within their own air space. A no-fly zone won't stop them from doing that. Third, and worst, the biggest problem the Ukrainian air force has is Russian air defence systems inside Belarus and Russia that can shoot down planes hundreds of kilometres away. Large areas of Ukrainian, including Kyiv, are under the umbrella of those systems. Enforcing a no-fly zone over all of Ukraine would require destroying those systems, which means NATO attacking ground targets in Belarus and Russia.
I don't blame Zelenskyy for asking for a no-fly zone, he is looking for any help he can get for his country, but it would not help as much as most people - maybe including him - hope, and it would almost certainly escalate into a NATO vs Russia war.

@@lsamoa No I just read a lot of analysis by experts who are detached enough from the suffering going on that they can be objective. As the situation is now, Ukraine can win this with the level of support that they are getting. Yes there will be suffering, but in the long run it is better for Ukraine to win this with a bit of help from the rest of the world than for them to win it with a lot of help from NATO. Putin cannot deny the former, but the latter plays right into his lies that evil NATO is aggressively absorbing unwilling countries and Russia's incursion was to save Ukraine.

A legit correction that needs to happen here is for Seth to start properly pronouncing Moscow. It doesn’t sound like it ends with cow, but rather co (like short for company). It’s weird how many people get this wrong, but have no trouble pronouncing Glasgow.
I would expect that people in the region find both pronunciations equally wrong.

I like the guy, but he doesn’t understand the implications of a No Fly Zone. As much as I feel for those in Ukraine, we can’t plunge ourselves into a world war over this.
8 years ago took Crimean Peninsula, has decimated and take Chechnya, made a deal to trade military assistance in Belarus eliminating pro-democracy efforts in exchange for border access along Ukraine, decimated Afghanistan before us, is ruing Syrian against pro-democracy, held two hour meeting in Helsinki with ex-president with No Notes in violation of our laws, and more. He has stated his goal is to regain former Tsarist lands which includes Moldova, Finland, and more.
Not stopping Hitler soon enough broadened the scope to all of Europe, much of Africa and Asia.
The praise he gives for killing children and people fleeing along with many poisonings in the United Kingdom and more is ample proof he lacks what is called conscience.

I hope the US or the Nato step in to close the sky over Ukraine. The video was absolutely heartbreaking. And I can't help but constantly think of all the children an babies trapped over there, without food or water or medicine... my heart is breaking :'(
Closing the sky means shooting at any Russian jets that are up there. What does “shooting at the enemy” mean? It means “war”.

These things can be ameliorated without a no fly zone by NATO. 1 . USE UN peacekeepers
2. Ask Afghanistan fighters. Neither Russia or America could win and flying was unrestricted.
3, Ask the Vietnamese. No fly zones were not even heard of.

If Russia/Putin have entered their Quagmire in Ukraine, they will be bled until they leave. Ukraine only needs supplies and staying power. It's their home. Russians will want to go home.

CORRECTIONS: Seth is pronouncing both “Ukraine” and “Kyiv” incorrectly. He is pronouncing Putin’s first name incorrectly too but that’s good. F%#! that guy. Call him Voldemort for all I care.
Actually, he pronounced /kev/ exactly as Ukrainians pronounce it. Russians pronounce it /ke-yev/.

Technically you are correct, but in English we don't have the first syllable sound so it would be spoken as one syllable, a hard "k" sound. And many reporters are using this one syllable pronunciation because the alternative otherwise is that it ends up sounding too much like the Russian pronunciation which we're trying to stay away from. You're asking us to speak with a Ukrainian accent which we can't do.
My expertise is that I have been teaching ESL for 25 years now. I speak Chinese, and also some German and Japanese. It's very difficult in similar fashion for Americans to pronounce the umlaut in German. Chinese has 4 tones and it is very difficult to differentiate between the 2nd and 3rd tones. Japanese doesn't have an "l" sound so all those sounds come out as "r". If someone says "erection" to me when they meant to say "election" I let it go unless they are my student. I know what they meant to say.
If you really want to go down the rabbit hole then we could talk about the wide variety of accents around the US, Britain, and Australia.

@@christinan9989 If you watched the video I posted previously that native Ukrainian would say you are wrong. She pronounced it with a hard K sound followed by a slight I sound combined together. A sound, as I stated, is virtually impossible for Americans to pronounce. As I stated before, that would be the same as trying to get Americans to pronounce umlaut in German which, unless you have a good teacher, is impossible for Americans to do. It's part of the Ukrainian accent just as umlauts are part of German accents or similar to British not pronouncing the letter R.
Have you listened to all the reporters and their pronunciation? They are all saying /keev/ now.
Alternatively, what would be Russian pronunciation of the city? What you wrote sounds exactly what I was told is the Russian pronunciation.
