I saw this film several times growing up, my parents being from India always praised it. But I recall when I lived in Eastern Europe several years ago getting a taxi late at night after a heavy metal concert, the driver began starting a conversation with me. He couldn't speak English but I spoke enough of the local language to be able to talk to him. He told me that he was fascinated by Indian history after watching this movie and he knew everything about Gandhi, Pandit Nehru and all of the major events that took place in the war of India's independence. That conversation made such an impression on me and I will never forget that guy.

    • @anishadamane4179
      @anishadamane4179 3 года назад +18

@@ranilpeiris1929 The reason he is considered weak is because he is the one who started muslim appeasement (that is one point) he used to favour muslims over Hindus
The second thing is we had a strong leader called Sardar Vallabhabhai Patel and he had votes of some 14 provinces (I don't know the exact figure but Patel had a landslide victory) and Nehru had 0 votes or very few votes but Gandhi wanted Nehru to be the Prime Minister and Nehru became the Prime Minister despite Patel having majority
In 1947 Gandhi decided India had to give 500 crore rupees (was a very huge amount at that time) to our enemy Pakistan
He was also a reason for India to be divided as India and Pakistan
There was a strong leader called Subhas Chandra Bose he was elected the President of a political party called Congress not once but twice and both the times it was Gandhi who made him resign
Gandhi was against Bhagat Singh and against Subhas Chandra Bose who were the real reasons for India's Independence
Gandhi without consulting anybody decided that Indians would fight alongside British in the 2nd World War whch was ridiculous for somebody believing in Non-Violence
In 1947 21 INA soldiers were hanged by the British publicly and this led to mass revolts in the Navy and Army and due to this the British left India

Despite numerous weaknesses and infirmities, one of the greatest human beings to walk the earth. The world would be a better place if humanity could walk the path the Mahatma showed, but we are too caught up with our greed and agenda of self-interest. In a time marred with violence and wars, the Mahatma showed the alternative way of achieving one's goal through the path of nonviolence. He could bring down to knees the empire Hitler could not bring down with his Gestapo. Unfortunately, humanity, let alone Indians, have forgotten this Great Soul.

The European settlements here and European history in general was the larger part of our history teachings but they taught a fair amount about other countries too. Personally I found other countries, other than Europe, much more interesting. Sadly and disgustingly though they taught us very little about our Indigenous people back when I was in school in the 70s and 80s and I don't know if that's changed. When I was 11, one of my favorite teachers was from India and I wrote my favorite and proudest report on the Taj Mahal.

    Gandhi- an interesting Story
When we hear the name Gandhi the first thing which comes to our mind is the salt march, an act of non-violent civil disobedience.
But who was the man behind the salt march? How did he live? Why did he act like this?
The film “Gandhi” was written in 1982 by John Briley only and produced and directed by Richard Attenborough. It starts with Gandhi’s assassination, then the actual story of his live starts. The atmosphere is contemplative and informs about Gandhi’s leadership.
He is depicted as a political and spiritual leader against racism and laws in South Africa and later also in India. His principles of equality and tolerance substantiate his position in India’s fight for independence.
The movie also deals with his religious tolerance: It is shown that Gandhi told Jinnah that “they were brothers of the same mother India.” Jinnah didn’t support Gandhi’s idea of a tolerant India with Muslims and Hindus. Some scenes ally Indians fighting for their rights showed me that the film wasn’t only about Gandhi rather about the dream of freedom and justice all over the world. Ben Kingsely played Gandhi very authentic and all other actors seemed motivated and serious. In conclusion an interesting movie for everyone who’s interested in history.

It was actually Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose himself who was the first one to call Gandhi ji as "the father of the nation". Gandhi ji and his colleagues fought for non-violence and non-cooperation and set an example for the world to look up to. That is why he is respected more than any other freedom fighter and is also celebrated around the world for his pioneering and bold approach to attaining freedom.
Netaji took to war, i.e., he indirectly supported the violence associated with it, which was not a new thing for freedom movements around the world. That's why there is not much to celebrate here.

Like you know that’s just a quote from the ppl who made the movie right? It’s not like Gandhi himself said it or anything, and we can all see it for ourselves in the trailer so why do you feel the need to post this all over the place? I’m confused by this behavior.. plz explain
IF I had to render a guess, I’d say you love this movie so much that you watch it often, but for some reason you watch the trailer first to hype yourself up or something. Then every time you hear that line you’re like “oh my gosh, that is SOO PROFOUND!!! I MUST share this feeling with the whole world!”. Is that about right? Cuz I mean, we’ve all had that feeling before but it’s the dedication to post it in as many places as you have that confuses me..

This movie is just a pacification to make Westerners guilty and accept many wrong things by making them fall in guilt trap. Gandhi wanted the perpetrators to feel guilty, not their innocent sons and daughters who did and are doing nothing wrong. The US Army bombs the middle East and guilt traps its own citizens for activities they never did or never paid taxes for! These are all mind games. Gandhi was a great saint of ours, but he wrote in English too. If Westerners are interested they should just read him. He was an evolving person, his opinions got better over time. So best to read Gandhi as a progression rather than read his few early books.

It was Netaji Bose whom the British empire feared and because of whom the Brits hurriedly left away India. Gandhi's contribution to Indian independence in Sir Clement Attlee's words was 'M-I-N-I-M-A-L'.
Your Bengali surname makes me feel sorry for the true Liberator of India.

In scandinavian. 'Gand' is a word for 'magic' and 'hin' is a word for 'the'
So in the scandinavian languages Gandhi means 'the magic' or 'the magical'

@@liondepierre indeed, but we have many words for magic. We have sedr, gand, magi, troldskab, all meaning magic. If you would please be kind and read my original comment. You will find, that i have written 'gand is A word for magic'. Moreover why don't you just take my word for it? why you do feel the urge to question me on my own tongue, you a nonspeaker, if i may ask?
