Stumbled upon your channel while researching the TRX4M. Have one coming in for my son for Christmas to run alongside my TRX4. Fantastic content and great to see someone else from MA into RC, doesn't feel like there's a lot of us!
Not sure if I’m in love with the tires but the wheels look daaaamn good on the black bronco. They remind me of the 1/10th “rock tire” you see on Amazon, in other words great wheels but mid tier tires
I changed the tires out recently for LGRP grippers. They fit the chassis much better and allow for full suspension compression. Kept the wheels though!
First of all great comparison video of the low and high gear ratio.I installed the low range gears into bronco also because all I’ll be doing with it is slow rock crawling on high grip. Tested it out and all I can say is wow! Huge difference in slow crawl control modulation.Made me a better crawler with this set up.
Great vid and rundown of the optional gearing! Huge difference in gear sets. I picked up the blue Bronco on release day and will more than likely pick up the low gear trans as well. Liked and Subscribed and look forward to more!
I have a blue bronco and just got a defender tonight going the same way with mine ...your black one looks great those brass rims are in my list for sure...
Your so lucky you got the low gears. When I got my bronco I wished to save some extra money and see how the truck went, now I can’t obtain the low gears quickly for the life of me. Been in and out of my hobby shop for days in a row. Now I’m out of town for work and have no luck until next week.. argh ur lucky bro
Bummer! I hope you get them soon. I actually ordered mine from traxxas two weeks before the release date. They were sitting on the bench waiting for the rigs to arrive!

You know what if you want really good crawling the low gears seem great and if you want fast pace trailing the high speed is good but stock looks to be a good happy medium. I just bought mine and gotta pick her up from the hobby shop. Got the blue bronco.
You are absolutely right. My son actually determined the speed gears to be too fast as he would roll it over anytime he tried to corner. He went back to stock!
Lovely how you have the little guys involved too buddy ♥ great video .. got my eye on these trx4m's I won't lie since they are pretty much the full scale thing for a fraction of the cost .. very tempted just a little put off with how many upgrades it requires
There’s nothing better than when I can get my little buddy involved! I think you can have a ton of fun with the trx4m without any upgrades. It’s the most capable mini crawler out of the box in my experience.
I just had some one pick one up for me while they were in town I got the money setting right next to me I’m gonna throw it at them when they get here. Got a set of slow gears for it too. A red defender
Great video Adam! Question for you: With the Bronco’s crawl gearing, did you find yourself needing more wheel speed for the front axle? I wish they had overdrive gears available 😢
Yes, I agree with that. I also found myself wishing it wasn't so low. I found like I lost the ability to bump up over obstacles aggressively. But the overdrive would like solve that too. We'll see if/when OD gears come around!
Adam, I remember in a video you made, you put crawler gears in with a 3s upgrade. I’d love to run a 3s in my bronco - any suggestions? Running the injora mb100 esc in it.
I too have a green Defender and trailer. May I ask what wheels those are? Great job on the Bronco too. I picked up a white one. Really like them both. Thanks!
So what if you put the crawler transmission in the Defender and put brass wheel weights in the front? That would counter act being top heavy and rear weight from the spare tyre possibly? The Bronco will always crawl better, it’s lower, but that doesn’t mean the Defender can’t be a capable crawler either.
With very little work I think the defender could do awesome. I know lots of folks who are really enjoying their defenders from a crawling standpoint. Your approach would do awesome I’m sure!
Hey, Adam! Really liking the videos, just got back into the hobby. Something you might find interesting, the crawl gear transmission kit comes with bearings instead of bushings like the stock trans. I discovered that while taking the new transmission apart when intending to just take the gears out and keep the engine unused. Question for you though: How much louder are the crawl gears compared to stock? At high RPMs I feel like my truck sounds like a 2-stroke! Alignment on all of the gears look okay to me and the motor isn't adjustable from what I can see, so I imagine the pinion gear is aligned well. I put a dab of marine grease on the gears too just to see if that made any difference but no change there. Have a good one, man!
Thanks for watching! That is a pleasant surprise to hear that the kits come with bearings installed. As for the noise, mine is very minimally louder than stock. It makes a different pitched sound but volume is very similar to stock.
@@CapeCrawlers Thanks for following up! It's much appreciated. I might swap the stock transmission back in and see if I am just imagining the difference.
@@SysTek2000 Have you done any research to see if there is a fix to the noise? I did the $5 crawler gear swap tonight and the “whine” seems a lot louder now. I no longer hear the ECU, but lots of gear noise coming from the transmission if I’m over even 1/4 throttle.
@@80SWoods I've found its really only an issue at full throttle and de ided to leave it be. Once I was on the crawler course at my local hobby shop the truck was super quiet since it was all low speed.
@@SysTek2000 I hear you. I’m using mine more for just playing around the house and yard (and forest preserve), so I rarely ever do super slow crawling so I changed back to the stock mid-speed gears again. I sure would love a 2 speed transmission. I see that there are brushless motors for it now, but I believe you then need a new ECM and radio and I’d rather leave it mostly stock.
Installed the crawler gears in mine. I like it but I’m wondering those plus a bit of a front overdrive would make for a good compromise. And of course the overdrive itself would be nice for crawling.
Both were pretty impressive with the transmission change. I have not tried it yet but by putting bearing in the front axle makes them crawl better too. On the defender I used Injora aluminum beadlocks with LGRP Trail King tires.
So far I have not. Full disclosure: it's been so darn cold here in New England that I havent been able to use this thing more than 10 minutes at a time! But I have owned this thing for ~12 days now and I have only charged the battery once.
Am getting the same wheels and tires on my bronco what did you have to do for clearance issues if you have done anything at all cause I could see there is some rubbing going on‼️😎👍🏽

