Midnight in the Narrows (Symphony No. 1, Mvt. 5/5)

The finale to the symphony, Midnight in the Narrows, begins precisely where the Sunset finished; with night descending upon the vast wilderness. We the listener have not left the encapsulating canyons now; instead, we continue deeper into the folds and twists until what little light twinkles down from the stars becomes choked by the compressing walls of the slot canyon. The seemingly endless narrows descend further and further into nothingness. The night closes in ever darker, and the narrows continue ever on, waning into the unknown.

Dear Mathew, what a fascinating composition! Superb orchestration, mystic moods and chromatically wandering harmonies! Reminds me a little bit of the last movement of Holst's Planets, especially when the choir comes joining in. But I don't mean that in a critical way. It's your own music, it just transports a similar out-of-the-world-feeling. So colorful and suggestive! I'm a huge fan! And congratulations to the finishing of your first symphony! What a great achievement! The work and efforts you put into the project are worth every second! I'm also very near to the end of my composing process for my first symphony which is finished by approx. 96% now. Perhaps 3-4 weeks still to go.
