Have worked in british columbias finance ministry for close to four years as a tax policy analyst. Most finance ministers during my time were not economists. If you have a solid deputy minister/secretary, the department will be just fine

Please make a video on whether Pakistan should declare default in light of the following arguments: 1) Our interest payments on debt this year will be 9000 Billion Rs and are thus more than 50 percent of our federal budget. This is unsustainable because we don't have enough left for other segments. For comparison, this amount is almost double the entire provinicial budget of Punjab and around 4 times our defence budget. 2) In order to pay this massive debt interest, the masses are being forced to pay colossal taxes which is making the lives of everyone miserable We would also like to know what the actual impact of default will be. Will our debts be written off? Will be able to import necessities like petrol, medicines etc? What other consequences will there be for the country? Thank you so much!

this video literally gave me a perspective of what's wrong with out economy and how we have been consistent in failing this nation and its core interests in budget. However, the point where you said that the job requirement is way above their pay scale, I do not agree with that. I mean yes the job is very intense and has huge impact on the future of the country but the people who are joining the Govt. must have the interest in making this country better place. It has nothin to do with job description to salary ratio. Its matter of intent. It's job to save nation, not a business to make profit and build empires out of it.
the first step should be to pass the law that technical ministries should have facility to nominate non elected member, for finance it should be must that an economist can only be the finance minister and minimum 3 years he should stay.

Thanks for giving us this history. I'm not sure you can blame it on these individuals. the problem is the politicians and the military. Even a high schooler knows what needs to be done, we have huge state subsidies to unproductive industries, the tax base is too narrow, vast parts of the economy are undocumented. The problem is nobody wants to do anything unpopular, because we have a dual leadership between the military and the politicians. Each with very narrow interests just to preserve the system and milk it for whatever they can get.