I’m working with some folks on flex extensions. We’ll see how they work soon. The stock servo setup is really going to limit articulation, but I’m going to see what I can get before that becomes an issue
Was wondering, later this year I would like to get a mini crawler, but am conflicted on which one to get. I am in Australia tho so the trx4m is out for the question currently, but by the end of the year there should be stock around. Just wondering what do you recommend as the first crawler?
I think the trx4m is an excellent first crawler. It’s easy to setup, operate, and it has lots of user friendly features like the body clip design and minimalist transmitter. The scx24 is also fantastic. It doesn’t perform as well out of the box, but it is close, and it has HUGE aftermarket support to customize it to your hearts content down the road.
That’s a subjective question. I personally prefer the bronco. The chassis is the same, so performance will be (and is) very similar with the defender being a bit more top heavy due to the more bulky body. The defender body is also a bit longer. I found myself getting the rear bumper hung up on the ground on steep approaches. So I would say choose which one tugs at your heart strings the most. Can’t go wrong either way!
They are the Injora brass wheels and 64mm rock terrain tires: www.injora.com/products/injora-4pcs-1-0-64-24mm-brass-wheel-rims-tires-set-for-1-18-1-24-rc-crawlers-w1005-t1011 You can use my discount code Capecrawlers05 and save 5% on them too.

I am sorry about that. I’m trying to sort out my lighting in the current videos I’m working on. I may have to give in and buy an actual camera and stop using my phone to record
Yes, you should. I feel like ~60mm is the max you can get away with before any shock mods are needed and even there you'll likely get some rubbing up front

