  • Western media admits Ukraine is losing ground and suffering from growing manpower, arms, and ammunition shortages;
    After US-European pledges to increase artillery shell production, both have fallen far short of their targets and will be producing less ammunition in 2026 than Russia is producing now;
    Western policymakers promoting claims that robots, automation, and simplifying manufacturing can allow the West to match Russian and Chinese production are unrealistic;

    The other little issue that seems to be ignored when talking about the US' production woes is that for some reason they need to pursue their "defensive interests" right at the borders of the supposed aggressors. Even if the US upgrades their production capacities, they also need to move their new toys to a frontline on the other side of the planet. In the case of Russia, they're safe until they cross the Ukrainian border, but how would that work against China? I'm fairly sure the Russians will be very able and willing to help China with their knowledge about all kind of missiles to stop a threat moving through the Pacific.

    Politically I am an isolationist. The United States has no business being the world’s policeman. The current American foreign policy system is both economically and militarily unsustainable. The US is no longer the economic, military, and scientific powerhouse it was at the height of the Apollo Program in the late 1960s. Since the halcyon days of the 60s, the United States has been going steadily down hill. Unfortunately the US and China have become ensnared in classic Thucydides trap. Where on one hand one has an established power being confronted by a rising imperium. If one reviews the history of the past five hundred years, the resulting stresses between a legacy power and a rising challenger inevitably lead to war in three out of four cases. At this juncture in time, the chances of a great power war involving China and the US along with their respective allies looks increasingly inevitable. As Thucydides trenchantly observed, it was the fear endangered by the rise of Athens that led Sparta and Athens coming to blows. The resulting conflict proved devastating to both combatants. Likewise, the mutual fear and distrust between the US and China could result in history repeating itself! Unlike the conflict between Sparta and Athens however, a major war between China and the US has the potential to be civilizational ending due to the presence of nuclear weapons. If either side were faced with the prospect of catastrophic defeat, it is easy to imagine the losing side using nuclear weapons to avert catastrophe. The threat of nuclear use will prevent either combatant from fighting the war to a victorious conclusion. If the China and the US ever come to blows, the end result will likely result in a stalemate between both sides. In other words, the war will solve nothing because, unlike the Allied triumph over the Axis powers at the end of the Second World War, ultimate victory cannot be achieved in a nuclear world.

      I don't think Russia thought or planned for the war to last this long, It was a quick blitz designed to force the Ukrainians to the negotiating table. And it almost worked, until Boris Johnson and Brandon told the Ukrainians to fight on. Only then did it become a war of attrition. And even Russia had to gear up for that. Most of 2022 and early 2023 was spent on that. I think the Russians were surprised how much the West would supply the Ukrainians with and how hard the Ukrainian government managed to push anti-Russian xenophobia. Russia wasn't planning on hurting the Ukrainian civilian population. And even now still refrains from targeting them indiscriminately. Targeting the electricity network was probably a decision that Moscow did not want to make and only reluctantly did.

    • @colmcmillan173
      @colmcmillan173 2 месяца назад

      All this time, Putin did not want to harm the civilian Ukrainian population and waited for the start of negotiations, because he did not need the occupation of Ukraine at all. This is a heavy burden for Russia. It was only after the terrorist attacks on the Crimean bridge and Russian cities that Putin launched an infrastructure response.

    If the Ukrainian general staff had any sense they would withdraw their army behind the Dneiper. Although such a withdrawal would entail the abandonment of the Eastern Ukraine, it would enable the Ukrainians to create an operational reserve, while stretching Russian logistics. By defending every foot of the frontline the Ukrainians are dancing to the Russian tune. The Ukrainian army is slowly being ground up for no strategic purpose. Ukrainian resistance will inevitably collapse in the face of Russia’s aggressive attritional tactics. At this juncture in time, due to Russia’s massive superiority in artillery, firepower, and aviation, the Ukrainians have lost the ability to take the war to the Russians. The Ukrainian position on the battlefield is analogous to the situation of the Kaiser’s army during the closing stages of the Great War. Like the Kaiser’s army after the failure of their 1918 spring offensive, the Ukrainian army has been forced to combat multiple thrusts along different sectors of the frontline. They are being confronted by an enemy that is superior in every respect. Like the Kaiser’s army in the fall of 1918, because of the debilitating effects of attrition, the Ukrainian army has been forced by circumstances to concede the strategic and operational initiative to the enemy. Their strategy has become purely reactive. By trying to defend everything the Ukrainians are in essence defending nothing. If the war continues on its present course, Ukrainian collapse will be inevitable. The collapse of the Ukrainian army might take some time, but it will not take a long time.
