I was born there and lived just 500 Meters away from you... Had some friends, but they had to leave after a couple of years. Still miss you "James Woodward" and "Andrew Reiter".
Also remember everything from this time.
Today we had a short walk around this area (visit my parents) and talked about this time. Still some houses and the tower there...
    Greetings from Dallau!!!

    I was stationed
here 1964-66 then Bat D 1st/67th. Spit polished, well cared for. HIGH Security,
fences with concertina wire then patrolled by armed guards with dogs. You pulled
your guard duty with a round chambered in your M14. Falling asleep on guard
duty could get you a court marshal. Training and readiness drills were extreme.
Beautiful German girls still wanted to marry a GI. 1 dollar got you 3 marks
50p, The Henshen House was the social center. It brings back fond memories D

My Dad was stationed here (Floyd E. Chatterton "Chat") He retried in 1967 when I was 1. He stayed in Germany and I was raised around the corner in Mosbach/Lohrbach and then Heilbronn. We used to go back to Dallau for Thanksgiving and such. I remember they used to bring ponies in for us kids to ride near the little pond where I caught my first Rainbow Trout! I wish I had pictures.....

I remember PX Joe well! We lived in Dallau and my now, ex husband worked on launcher hill. We were stationed there for two years from 77-79. Our names were Richard and Anna Grayson. Really enjoyed being there and shopping on the economy. Good people in that part of the world.

I was a LOPAR radar repairman on radar hill from l967 to 1970. Made E5 and moved to Rittersbach, Cafe Bruck, where I had a room downstairs. Back then the currency rate was 4 marks to a dollar and a Halbe bier cost 50 pfennig. I remember the dances we had twice a week there but most of my time I spent in Mosbach at the Henschen Haus and the Kinder Spielplatz at night with the local girls. Fun times! When I first got there I met 1st Shirt Charlie Brown who hated everybody and Capt. Davis. I worked for Mr. Fish and SFC. Morales. Can't believe that was 50 years ago!

I was just looking at history on the Internet, Googling places I had been. I was the Military Policeman that arrived at the closed and shuttered Dallau site on a Sunday in 1985 (I think) to find about 200 peaceful protesters.
I was assigned to the 194th MP Company at the time. We had a requirement to check the site once per shift. When I was on mid-shift, it was the highlight of the evening. I could get there and back in about 50 minutes. Of course I would break most traffic laws.

Kai, that is an awesome look at our old site. We're all "over the hill" now, but what a fascinating tribute for all of us! Where are you living now? Ironically I met a guy through the company I used to work for, who lived just down the hill and remembered growing up with the bright lights shining in his bedroom window all night from our site, I also rekindled a friendship with a girl from Dallau who I dated back in the day. Would love to connect with you and share some memories. Thanks.