@@CapeCrawlers Did you have to do anything special with those wheels? I’ve actually been considering them because I like the weight, but on the Injora website, it says: “To fully tighten the nuts, you can add spacers or use longer nuts.” Would you recommend these wheels? Thanks for watching! I did not test the gear sets on stock tires. I had already done the tires/wheels before getting the gears. Here is the part number for the speed set: 9791X and here is the crawler set: 9791R. The tires/wheels on the Bronco are Injora brass wheels and the new 64mm rock terrain tires. On the defender I used Injora aluminum beadlocks with LGRP Trail King tires.
@@CapeCrawlers THANK YOU for your reply. Cool mods fo sho. 😎👍🏼
Will the scx24 wheel extensions work on these trucks.
They will not. Wheel hexes are the same size but the axles are bigger diameter in the traxxas and won’t fit through the extensions
Did you notice a difference in battery life with the higher gears...wondering if it drains faster, thanks
So far I have not. Full disclosure: it's been so darn cold here in New England that I havent been able to use this thing more than 10 minutes at a time! But I have owned this thing for ~12 days now and I have only charged the battery once.
Am getting the same wheels and tires on my bronco what did you have to do for clearance issues if you have done anything at all cause I could see there is some rubbing going on‼️😎👍🏽
I didn’t do anything, just bolt on and go. It rubs quite a bit but doesn’t catch. I’ll keep everyone updated as I sort out the clearance issues
crawler gears installed seem a bit noisy. was yours louder?
Yes, significantly louder. Very whiny.
I've got a question what size tires do you have on the bronco and do you have a link to them? thanks.
The tires are the new 64mm rock terrains from Injora: www.injora.com/products/injora-4pcs-1-0-64-24mm-super-soft-sticky-rock-crawling-tires-for-1-18-1-24-rc-crawlers-t1011?_pos=11&_sid=64af2bb6d&_ss=r
Is there gonna be any performance upgrades for flex
The real question is Bronco or Defender? I need to chose before Monday. Thanks.
@@CapeCrawlers leaning towards the Bronco, got a white one waiting for me… thanks for the answer and I’ll make sure to watch your next videos.
What are the wheels and tires on the cover of this video?
They are the Injora brass wheels and 64mm rock terrain tires: www.injora.com/products/injora-4pcs-1-0-64-24mm-brass-wheel-rims-tires-set-for-1-18-1-24-rc-crawlers-w1005-t1011 You can use my discount code Capecrawlers05 and save 5% on them too.
Does using the low range gears help with hill hold? With the weight I've added to my bronco it wants to roll backwards at anything more than 35° in crawler mode.
I feel like it does. My bronco was at 888g and would hold steady on inclines in crawl mode with the low gears.
@@CapeCrawlers WOW that's heavy. Guess I'm still good at around 560g. Now I just need to actually find the gears. Everywhere I look it's out of stock.
Would you recommend the trx4m for 150 of the scx24 for 80 for someone just getting into the hobby?
$80 scx24 all day long. Take that extra money and buy a handful of upgrades and enjoy the trip down the rabbit hole 😎
What wheels are those and where did you get them?
These are injora black brass wheels and the 64mm rock terrain tires. Check them out here and use my discount code Capecrawlers05 to save some money too: www.injora.com/products/injora-4pcs-1-0-64-24mm-brass-wheel-rims-tires-set-for-1-18-1-24-rc-crawlers-w1005-t1011
What size are those tires? Looking at some 60x20mm hoping they won't rub
64x24mm. Big tires!! They rubbed quite a bit but didn’t catch on anything.
@@CapeCrawlers thanks for the quick response. I'm buying them on Injora. I'll be sure to use your code
What tire and wheel size are on the bronco?
Injora brass beadlocks 1.0" and 64mm rock terrain tires (also Injora)
What brand are the tires and measurement
They are the Injora rock terrains, 64mm
only reason i dont watch your vids is because there so freaking bright for no reason
I am sorry about that. I’m trying to sort out my lighting in the current videos I’m working on. I may have to give in and buy an actual camera and stop using my phone to record
@@CapeCrawlers no need, literally just take down the exposure in your editing software. Super easy fix, I love the content BTW!
@@AeneasMacdonaldEdits thanks! Check out my most recent upload, I think I’ve corrected the lighting!
@@CapeCrawlers looks good man!
did you have to raise the shocks on this run?
Yes, you should. I feel like ~60mm is the max you can get away with before any shock mods are needed and even there you'll likely get some rubbing up front
Are those the 64mm tires and the heavy brass wheels? I just ordered those for my bronco as well from Injora
Yes they are. It's an amazing combo!
@@CapeCrawlers Awesome! I have the black bronco too so now I have an idea what it's gonna look like, doesn't look like they rubbed too bad, hopefully anyways haha
@@Reppin420 They rub but not terribly. They dont catch, so at most you just sacrifice a minimal amount of travel in at full compression.
Can't wait to make a Camel Trophy edition, any link for 1/18 body shells?
I'm not sure about the shells. Ebay or Etsy maybe? Motion RC has a bunch I think also.
@@CapeCrawlers look like not a huge offer now, things will change probably because of this succesful model
Can you tell us your wheel and tire set up??
Sure! It’s the Injora black brass wheels and 64mm rock terrain tires.
@@CapeCrawlers thank you! Subscribed a bit ago. Appreciate it.
Where did you find that trailer?
Traxxas sells it as an accessory for these rigs. It comes with the hitch and everything 👍🏻
@@CapeCrawlers Amazing - my kid would love this accessory!
What beadlocks are those
Injora brass 1.0's
What motor do you have in the C10
It has the Reaper 66t from LGRP
@@CapeCrawlers Thank you for your quick reply. One more question if you don't mind. How is the speed of the TRX4M stock motor. Is it walking speed?
@@abcd123553 you’re welcome. The stock motor is pretty quick too. Yes, I would say about average walking speed, maybe a bit more.

@@CapeCrawlers thanks 👍✌️
@@CapeCrawlers Did you have to do anything special with those wheels? I’ve actually been considering them because I like the weight, but on the Injora website, it says: “To fully tighten the nuts, you can add spacers or use longer nuts.” Would you recommend these wheels? I want weight, but wow 47 grams each sounds like a lot, haha. Thanks for any feedback you can provide!
@@80SWoods I love the wheels! No issues with installing them. They went together like any other Injora beadlock. I would highly recommend them!
@@CapeCrawlers Thanks!! I should have asked this in my previous message, but do they do OK with the stock gearing because of the additional mass to turn? I did try crawler gears, but didn’t like them because it was SOOO slow and noisy so I went back to stock.
$39.99 for motor transmission combo's
I feel like that went up from when I ordered them. I didn’t spend over $100 for the two combos, the trailer, and the metal gears.
